Farag is just such a class act, you cannot help but be happy for him. Always brilliantly behaved on court, gracious in defeat and victory. Always hear from people working around tournaments that he is super polite to absolutely everyone. Fantastic role model.
Utmost respect to Mo. He played Ramy in World Cship 2012, which was one of the greatest matches. A decade later, he's playing in the finals. Imagine the battering his body has gone through. Truly a legend. As for Farag, he's a true champion on n off court... Congratulations to both of them!!!
Mohammed has had a pretty decent tournament tbf. Last couple of months he’s been off the mark so fair play to him for getting to the finals. Hopefully can carry this form into the next couple !
I think it was even better than that. Without the cramp, he could have won! And I honestly think that today's game is being played at a higher level than ever before.
my favourate player won farag is such a great guy, elshorbagy still at the top of squash world though, great to see him back there he is a legend of the game but farag was better in the match
Three overall thoughts from this championship/final: (i) What Ali has done and achieved has been fantastic for the game of squash. A true ambassador fo the sports, always smiling, being humble/modest. He really is the face of squash in my eyes. And to join the 3 championship club with Nick Matthews and Ramy Ashour is a fantastic achievement, to be in with these giants. (ii) Secondly it is amazing to see MES back, and close to his best. Being and training with Gaultier will definitely help him, and seeing him play the way he did for the last few weeks, reminded me much of his domination period between 2017-2020. Great to have him back. (iii) Finally, and most importantly what a PSA World championship this was. 5 set thriller in the final and the semi finals, combined with the 4 best IMO in the semis too. If squash remains like this for the next few years we are in for a real treat. Thanks again for all the commentary and staff who put together a great show.
Chills watching this. Love both these great champions. But above all happy to see El Shorbagy competing at the very highest level again. He's the strongest mind in the tour and he has more championships ahead of him.
Nice compliments by Ali to Mo...! A true gent......something that Asal will never be or understand, just so glad Asal didn't get to the final in the end! Great tournament, great matches, great Champion!!
I’m not an Asal fan but damn he’s living rent free in y’all’s heads. He’s not even in this match and the comments are still filled with stuff about him. Give it a rest and enjoy this squash
Lol, totally agree! I think we all know what the general mindset toward Asal is, yet people have to comment about it every single time. Almost developing into more of a stigma than what is necessary.
Amazing final! I don't think anyone would have called Shorbagy making the final, and despite his antics against Coll he really put on some quality squash for us. But as ever, Farag just had that little bit extra in the tank, and deservedly takes the crown!
@@mikemcsherry1120 You are right and wrong. I think he's an exceptional player and have adapted my game towards his style but he is extremely immature sadly. He uses the wrong tactics to win. If he would calm down and just play normally he'll still end up world no. 1 within a year or two.
What a match, Elshorbagy gave it all he had and that's about as much as one can be expected to do. Too bad the bad behavior of Asal steal so much focus from the good players. But hopefully there will be a long suspension very soon. Asal makes even soccer players apperar as true sportsmen.
Sensational match, set up in large part because of Elshorbagy's obvious hunger. Long may that hunger continue, but in the meantime, congrats to fantastic Farag!
Farag on Fire! I knew from the very get go Ali would be bringing it home. So happy the Egyptians go to the final rounds. Elshorbagy a class act as well.
Bit of a funny final, even though it was 3-2, it felt like Farag wasn't trying that hard until the last game! Loved that it was free flowing though, and some great winners. My favourite match of the tournament was Momen vs Coll. What do others think?
Robert Owen may have been right. Elshorbagy may be past his best physically notwithstanding the great career he had. In a long match he’s not as likely to win as are Coll and Farag. Delighted to see Farag win. A class act in every respect.
@@uglymandarronson9838 No doubt he did, yes. But he’s in decline. He fell over the line against Coll. He blocked and impeded him on significant points. He’s not the player he was. Out on his feet in the fifth against Farag.
Momen was the biggest factor in El Shorbagys Semi Final Win, and Coll was the biggest factor in Farags final win IMO. People say professional sports people should be able to fight through, but Squash is a wickedly physical sport and there are limits to the human tolerance. I am super glad Farag won after both Shorbagy's behaviour on court and post win interview against Coll. Our men's game needs a shake up, too many 'personalities' which create a negative environment.
