My son called, so frustrated, 4 out of 12 staff showed up to work. They were busting their asses off and they got a "Karen". Karen complained that the burger was raw. Son explained that it was cooked, the red color was because she had ordered a veggie burger. Karen keeps shouting about raw meat and food poisoning. Son goes **veggie**. Karen demands to speak to the manager. That's my son. It took over one hour, and the Karen threatened with calling everyone but the king. She refused to get a new burger, she wanted her burger done correctly. Son explained that the burger would still be red and Karen threw a toddler tantrum. In the end, they had to call security and have her removed. I have to say he has the patience of an angel. I would have thrown her out on her ass ten minutes into the argument.

i had an interesting moment at a long john silver's, once.
first, after making our orders, we had to pull to the side so they could continue taking orders to keep the line moving, and someone would bring the orders out to the cars.
so, this group of kids who ordered ahead of me ended up being approached by someone bringing my food, and instead of being honest, they lied and took my order, cause i ordered a larger, more expensive meal than they did.
once the workers found out, they apologized to me, brought me a new meal free of charge, on top of giving me those kids' food that they ordered, and a coupon for a discount.
funniest part about this... the girl who took my order was just getting off of work, and the kids who stole my meal were her friends, which she got into the car with... so she got fired, cause she was the one behind it all.

Just to play devil's advocate.. I used to have a job that used a point system. 1/4 of a point for every 30 minutes late. 2 hours late, you might as well not come in at all because you were getting the full point anyway. Could've been something like that. 🤷‍♂️
Still shouldn't have been a dick about it, but that could explain why he was free to hang around for an hour after complaining that he was late.

I have to side with KFC employees on the first one. I worked there pre-covid and pre-online ordering and we constantly had trouble because our hours and menu were different from what corporate listed on their website, so people wouldnt even glance at the hours on the door or drive thru board. The franchise owners set the hours and a lot of the policies/menu items, and we couldnt do anything about it. Customers would bang on the doors or even call the store to threaten us or throw a fit. Because we were on a busy street and near a bad area, the glass in the entry way was thick to block noise/attempted intruders, so you absolutely couldnt talk to anyone through it, so we had to open the door just to turn them away.
it took repeated calls to corporate, large refunds, and comped items for them to change to google profile for the store, but i dont think the official website had ever been changed in terms of hours or promotional items.
It wouldnt surprise me if the franchise owner and corporate tech werent in contact at that KFC. I cant imagine the sort of trouble online ordering might have caused for the employees. They were being super nice to him. My former store would have told him to call corporate the next day if he didnt want a digital/cash refund and let him sit outside kicking n screaming.

I've paitently waited 20 min for chilli cheese tots (I was the only one there but I was also high so I couldn't be bothered) and 40 min for an (admittedly large) order at McDonald's each time without me having to ask I got free stuff because I didn't make a fuss. I had a nice conversation and networked with the mom of a fellow healthcare worker/culinary grad from my institute the one time and I chilled and watch videos on my phone the other time, both of which are exactly what I would be doing if I wasn't waiting
The closest I come to being even remotely curt to employees is when I ask nicely when I'm ordering if they can expedite our order because we're in the ambulance and could get a call any second, and they do because we're polite and first responders, I genuinely don't get people that are rude .

My worst drive thru experience was at a Taco Bell (don't judge me I love the greasy cheesy unhealthy deliciousness). It was in a pretty busy plaza with lots of other businesses. I was turning right into the drive thru lane, there was a guy opposite me with his blinker on needing to turn left. I very kindly and graciously stopped and waved him in since he would be sitting there for a while turning left. Big Mistake.
This guy was the one guy in the country who had never been to Taco Bell, had never heard of Taco Bell, had no idea what they served. He had to ask about every goddamn thing on the menu board. What is this? What's in it? How is it made? What does it come with? What is that? Every single menu item, every combo. I would have just gone home after the first five minutes, but there were cars behind me and those little brick half walls on either side so I was stuck.
He finally chooses what to order, yay! This Taco Bell, at the end of every order they would ask if you want to add an empanada to your order. In my mind I'm pleading, don't ask if he wants an empanada, please don't ask..."Would you like to add an empanada to your order?" What's an empanada? what's in it? How is it made? As someone who used to work at a drive-thru I feel for the workers. As simple as closing and opening the door is or something like that, we're not the ones who set the rules the owner/company does, there have been many a times where we try to do the sensible thing (like feed truck/bus drivers walking through drive-thru), but then someone ruins it for everyone (like steal or someone gets run over at drive-thru) and they come down on us hard to stop it. So while we could do the thing you want, we usually can't because we would get reamed by the managers the next day, and they control the paycheck so...

