@00RSZEX Don't know if you still have the problem but try a liquid based bait with a citrus flavor. That seems to work well since roof rats like citrus.
Glue traps zre best. $7 at lowes etc. Best ones are the black ones with yellow sticky inside. Make sure they are yellow. Todays tip Walmart. Under $3. Dont buy one. Buy 8. If in attic you can catch them if you remove insulation above firdowns where cabinet hang. They love the crawl spaces like that. Youve got to be willing Nd able to do this often. 2 to 3 times a week. Closw up all holes in house. Get 2 or 3 stray cats and feed them outside. They will protect your exterior.
Isn't the sticky paper a brutal way to end their lives? Do they suffer? I'm guessing that poison is a worse way any info on that would be wonderful ty 😊
I've been trying to get rid of them for about 7 months. We've had a professional exterminator working with us. We've used snap traps and caught a few, sealed every possible entry point we can think of, and are now using bait. I live in a 2 story house with about a foot of crawl space between the levels, and no access to this space. The rats are in the walls in several rooms of the house. Thankfully they haven't yet made their way into our living areas. I have bunnies, so I'm hesitant to do the electronic devices. The bait box is in the attic where my dogs can't get to it and we are using a bait that is safer for second hand digestion in case one of our dogs, or any other outdoor animal might get it. But I don't like the thought of not being able to remove a dead rat if it dies in the walls or somewhere inaccessible to humans. I live in Arizona, eventually they will start to smell or attract bugs. No thank you. I hear them chewing all the time at night. I have no way of knowing yet what kind of damage they're doing.
Yea, i live in Sacramento California and I pretty much e this issue. I got them out of my garage and now they are in my attic right over my room which the exterminator can not reach. Very frustrating since I can hear them destroying stuff up there. I live in the middle townhouse and my neighbors are saying they don't have them. Update My third month dealing with this. My HOA won't help even though they maintenance the roof and this is where they keep getting in. Anyone reading this and are trying to avoid this, please seal all entry points prior to them getting in because i have sealed entries, used traps and bait stations and poison yet they continue to make entry in my house by creating new entry points. I have spent over 2000 to address this issues and I live in a small townhome. Please prevent if you can
Set up security camera and try different baits. Roof rats in general prefer veggies and fruits. I caught a few with bacon using snap traps but after the 3rd kill, they avoided it. I place bits of bacons, crackers, peanut butter, chocolate and almonds on the ground and the security cameras revealed that they show zero interest in them. It was really discouraging. Then one day I tried a piece of raw carrots and it went for it within a few minutes of leaving it there. I caught the elusive rat after a month of trying 4 days later. I see that there is another rat but this one doesn't seem to care for carrots. I will keep experimenting until I find a bait that this new rat can't resist. I caught the rat using one of the spring loaded live rat trap. They work great.
Been fighting a war for about seven months. I tried all the suggestions on the videos. Didn’t work!!! Comment section helped me tremendously. This is what is working for me until I can get the holes covered. First strobe lights in my attic have been a GOD send. Rats hate it. They don’t come every night like they used to. I can sleep. Tip- the professional lights are very costly. I used Halloween house strobe lights on sale after Halloween. Just the intermittent light not the ghost images. Second for rats in the wall. Interrupted their sleep by blasting loud music wherever I hear them. Very loud!!! They put my Bluetooth speaker right at the place where I hear them. They run it drives them crazy to have constant loud noise in their ears. Thank you US military!!! And last I am making dinner for them by preparing dry flake potatoes and plaster of Paris. Sometime baking powder and baking soda. JUST HAD TO SHARE because like many I was about to go crazy listening to them destroy my house. Hope this helps someone.
@@roybell9506 they are driving me nuts as well I've done a lot of these things except find a entry point in roof I live in a small trailer in woods I've lived here 7 years and have had them one out of the 7 I'm going to keep all these ideas and try them all as needed. Ty very much for everyone's input 🙏🤗
Wrong!!! Do NOT seal rats/mice inside your roof. First, throw moth balls around inside your roof and in any holes they've chewed through walls, etc. (Note: Don't expose moth balls to the interior environment.) This completely repels them. Once they're gone (no more noise from them for several days), THEN seal up all openings more than a quarter of an inch to your house so no more rats/mice can enter. This is the absolute cheapest and best way to get rid of rats and mice.
Sounds great ! I have a flat roof, I live in South Florida, so I cannot get the moth balls in very far. I can see where they get in as there is a 24' long stretch of an area where the main roof hangs over the lower smaller roof and there is approx. a foot between the upper and lower roof, so I can see where they crawl in from the lower and thru the 4 inch wire mesh that runs the whole 24 feet under the eaves at that point where the two roofs overlap. Any further tips bearing all this in mind and greatly appreciated. Btw .... one room in my house has no electric at the outlets or the ceiling light .... my guess is they ate through one or many of those wires. I plan to just close up the wire mesh strip with something solid like a series of boards ( although it will be very hard to nail them in place with the tight area of one foot under the overhang. Again, open to any idea and tips.
You can blow the moth balls into the narrow places with a piece of half inch round tubing about three or four feet long. Be sure not to touch them with your mouth. Or, you can shoot them with a sling shot.
It’s illegal to use moth balls outdoors and very environmentally destructive. They poison the soil, the ground water and kill all kinds of wildlife. The chemicals in them are cancer causing also.
Try Evictor Strobe Lights. After an installation, Roof Rats, Norway Rats, Possums, Skunks, Gray Squirrels, Flying Squirrels, Bobcats and Raccoons leave the attic within 3 days, taking babies with them. Each Evictor Strobe Light has 175,000 Candlepower.

They live in the San Francisco area. They may be slightly different than these Arizona ones, I don't know. My friend had them very bad because she had a very large orange tree right next to her garage.
A guy a few comments down said they just chew through the stucco. That cause hes got that fake stucco. They apply sterafoam to the wall and smooth concrete type mix over it. Not like they used to do it. Real stucco has a thick wire mesh that is applied first then they slurry over it instead of a foam like what you get when you buy a product like maybe a TV in a box. The white foam around the TV. Fast ans cheap like builders like it. Worthless birds peck out a home in your house, rats chew through, hail storm damage etc.
Never had this problem with 4 stray cats around i would feed once a day. The wisdom of my wife, come home and she took them off. So she has traded 4 cats for who knows how may rats.bait doesnt work, conventional traps dont work . Ive caught 1 with 14 traps none with electric trap. They dont eat peanut butter either.............. smoke
Heard there not in ky something big is running across my ceiling and chewed a hole where it can access my pantry it's not a mouse its bigger I can assure you
Thank you this hopefully will help me and my rat problem I started having about a year now fingers crossed 🙏😔

No, the fall of the Roman Empire began the dark ages.
And the falling of Rome started when one rat and three turtles mutated and became ninjas!
FWIW, Dont buy a rat zapper. Not powerful enough...for NW rats..Been there, done that. Old school snap traps are best.
