I feel so lucky I got “Brian Wilson Presents Smile” and the “Smile Sessions” fairly early in my life. Brian Wilson blows my mind. Also, I love your profile picture.
I'm 35 and only discovered Brian Wilson's genius early last year. I heard Good Vibrations from a Live 8 video. I was shocked, I never really listened to the Beach Boys I just thought their music was simple pop hits but this song blew my mind with it's complexity, addictiveness and the picture it draws in my head. I've been listening to Smile Sessions for 14 months and still my mind is blown every single time. It's crazy that he's still alive with us today and it's sad that he is not as worshiped/credited as much as he should be for being one of the greatest musical artists of all time.
He made the movie. David Leaf is one of Brian's most loyal helpers, a big part in making SMiLE happen. But yeah, seems like when people are in Brian's circle for a while, they always start to treat him a bit like that
For my money, SMiLE is the pinnacle of artistic achievement in the rock era. And Beautiful Dreamer is one of the greatest docs of the era.
I wholeheartedly agree Lynn!
good interview. Hard to believe 20 years have passed so quickly.

Thanks so much. We love the Muppets here!

The puzzling aspects of SMiLE are an important part of it. We can learn things from them.
Interviewer is incredibly condescending. BW interviews always feel exploitative to me.

David is just sensitive to Brian. And he focuses on the music which is as it should be.
