Michael was always called “much more powerful” than Raphael, all the way back in Season 5. Also, Castiel with all of Purgatory’s souls felt it necessary to keep Michael and Lucifer’s Cage just after snapping Raphael away. That said, there is very inconsistent writing in this show.

Alternate Michael clearly couldn't create a portal to another world, he drained Lucifer's grace for a spell that did it. And it was said that Alternate Michael was more powerful than Main Universe Michael.

To my understanding Lucifer's cage was in its own separate dimension. Just like Amara's cage. However there was a cage in Hell that's linked to Lucifer's. Which was used to summon Lucifer. Otherwise, we would've seen Adam/ Michael in that episode when Cass said yes to being possessed.

Michael is powerful even with the handcuffs with a click of his fingers he opened a door way to purgatory, imagine at full power. To bad Supernatural never had the budget to truly make the fight between Archangels Earth shattering.
As much as I loved Supernatural, what Adam was put through was one of the big red marks in this show. Going years in the Cage, and being outright forgotten by his brothers. And when he finally gets out, frankly, we needed more than a five second apology from Sam and Dean. Adam deserved a whole scene where he let them have it for leaving him to Hell, and having only ever made maybe five seconds of effort to get him out.
Honestly I thought the writers should have either: 1)Gotten Adam out in season 6 and send him to heaven. 2)Make an Adam demon a season long villain where he gets revenge on the Winchesters.

Still in hell obviously, but I think we can all agree that they are still two different locations.

No. Purgatory isn't an alternate universe. It's an alternate dimension. Like Heaven and Hell and such. Each universe has its own Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and whatever other metaphysical plane of existence the OG Universe has. The only exception may and probably is the Empty.
Do you remember when lucifer removed his in the other dimension, or when he destroyed angels while still having the handcuffs on ? I think they are just a temporary solution and their power fades with time.
@Big Daddy Rikka The one thing I could think of is that when an angel crosses over into an alternate universe, their powers are diminished somehow. It even applies to specific wardings. The original angel cuffs designed by Bobby couldn't hold the OG universe's Lucifer but AU Michael couldn't really do shit with them on him. He was confident that they couldn't hold him forever but as far as he got them on screen, all he did was talk around and spout random shit. Same with the OG Michael. Those cuffs were designed by an AU warding and hence couldn't fully ward OG Michael. Of course all of this could be just my headcanon and could just be a continuity fuck up and just bad writing. I couldn't think of any other reason lol.

Something I just realized is that even if they get the stuff needed for the spell, they will still need someone to become the new holder of The Mark of Cain. You know, the seal that serves as a lock and key. Though I do wonder how this one will effect the holder sense it'll be Chuck who's being suppressed, and not Amara

did they retcon Castiel?Because when he was talking to Michael he kept on saying "Your father". Aren't they supposed to be brothers? Castiel has not shown any relationship to Chuck even at Season 10, and i don't understand why he is so weak now.
He also uses "your father" when he's talking to Michael because he feels so betrayed by God that he no longer sees him as his father. Also he's trying to provoke Michael.
The whole thing about all angels having a brotherly relationship and seeing God as their father from early seasons was dropped as the show went on and it became "the archangels only are brothers and God's children while the rest of the angels are merely creations (like humans) and they see themselves as servants of God only, not his children". It was so subtle and throughout so many seasons most people didn't even realize and don't recall what it was like on early seasons where Castiel and other angels called God "father" and he and Raphael acted and spoke like actual brothers opposing each other as opposed to later seasons where only the archangels have the family relationship among themselves and with God while the rest of the angels are nothing but soldiers.
Remember When Death had to create an eclipse and there was all sorts of other crap that the Winchesters had to gather together the open door to purgatory?
That was a ritual for opening a door to purgatory. Michael just opened a rift cause he doesnt need that ritual and he wants to help them. Death didnt want to get too much involved so he just made that eclipse for them to even have a chance.
The cuffs are purely there as protection. Say as to do anything evil or disappearing. Season 8 finally. The boys used the cuffs on Crowley. When he snapped his fingers to disappear he couldn't. Just like Michael. He used no powers against the boys nor did he vanish. He may have slammed cass's head on the table but that's about it
Now with Dean and Castiel in purgatory, but nobody to guard that door is asking some monsters to escape and cause trouble. Shame the AU is dead since I wanted to see some interactions between him and the main Michael.

This spell doesn't actually make sense. Purgatory was not created until God made the Leviathan which was after the War against The Darkness, so how did he get a Leviathan Blossom to bind the spell together?