@@cookesam6 I mean I didn't agree with his coach making those comments, I felt they came across as arrogant, but calling him out after the match like that, it's just awful conduct. ElShorbagy maybe only has a couple of years left of top level squash, is this really how he wants to set an example to the younger players?
@@cookesam6 If you read the Rob Owen interview on the PSA website you will see why Shorbagy decided to shove his victory over Coll in Rob's face. Shorbagy's comments were aimed at Owen not at Coll. To quote what Owen said about Shorbagy "In terms of Mohamed [ElShorbagy], he could come out and have a brilliant day, but I don’t see it. To win a World Championship you are going to need to win four matches in a row and the way he is playing I don’t see him doing that as I just feel his level has dropped. Mohamed has made some mistakes in the last couple of years in terms of where he has gone and I think his movement has deteriorated. Personally, I think he has put too much emphasis on getting fitter rather than working on his technique and strategy while also making his movement smoother like I did with Paul." If I was Shorbagy and had just proven this arrogant buffoon wrong by defeating his prized player I would have also gleefully rubbed it in his face.
I thought either of those strokes against Farag could have been lets (thought he had room to swing but only could have hit a volley boast). In any case I'm glad Shorbagy lost after that tirade against Coll's coach after the semi, the latter may have crossed the line but Shorbagy didn't need to keep coming back to it so passively-aggressively. Does anyone know what part of the body Shorbagy had a cramp in (and if it went away)? Seems like he would have had to play practically the whole fifth game that way.
An available volley boast doesn't affect the stroke/let decision. He needs to have access to front wall wide enough to hit a cross court. They were a bit close, but good stroke calls.
You could see that Mo came out into this tournament super explosive, like his younger years. I think it's evident that there's many people that can maintain that power throughout as you get older (Rodriguez seems to be an exception).
I cant say how much happy i am Bcoz First Ali won ( the humble legend of our sport) Second Mo and Asal didn't. I still cant belive how Mo spoke after yesterday's match . So arrogant . Hope he reconsider for that kind of behavior... about Asal . Rather not to say a single word !
Poor stroke call at the end of the 4th in my opinion. With the ball almost past him already and Elshorbagy out of the way of Farag's swing, there was no way Farag had an angle to hit Elshorbagy if he'd hit the ball. Great match, though.
Farag is my champion. Gracious in victory and defeat, he plays hard but fair. I think Mohamed ran out of steam and the body just couldn't cope in the end. He is making a come back though.
Great game as expected but the stroke at 8-10 in second is no stroke. Ali doesn ´t reach the ball. That had most likely changed the outcome of the game.
So glad Ali took it out, the most deserving. Mo played like an asshole in the semi continually playing the man instead of the ball fishing for strokes. If you have to play like that to win then you are past your best and that little rant at the end lost any respect for him just added to the ever growing pile of Egyptian players that have terrible attitudes to match their terrible crowds. Change of venue for world champs they don't deserve such a tournament.
So Paul Coll can't shout after a point but Ali Farag can? I'm happy Elshorbagy lost as that behavior was no example for all the kids in the audience, or for the sport in general.
@@topddingle6881 , looking at the video (ua-cam.com/video/E3LP6ZwP-cE/v-deo.html) Coll is shouting at Elshorbagy's back at best. Mohamed does turn around mid-scream, but Coll even looks away to avoid confrontation.

Oh Man. I don't know whether Elshorbagy gained weight by consuming too many calories or purposefully by lifting weights. In both cases, it didn't prove to be a good move. He got fatigued because of it. Too much lactic acid buildup in his newly grown quads. He looked beefy. I would suggest a change in his training breakdown. Focus more on endurance. Massive respect shown by Farag to the GOAT.
Asal can learn grace, humility and class from a World Champion.
To be fair, we could all learn from him. With the possible exception of Wilstrop
Why the hate on Asal ? Leave it alone son he wasn’t playing today.
Regarding his behaviour, Asal might better benefit from punishment. Ali Farag is someone I have the highest respect for.
Actually I think Farag has learnt some antics from M.A.. And MES is not the GOAT imo