I once ordered subway online, and payed for it. When I get there, doors are locked, chairs on table, only a few lights on, and workers are inside cleaning. IT'S 4 IN THE AFTERNOON!! I didnt know they had started closing early because of Covid. But, since I had already paid, she made it for me, I just had to show her my phone for the type of sandwich, because they hadn't received it on their end. Luckily, also, my son likes his sandwiches plain, meat cheese and bread. I was ready to get mad, but she handled it well that I didn't have to

6:19 ooooo I have a story! It finally happened to me, ya'll.... I had an experience with a Karen in the wild! My husband and I were in the drive-thru at T-Bell and it was kind of late at night, around 10:30. There wasn't many fast food options open as most of them closed between 8 and 9, so there was a LONG line. As we moved inch by inch to the order screen, I noticed that the cars in front of me had been exceptionally close to each other's bumper. I thought, "really? We're like that now for T-Bell? It's just T-Bell." Well, we found out what was really going on once we got closer. The line to the drive-thru was quickly growing, and was wrapping around the building at this point. They closed the dining room, so that's why there was such a long line. When it was our turn to pull up to the "point of no return" as I call it (the point right before the order screen, where there's a curb that prevents you from leaving the line), there was a car with headlights on high, trying to push their way in instead of going through the line like everyone else. Now, I'm a nice person and will do nice things for others, be polite, show empathy, etc. BUT, if you are rude, hateful, or otherwise...then I can be petty AF. This car attempted to push me out of the line by inching closer and closer, to the point where their bumper was mere inches from mine, as I pulled around behind the car in front of me. What do I do? I put my headlights on high beam, aim it straight towards the Karen/Kevin driver, and got as close as I could to the bumper of the car in front of me. The Karen/Kevin vehicle was forced to back up some or face being hit and since there were cameras in the parking lot, plus my dash cam, they would have been in the wrong. They flashed their headlights at me and honked their horn once I pushed them back out of the way, and I smiled and waved at them as if they'd been someone I'd known for a while but hadn't seen 😂The car behind me recognized what was happening pretty quickly and got bumper to bumper with me. The Karen/Kevin car had been sitting in that spot attempting to push their way in for a while, because at this point, we'd been sitting in line for 35/40 minutes. The car in front of me, now parallel to the remaining vehicles in drive-thru, rolled down their window and yelled out to the remaining cars in line, "There's a Karen trying to cut everyone. Be prepared. It's bumper to bumper traffic ahead!" And rolled their window back up. The other cars, now aware, all moved up to each other, bumper to bumper, with a mere inch or two of space between everyone. It was the best "not today, Karen" that I've seen in a long time 🤣 After the 3rd car behind me managed to keep the Karen/Kevin car at a standstill, they backed up in a rage, and almost hit an employee walking to the dumpsters! You could see two people in the car, the driver clearly having a temper tantrum, and the passenger throwing their arms up in a "wtf" gesture in frustration with not being allowed to cut all the other cars that'd been sitting there for forever, too. They tried another tactic next, and pulled through the parking lot and tried to pull into the parking spot near the entrance so they could have the other cars in drive-thru make room so they could back out, and then the Karen/Kevin car could cut in line that way. No. Dice. Once they pulled into the closest parking spot, at an angle no less, the other cars REFUSED to move at all for them to get out and they were STILL stuck like that by the time I made it around the drive-thru area, paid, got my food, and left, and we're talking another 35 minutes 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

If I understand correctly, they couldn't let him in to get his order because the safe was open at that time, so they asked him to go to the drive through. While I can understand why he'd find that inconvenient, that is one of the risks one takes when dropping by so close to closing. Walking in a drive thru lane is generally safe, as long as its well lit, and if the gentleman walked to the restaurant to begin with, one would assume he'd have appropriate safety gear, like a reflective vest, if he was worried about traffic.