This is a rift to purgatory not another universe, when Gabriel and Lucifer had to give up their grace they were traveling to another universe not just another place within their own universe. I’m sure it’s way easier just to go to purgatory rather than to leave ur own universe, js.
Raphael- I am an archangel, mighty beyond comprehension, and i am going to spend a full year with my powers not restrained in any way, trying to work a complicated spell to get into Purgatory Michael- and i am his big brother, i would have kicked the candy out of all participants during his war, I can open Purgatory with a snap of my fingers WHILE wearing angel cuffs. Dean is REALLY lucky that Michael never had any interest in killing him.
To be fair, Raphael spent the entire Season 6 thoroughly neutered by the writers. With a wave of his hand, he could have exploded Balthazar and at the very least smote 50,000 souls Castiel, if not exploded him outright. Not to mention the writers made Raphael so blind that he couldn’t tell Castiel’s jar was empty when Castiel flew in to gloat. Even *I* could see the jar was empty.

@@IlianaGuadalupe I had not thought about the two different spells before, but it absolutely makes a lot of sense. At least some of the seen power difference could be because Raphael was doing something more difficult I do have to disagree that it goes as far as all of them having equal power though. In main and alternate universe, Michael is pretty consistently stronger than Lucifer, but I look more at Gabriel. he has been the one we have seen go up against other archangels the most often, and every time he does, he gets his entire butt kicked. He's top 10 strongest beings, but we have not seen anything that makes me think he's not significantly weaker than at least Michael and Lucifer.
good point@@chevin0 . I think that AW Michael was stronger not because of strength but psychologically, which gave him the security he needed to control everything. He was the "god" to the people he haunted, the monsters he created, and the angels he controlled. The dude was IT and he knew it. Remember when he is digging into Lucifer's mind? He knows what scares him and he knows Michael is also in the cage, AW Michael knew he had no competition except Jack and that spear which were only a problem until he came to this world. Then, when he was inside Dean, a full revelation. His anger when he tells Cass "even God dies" is one of the best conversations I saw in this series.
Adam was trapped with Michael inside him, Sam was stuck with Lucifer. Cas barely made it out with Sam and we all know how that went. Michael was way stronger than Lucifer so I am not sure Cas could do anything for Adam at that point they were in the cage. They did try to rescue him before Michael possessed him, but Adam got shut in that one room and taken over. I agree what happened to Adam and his fate was f-cked up. But I don't think it was anyone's fault. Sam and Dean never really even got to know their real half brother, the first one was Ghoul in disguise. When the REAL Adam was alive he was basically brain washed and thought his brother's were bad guys essentially, or at least trying to stop the one thing the thought would reunite him with his Mom, which is sad. I am glad that in the end FINALLY there was some closure, and it seems Adam isn't suffering.

Bruh, there is nothing in purgatory that could possibly throw hands with Michael. Even all the leviathans together, going by what Archangels are capable of if they had a bigger budget, would just get nuked by Michael snapping his fingers. Matter of fact, all of purgatory was actually in Cas and he *still* didn't want any smoke with Michael and Lucifer.
only a wild theory but..Michael and Adam lack a ...family, the boys can't be, but we know a character who is still a baby in angel/god terms, even if his power is overwhelming. What if Michael will take care of his nephew and become a good teacher, trainer, and uncle? Castiel is more of a father, but ...I would wish Michael and Adam that happy ending. He knows much more than Castiel, can explain Jacks own powers to Jack better, and I think this Michael...would be different than the one before. Everything that God isn't in the series, Michael could fulfill, for Jack, for the world, he who can testify to everything, is broken, but a child can give you something that you've been missing..a purpose.

Well it was more than purgatory wasn't it? The portal is open yes but does every spell or snap give you souls? So basically the plan was to get souls from Purgatory with a spell-who knows if a snap by Raph could've opened it tho.Regardless he might be able to open it with a snap but he'll need spells to absorb souls.
Michael is the strongest, but he also has knowledge none of the other Archangels did, which may be how he knows how to create a rift between worlds. Also Adam is a near perfect match for Michael as a vessel, as opposed to Raphael's vessel which seemed to be imperfect. All in all, Michael is just better equipped to open portals.

Archangels can definitely kill Leviathans, they were God's first being, his first children, created from Primordial Creation itself as a tool to help defeat the Darkness. The only beings more powerful than Archangels are God, The Darkness, Arch-Nephilim (like Jack), Death and possibly the Empty
I have this feeling that the Empty will meet Cas & Dean in Purgatory & bring Jack & Billie along to help them escape from the Levis. Kinda like a "U owe me one, Cas. Don't think i forgot" type of thing 😆
I loved this episode but there were two small problems I had: 1. Why does trapping god involve a spell which requires the ingredients which didn't exist at the time. I mean they say its the same spell that god used on Amara but we are lead to believe that the conflict between god and Amara took place before the creation of the Leviathans who in turn proceded purgatory and thus a flower which grows in purgatory wouldn't have existed at the time. 2. How can Michel use his powers while wearing the cuffs but in the next instance is unable to free himself. When I saw him open the portal I assumed he had secretly broken out of them.

