  • There are a million trillion uploads of the great Georgian dancer Vakhtang Chabukiani partnering Natalia Dudinskaya in part of 'The Kingdom of the Shades' from 'La Bayadere’ - and my only excuse for another is that this 1940s footage clearest I've ever seen.
As everyone will know, the ballet was choreographed initially by Marius Petipa to music by Ludwig Minkus. It was originally staged in four acts and seven tableaux, with its premier being at the Imperial Bolshoi Kamenny Theatre in St. Petersburg on the 4th February 1877.
    Enjoy!

VERAMENTE MOLTO BRAVI.BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO

Thanks again for another treasure, John Hall. Amazing to see these two. He is beyond words - an artist beyond compare, and she is technically incredible -- a quintuple pirouette? - wow - and in those long ago days when the pointe shoes were totally less than supportive, almost like dancing barefoot. Many, many thanks.

and it's some of the best footage i've seen of this performance - so wonderfully clear.
i agree - "those long ago days when the pointe shoes were totally less than supportive" make todays shoes look so blockish and unattractive especially so when the ballerina is not on pointe.
speaking of 'a quintuple pirouette' i saw Nina Kaptsova executes some pretty extraordinary turns here just yesterday:

The composer Alexi Machavariani (from the old noble Georgian family) was the Georgian composer, who was born and died in Georgia (Republic of). He was often invited to the Russian Opera, the Russian Soviet Music events and on. One of his famous ballet compositions was Otello and it was perfomanced in in Bolshoi Theater in times of USSR. It was a masterpiece and also the ballet dancer who performed Otello, was a legendary Georgian dancer Vakhtang Chabukiani, you can see him righ now (and also can click in You-tube his name to enjoy of his incomparable Otello in the ballet world). The dancer created such a great speed of dance that neither Russian Soviet nor European dancers could run over this master class performance. So after his death none could take the step in such dance speed, and because of it Otello, composed by the great Georgian composer Alexi MACHAVARIANI is not is on ballet list anymore. Another modern young great Georgian ballet dancer Nika(Nikolai) Tsiskaridze which also was invited to dance in Moscow Bolshoi Theater, approached to this Otello, but in some circumstances it didn’t work…

NOW, YOU CRETINO, I GENERAL LINGUISTICS IT'S CALLED 'FONETIC COINCIDENCE' - 'ANI' IN THIS CASE, I.E. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ITALIAN, BUT IT'S FONWTIC COINCIDE WITH 'ANI' NOT 'IAN' !!!
