I am a classically trained singer and love Diana Ankudinova's story. She was born in Arsenyev, Russia on May 31, 2003 which is near the Pacific Ocean, the border with China & the border with Inner Mongolia. Her mother is Russian and her father is unknown but, probably Mongolian. Her extended family found her in the street in the middle of winter with a broken collar bone when she was three (3) years old. None of them wanted her because they thought she was mentally defective. She spent two (2) years in a Russian Orphanage and was adopted by a Russian woman named Irina when she was five (5) years of age. Because her language was very poor, her Foster Mother sent her to a voice coach and, it was there they discovered her musical talent. She has been singing publicly and taking voice lessons from the age of five (5) and has become a "Stage Animal". (This means she is totally at home on the stage and feels free to act out each song she sings) In the twelve (12) years Irina has had her, Diana has blossomed into a beautiful young woman, with a voice like no other and sings in French, English, Spanish, Russian and yodels. Let me become a little technical and teach you why her voice is so "heave" and "unique". When anyone sings, they produce more than the sound of their voice. They also produce "wave forms" which, you can not hear but, they add to the "Timbre" of their voice. Diana has the gift of drawing "wave forms" from all of her registers simultaneously and this creates a "heavy" timbre which is mesmerizing and, gives one chills and draws you in.

She sings many genres including pop, 'Vibes'. No end to her abilities. Her back story is awful and tragic with her natural mother trying to kill her and treating her brutally. He started this show You Are Super and paid for an apartment in Moscow for Diana and her adoptive family after she finished on the show (She was on the show for 2 seasons) and he came out of semi-retirement to compose several songs for Dimash. I fully agree with you - I think I have seen most of what she has done - from the age of 5 upwards, from working in Shopping centres, cruise ships, small coffe-shop type venues , competitions and grand stages (including the Kremlin) and she always makes the "stage" her own and, for me the epitome of what you were saying is when she sang the song Blizzard (Вьюга) on the show you are super - I, as a grown and very old (comparatively) man was close to tears because of the raw emotion that she causes to emanate from her whole being. This song is a terrible ear-worm. After hearing it you'll find yourself suddenly bursting out with "Tomorrow is a lie!" at full tilt, in a vaguely Russian accent all through your day. Or maybe that's just me? Goddamn, she's a fine, fine singer!

Yes he is a famous composer - Igor Krutoi - and yes works with Dimash :) :) (and Lara Fabian too :) Thanks for another great reaction :) Diana is a true contralto....the lowest possible female voice (the male equivalent is a Baritone). Contraltos' are few and far between. Possibly the most famous Contralto in the pop world is the fantastic Cher :) Hugs from Norway :)

I agree with your comment about song choices. From the online question and answer sessions I have seen with her I get the impression she likes theater and may even pursue that as a career choice. But for now with her commitment to her education she is leaving everything open for now. I can only imagine there is some pressure to release more songs similar to other artists cranking out one after the other. Im good to with her taking her time. Ive been a fan for a few years and being in the USA I find enough I can get translated to follow her. I have found her on Pandora here in the USA with her song Vibes which she did with American producer Adam Ferello. Now thats a really different style dance club/ pop type song.

But she got her revenge the following year and year thereafter by winning not only the Russian contests in two consecutive years but 60 more awards and contests. I agree with your comment about song choices. From the online question and answer sessions I have seen with her I get the impression she likes theater and may even pursue that as a career choice. But for now with her commitment to her education she is leaving everything open for now. I can only imagine there is some pressure to release more songs similar to other artists cranking out one after the other. Im good to with her taking her time. Ive been a fan for a few years and being in the USA I find enough I can get translated to follow her. I have found her on Pandora here in the USA with her song Vibes which she did with American producer Adam Ferello. Now thats a really different style dance club/ pop type song.
The pianist was one of the judges on the Russian tv show called You Are Super! You have seen him on quite a few of her performances! His name I believe is Igor??? He is famous in Russia, and many places around the world! Great pianist!

Since moving to Moscow she has been working with a great vocal coach and working on her upper register and her vocal range. Strange - I have read and listened (in both English and Russian) to articles and documentaries and you are the first person who has called this phenomenon "mixed race" and I ask myself was it necessary to include it? Her mother is Russian, the identity of the father is, as far as I know not been published. Russians see Diana as "Russian" and that should be enough.

But this turned out to be a BLATANT LIE and one of the worse scandals in Russian talent contest history. Because the following day it was revealed that the contest was “ fixed” the winner was “bought” before the show started. A total travesty of justice.
And the following days over 80 million who watched the contest when posted on UA-cam spit on the judges.
But she got her revenge the following year and year thereafter by winning not only the Russian contests in two consecutive years but 60 more awards and contests.