Misha was saying that Cas' ending might be bad which idk if that is a 100% true or not, but I'm starting to think it is because when Adam said 'when do we ever get what we don't deserve' THE FIRST PERSON THE CAMERA PANS TO IS CAS!!!! Like Cas made a deal so Jack wouldn't end up in the empty, but he ended up there anyway. If he's in the empty then the empty basically broke their deal by putting Jack in the empty. Cas was only promoted to seraph before because God liked him, but now I don't see any promotions happening because God hates him, heavens lack of angels, and because Cas said his powers are fading, meaning he will become human soon. About the smiting thing, Sam and Dean may have been assholes to him since season 4, but Cas has a good heart, he wouldn't do that.

And, Michael WHILE in those Archangel Handcuffs, snaps his fingers and BOOM!! 12 hour rift to another world/dimension. The fact that this all happened, and it was LITERALLY nothing while cuffed. A friend of mine and I agree that, the Archangels are ALREADY O-P as hell. But, Michael just… I mean, how much RAW power does he have to begin with…? 😳😳 Now, we’ve ALL at LEAST up to THIS point of the show, to sort of see how Powerful Jack is.. And, Lucifer used a NON-BLOODLINE vessel. Now imagine if it went a different way, and Michale fathered a Nephilim, WHILE wearing his SWORD. It’s power would be FAR greater than Jack’s own. Supernatural archangels are far from equals. It was established in Season 5 that Michael was much more powerful than Raphael and that Gabriel didn’t have a snowball’s chance of killing Lucifer in a fight. That, and Raphael could still control a storm in Holy Fire whereas Gabriel apparently couldn’t break the water pipes right above him.

To my understanding Lucifer's cage was in its own separate dimension. Just like Amara's cage. However there was a cage in Hell that's linked to Lucifer's. Which was used to summon Lucifer. Otherwise, we would've seen Adam/ Michael in that episode when Cass said yes to being possessed.

Michael is powerful even with the handcuffs with a click of his fingers he opened a door way to purgatory, imagine at full power. To bad Supernatural never had the budget to truly make the fight between Archangels Earth shattering.

As much as I loved Supernatural, what Adam was put through was one of the big red marks in this show. Going years in the Cage, and being outright forgotten by his brothers. And when he finally gets out, frankly, we needed more than a five second apology from Sam and Dean. Adam deserved a whole scene where he let them have it for leaving him to Hell, and having only ever made maybe five seconds of effort to get him out.
Honestly I thought the writers should have either:
1)Gotten Adam out in season 6 and send him to heaven.
2)Make an Adam demon a season long villain where he gets revenge on the Winchesters.

No. Purgatory isn't an alternate universe. It's an alternate dimension. Like Heaven and Hell and such. Each universe has its own Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and whatever other metaphysical plane of existence the OG Universe has. The only exception may and probably is the Empty.

@Big Daddy Rikka The one thing I could think of is that when an angel crosses over into an alternate universe, their powers are diminished somehow. It even applies to specific wardings. The original angel cuffs designed by Bobby couldn't hold the OG universe's Lucifer but AU Michael couldn't really do shit with them on him. He was confident that they couldn't hold him forever but as far as he got them on screen, all he did was talk around and spout random shit. Same with the OG Michael. Those cuffs were designed by an AU warding and hence couldn't fully ward OG Michael. Of course all of this could be just my headcanon and could just be a continuity fuck up and just bad writing. I couldn't think of any other reason lol.

The whole thing about all angels having a brotherly relationship and seeing God as their father from early seasons was dropped as the show went on and it became "the archangels only are brothers and God's children while the rest of the angels are merely creations (like humans) and they see themselves as servants of God only, not his children". It was so subtle and throughout so many seasons most people didn't even realize and don't recall what it was like on early seasons where Castiel and other angels called God "father" and he and Raphael acted and spoke like actual brothers opposing each other as opposed to later seasons where only the archangels have the family relationship among themselves and with God while the rest of the angels are nothing but soldiers.
Remember When Death had to create an eclipse and there was all sorts of other crap that the Winchesters had to gather together the open door to purgatory?
That was a ritual for opening a door to purgatory. Michael just opened a rift cause he doesnt need that ritual and he wants to help them. Death didnt want to get too much involved so he just made that eclipse for them to even have a chance.

