At 5:00 he literally goes to wipe a tear from his eye. Forget whatever you think about how he looks while playing - you couldn’t begin to understand what it’s like to have that level of passion. By the time he’s 30 seconds in, mentally - he’s left the room. To love you must feel, and what you’re seeing is a man feeling music

I think this is the best interpretation of this Etude I've heard. I've listened to dozens on UA-cam. His speed and accuracy is paramount. My personal opinion is that Etudes were written as "exercises" to develop technique and virtuosity. I feel that many play this Etude more like a Nocturne. Here the study demands this technique and virtuosity in the middle part and Lang Lang plays it with remarkable ease. Of course the sweetener is the beginning and end parts (the parts I can play lol).

If you guys are going to insult langlang, please, PLEASE upload a video of you playing this piece first. I've read his books, and he has reasons for his facial expressions and that's who he is. His smiles aren't "fake" or "dumb", they're genuine because he feels happy when he plays, which is what music is all about! He's had a really tough past, so don't judge him off of one unreasonable thought you have. Seriously. If you really don't like langlang, then WHY ARE YOU EVEN WATCHING HIM?!

Surely it's a perfectly valid comment for a non-pianist, or a poor one, to comment on which virtuoso they prefer, and why? Otherwise, you are condemning all critics to unemployment. (This may not be a bad thing...)

I've never heard this Chopin Etude before, but I already fell in love with it. I'm usually not a huge fan of Lang Lang's interpretations but this piece suites his style perfectly. It often sounds like Lang Lang takes his music for granted, but he plays this piece like he'd know that it would be the last time that he could ever play the piano again. From sincere remorse and vulnerable sorrow into inner peace through acceptance. Sorry that I tried to put down on words, as they give no justice :)

Lang Lang squeezed at least 40 pieces of lengthy classical music into his body and mind, so he said during an interview in Czech Republic. I think his body movement and facial expressions are a manifestation of how he visualize a piece of music, and plays it. Why should anybody doubt his sincerity by saying his expression is fake. Come on, memorize one lengthy piece is already for most of us, let alone 40 pieces. Be fair to him, please!

Some lovely playing especially when he plays pianissimo. His style here goes back to an earlier age of piano playing when the performer was as important as the composer. Nowadays the style is to play straight with few or no personal touches whatever. At least you cant call Lang Lang boring. I dont like everything he does. Some find his facial contortions disconcerting but he is a tremendously gifted player.

Lang Lang's upbringing was straight out of Dickens! Horrible isn't even the word. I can't imagine a more inspiring story than his road to international acclaim and super stardom. He deserves every single solitary accolade he wins. Truthfully, he is the embodiment of Liszt! His performance of Liszt's Don Juan Reminiscences is breathtaking and probably exactly how Liszt would have played it.
