How would these compare for european piste usage with Volkl Peregrine 80? Typically in spring we have end of day moguls and soft snow after morning fine groomer. I am a good intermediate+ skier staying mostly on piste, loved the Anomaly 88 a week ago in Italy, haved loved Deacon 76 in the past.

The R15 is a stronger and sharper ski than the Peregrine 80. It's more race-like, like the Deacon 76, just again I think one step crisper.

how do they compare to something like Atomic Q9 or X9 WB? Are they also as springy as those?

The Thunderbird does a great job of combining energy and dampness. The skis are very sturdy and solid but the tail has great rebound. I also find the R15 to be pretty darn versatile in terms of turn shape, style, and some softer snow and crud.

How does this ski compare to the Hero MT ti? Looking for the livelier/more poppy of the two. Open to other suggestions if any others come to mind :) thanks

I'd say the Hero is livelier and poppier than the denser and more stable Thunderbird.

Would you take this or the peregrine 76? Looking for a dedicated carver (advanced skier looking to progress into the expert category and try my hand at badly losing some beer league races).

I find the Thunderbird to be more of a dedicated carver. Amazingly, the Peregrine 76 feels pretty versatile. It's powerful and strong, no doubt, but the slight rocker in the tips and tails keep it just a fraction away from the less tapered and rockered Blizzard. The Thunderbird feels more planted in the snow in my experience. Also in my experience losing beer league races, the Thunderbird does feel comfortable in gates, even when I do not.

Thanks!! I think I’ll take the peregrine then since it probably won’t make any difference to my results and sounds like more of a daily driver.

@@alupsaiuI have a set of these. I’m on season 3, I’m a strong skier, but not one who grew up racing. These skis help me set up for the next gate easier in the course and definitely make me more comfortable. Just keep them sharp.