To be fair, Raphael spent the entire Season 6 thoroughly neutered by the writers. With a wave of his hand, he could have exploded Balthazar and at the very least smote 50,000 souls Castiel, if not exploded him outright.
Not to mention the writers made Raphael so blind that he couldn’t tell Castiel’s jar was empty when Castiel flew in to gloat. Even *I* could see the jar was empty.

I do have to disagree that it goes as far as all of them having equal power though. In main and alternate universe, Michael is pretty consistently stronger than Lucifer, but I look more at Gabriel. he has been the one we have seen go up against other archangels the most often, and every time he does, he gets his entire butt kicked. He's top 10 strongest beings, but we have not seen anything that makes me think he's not significantly weaker than at least Michael and Lucifer.

He was the "god" to the people he haunted, the monsters he created, and the angels he controlled. The dude was IT and he knew it. Remember when he is digging into Lucifer's mind? He knows what scares him and he knows Michael is also in the cage, AW Michael knew he had no competition except Jack and that spear which were only a problem until he came to this world. Then, when he was inside Dean, a full revelation. His anger when he tells Cass "even God dies" is one of the best conversations I saw in this series.

Adam was trapped with Michael inside him, Sam was stuck with Lucifer. Cas barely made it out with Sam and we all know how that went. Michael was way stronger than Lucifer so I am not sure Cas could do anything for Adam at that point they were in the cage. They did try to rescue him before Michael possessed him, but Adam got shut in that one room and taken over. I agree what happened to Adam and his fate was f-cked up. But I don't think it was anyone's fault. Sam and Dean never really even got to know their real half brother, the first one was Ghoul in disguise. When the REAL Adam was alive he was basically brain washed and thought his brother's were bad guys essentially, or at least trying to stop the one thing the thought would reunite him with his Mom, which is sad. I am glad that in the end FINALLY there was some closure, and it seems Adam isn't suffering.

Michael is the strongest, but he also has knowledge none of the other Archangels did, which may be how he knows how to create a rift between worlds. Also Adam is a near perfect match for Michael as a vessel, as opposed to Raphael's vessel which seemed to be imperfect. All in all, Michael is just better equipped to open portals.

I feel like I missed this episode but I didn't-
I loved this episode but there were two small problems I had:
1. Why does trapping god involve a spell which requires the ingredients which didn't exist at the time. I mean they say its the same spell that god used on Amara but we are lead to believe that the conflict between god and Amara took place before the creation of the Leviathans who in turn proceded purgatory and thus a flower which grows in purgatory wouldn't have existed at the time.
2. How can Michel use his powers while wearing the cuffs but in the next instance is unable to free himself. When I saw him open the portal I assumed he had secretly broken out of them.

Like Cas made a deal so Jack wouldn't end up in the empty, but he ended up there anyway. If he's in the empty then the empty basically broke their deal by putting Jack in the empty. But then again I think the empty will still end up putting Cas there anyway because he LITERALLY attacked heaven for Jack. You're right, it doesn't mess around. Yeah, uh I hope this made sense haha..
@believe dudududu What makes you think that? That'd be impossible since God hates the Winchester's, so I'm sure Cas is included in that. Cas was only promoted to seraph before because God liked him, but now I don't see any promotions happening because God hates him, heavens lack of angels, and because Cas said his powers are fading, meaning he will become human soon. About the smiting thing, Sam and Dean may have been assholes to him since season 4, but Cas has a good heart, he wouldn't do that.

And, Michael WHILE in those Archangel Handcuffs, snaps his fingers and BOOM!! 12 hour rift to another world/dimension. The fact that this all happened, and it was LITERALLY nothing while cuffed. A friend of mine and I agree that, the Archangels are ALREADY O-P as hell. But, Michael just… I mean, how much RAW power does he have to begin with…? 😳😳 Now, we’ve ALL at LEAST up to THIS point of the show, to sort of see how Powerful Jack is.. And, Lucifer used a NON-BLOODLINE vessel. Now imagine if it went a different way, and Michale fathered a Nephilim, WHILE wearing his SWORD. It’s power would be FAR greater than Jack’s own. Not trying to argue by ANY means, I’m simply sharing something I thought about, as a THEORY. But, that Nephilim would mop a couple floors with Jack. Like I said. Why compare Raphael and Michael? My theory is that all archangels had the same strenghth. The spell Raphael and Crowley practiced was not to open purgatory but to call all creatures from purgatory to come out, very different than just opening a portal.

Supernatural archangels are far from equals. It was established in Season 5 that Michael was much more powerful than Raphael and that Gabriel didn’t have a snowball’s chance of killing Lucifer in a fight. That, and Raphael could still control a storm in Holy Fire whereas Gabriel apparently couldn’t break the water pipes right above him.
