Wow thankyou so much for saying this!!!There is still such a massive misconception that its somehow wrong to care about how you look, and that you should just learn to live with it. Its as if its Ok to fix physical pain, but that ageing is not a 'bad enough' thing to get depressed about. People refuse to see just how much mental trauma ageing and appearance can cause. Ageing can make people suicidal, but no one ever talks about it because they just get called vain and shallow for caring about how they look. They just tell you to get therapy because you must somehow have some 'inner' confidence issues-they suggest ANY fix except the one that actually works.

@@fatgirl5651 Yeah I agree- I dont mean that you shouldnt get things fixed because of physical pain, but that the mental pain caused by someone disliking their appearance is often dismissed as unimportant. But if it causes severe emotional distress and mental health problems then its important too, as this surgeon is pointing out

@@fatgirl5651 You first go to your local doctor and discuss things and they will then refer you to a hospital-there are many which will do it but it has to go through your local doctor

How can you tell the difference between "mental pain" and mental disorder? Is it not possible that people are generally more depressed today and they seek plastic surgery as a remedy? Would you say the same about alcohol as a way to medicate against the emotional pains of life? Also, ageing is going to happen no matter what. Isn'the best approach to accept the inevitable and move on instead of trying to run away from age (as though you could)?

@@treesap2 Well true, you cant stop ageing, but you can mitigate it's effects. I think the argument that it's inevitable doesnt mean we should simply put up with it. Should we then just accept dementia and all the other ill health associated with ageing simply because 'ageing is inevitable'? Ageing doesnt affect everyone equally-many age gracefully but some dont and it really gets them down, so if people feel better by getting plastic surgery shouldn't they be allowed to do so? Just because someone thinks someone shouldnt feel a certain way about something doesnt mean they will. Everyone should be free to pursue their own route to happiness, not the route that others think they should take. To deny them this would be cruel indeed. There are so many studies that show a huge improvement in peoples mental health and quality of life after getting plastic surgery. Society doesn't want to face this uncomfortable truth, but there it is.

I just love how society judges people for not looking good, then mocks them for wanting to do something about it. Hypocrisy at its finest!