@@randomstuff-qu7sh as someone who's been in his shoes multiple times, that's probably not how it went down. I have the unfortunate luck to get easily hangry. So if I'm ever in a drive thru and you're making me wait for no reason I tend to get annoyed.
I'm usually pretty good at holding in the rage because I know that I'm extra sensitive when hungry and it's usually no one else's fault. But there have been a few times in a drive thru when I've let it show.
One of those times a guy cut me in the drive thru line and I rolled down my window telling him "hey, what was that for!!??" He started cussing me out and calling me names he even said "you fat Bitch you don't need McDonald's"
I had just had a baby 2 months before and was bigger than normal so that hurt. And breast feeding makes you crazy hungry. I yelled at him that he was a jerk and that I just had a baby. He flipped me off and we went on our way.
After I ordered my food and got out of the drive thru I parked in the parking lot to eat because I was so hungry lol. After a minute I see the guy approaching my car. I start to freak out a bit because this crazy guy is coming up to me. He doesn't look angry or unhinged, so when he motions for me to roll down my window, I do by just 2 inches and he proceeds to apologize!
I was completely thrown, he went on to talk about how he's trying to be a better person and that he wasn't fair to me and shouldn't have said what he said. I couldn't believe it. We went on to have a decent conversation for a few more minutes and then he left.
It literally blew my mind. Made me feel better and I really hope that guy is doing well now. It takes a lot of guts to go and try to apologize to a stranger so in depth.

I got to side with the KFC workers on the first one. So the Karen orders and pays online so they can just pick up the food. If the dine in is closed, why not just go through drive thru and ask if they can pick it up at the window. The worker mentioned there being a line of cars so I'm assuming they closed the dining room early so they can focus on getting the drive thru to run smoothly as that's a Plan B my manager would have to take sometimes.
Edit: Since the Karen stated that they didn't have a car, couldn't they have gotten that piece of information communicated without blowing up at the worker, like calling the location or flag down a worker and have in the notes app what's going on. Why did they have to go after the workers? That is my question. If you're blowing up at someone for an inconvenience that they had no control over, it really seems to me like a you problem.

I have actually had someone cut in front of me at a drive through at Mcdonalds before. Thing was there wasn't much of a line and one of the lanes speakers wasn't working and she went to that one so I went to the one that was working. So she goes up to the window to place an order and they tell her to go back through the working drive through to place it.

But people will still get mad, bang on doors and yell profanities as if we are responsible for the rules 🤦🏾‍♀️

I've worked at 4 different fast food restaurants. We never closed early, and we did get paid overtime if we went over our scheduled 40 hours in any given week, but our schedules factored in about an hour to close the store. So say we closed at 1am, our closers would be scheduled 5:30pm-2am (including 30 minutes for lunch).

@@WeAllLiveInTheTwilightZone I've worked at a total of 4 fast food restaurants. A McDonald's, a Wendy's, and two Taco Bells. At one Taco Bell, I was an opener and I was scheduled 35 hours a week. This particular store was probably about average in terms of traffic/revenue and management.
However, the other 3 stores I worked at were all very high traffic/revenue, and very well managed. At each of those, I was scheduled 40 hours per week. At 2 of them (Taco Bell and Wendy's), I worked the closing shift. They both closed at 1 am, so full time closers, like me, were scheduled 5:30pm to 2am. That's 8 hours plus a 30 minute, unpaid lunch break. And it gave us 1 hour after the posted closing time to clean the store, so there was no need to close early. Sometimes it took longer than an hour, if the late night rush was particularly bad. Sometimes, it took us an entire extra hour to close up shop, so we wouldn't get out of there until 3am, and we were paid overtime for that.
So it really just depends on the store. If a store is poorly managed or low revenue, then you're going to have issues like reduced hours, being asked to work off the clock, or closing the doors earlier than the posted closing time, etc.

I commented that he was nice, and she told me that the person in front of him had paid for him. So, paying it forward (backward actually?) I paid for the person behind me. My friend and I assumed Last Guy wouldn't pay it forward as he was known to be fairly selfish. People are becoming such wimps these days.
Your last statement might be true except for a couple of things. 1) The owner/franchisee of our local KFC refuses to reopen the dining room because of a couple old biddies who go in, get drinks and sit there for most of the day without buying anything else (the drive-thru is open, though, unless they decide to close it for some reason) and 2) I don't have a car so I can't very well use the drive-thru.

I think for me personally I eat a lot of baked foods and not so much fried as I've gotten older. So to me, maybe fried foods is kinda like a shock to the system and makes you feel ill when you eat it. Does that stop me from going 100% of the time? While the closest KFC to where I live is about 50 miles away, even after the Covid restrictions were lifted, the franchisee refuses to open up the lobby because of a couple of old "ladies" (term used loosely) who until closing for the pandemic would go in, order large drinks and sit there, taking up space, nearly all day and not ordering anything else (except free refills) while they were there.
Lately, they've even been closing down the drive-thru even though they would normally be open for business.
