    Espn will always hate on Ohio State because our influence on big ten media rights contracts which we prefer fox sports/abc. 🤗 Fortunately we have a season to determine the correct answer. --- However - it is quite possible that unforeseen injuries could alter the reality based on their rosters. (?) A 52nd ranked schedule won't give a Big 10 experience by any means ? -- Oregon had a $945 million - 'boost' - in NIL & facilities !!! > Hard to believe 'that' won't provide an upgrade !?!? - - - Texas goes to M & OSU goes to O - so - an early indicator will be seen - yet the conclusion won't be known until the end of the season ? - - - ESPN's FPI really liked OSU last year for winning it all. -?- Yea it did ! > I remember it well. 🤔 I respect Josh Pate and Joel Klatt for 'perspective' and 'opinions' - w/o bias - and both think very highly of the Buckeyes this coming season ! Many believe adding Chip Kelly is 'huge' - especially Pate. --- The combination of > NIL use - the portal use - recruiting strength - coaching changes - resources available - and actual record - - - seem to give Ryan Day the edge in the minds of many ? --- Including mine. I agree with you Sam. OSU 'appears' to be the best or tied with Georgia as the best - on paper. - - - OSU won the 1st CFP Championship w/4 teams - and did it with their 3rd string QB as I recall - against an undefeated and Heisman winning QB !!! (42 - 20) --- I think it's only fitting they win the 1st CFP with 12 teams.

    Oregon Linebackers are not a weakness. The only weakness on Oregon's D is at Safety and has to do with depth. Also, the SOS ranking was manipulated by the powers that be. Most of the Pac 12 was ranked last year after a perfect non-conf win record early in the season. They started dropping Pac 12 teams out of the top 25 after people started asking questions why Media giants were killing the Pac 12.

    Ohio State does football well. Michigan does too. Both of them impress the poop out of me. I can see the cultural differences though. When you think of Northern football the first name that comes to mind is Michigan and Ohio State is what I think an SEC school is like. I'm a Nebraska fan. Nebraska got killed at both places when I went but, it was kind of good because I got to make some friends. Heck, a guy I ran into in Ann Arbor ended up leading me to College World Series tickets. This is one of the very best analyses I’ve seen ever. No joke, no supplication. Ohio State is sound everywhere. The only concern I see is pass protection.
    Oregon has the most to prove in my opinion, but not due to questionable game management ( Oregon’s defense is in no case clutch enough to rely on, and that unit lost the four games you mentioned more than the play calling and situational calls-if you score more than 30 points on offense and lose-your defense is the reason )
    Oregon is in the best position to challenge Ohio State because they are also a pretty complete team. I don’t believe they are as awesome as Ohio State on defense, but they are going to be much better than last year. More depth up front, and a much better secondary ( which cost them all five of their losses).
    Texas has the same issues from 2023, though I believe QB Evers is going to play better than most assume he is capable of. Their secondary is still a weakness, and they may lack depth on the defensive line. Texas will score plenty of points, but the defense is the key. As pointed out, neither Texas or Oregon have awesome offensive firepower that matches LSU’s record setting 2019 numbers, which would be necessary to handle Ohio State’s defense.
    I also believe Chip Kelly will exploit Will Howard’s skillset very well. Just think of Dennis Dixon and Darron Thomas ( Oregon’s 2007 and 2010 QBs that were accurate just enough to go with their excellent running skills). Ohio State is going to average 40 points a game this year, and if Kelly learned from the 2010 title game, he’ll get 28 on elite defenses like Georgia has ( whom I believe is vulnerable against the best running teams-talent and skill wise).
    Elite matchups come down to mistakes. Teams close enough in talent with their opponents win by omitting mistakes and forcing the one or two mistakes necessary to win. Ohio State is best suited to meet that requirement. Ohio State ( unfortunately as an Oregon alum) should win the Natty this year.

    You’re off on the Ducks linebackers. Jeffrey Bassa was all-conference with 72 tackles last year and Jestin Jacobs, a 4 star recruit who played well at Iowa, is finally healthy after being injured the last couple of years. This will be a strength on the defense.

    Jeffrey Bassa btw is a converted safety that is the 🎤 mic linebacker…literally! He had 42 solo tackles which would’ve been first if he was on Ohio States defense, and he had 72 total tackles which would’ve been 3rd on for the buckeyes. The point is, you favor the Big10 teams, and you just don’t understand the new flavors of ice cream the Big10 is releasing to the public in 2024. At least not as well as someone like me. All I can say is, Oregon has a better LB unit compared to the buckeyes which isn’t saying much, since 2 of the 3 are young and inexperienced, or old and injury prone, on top of being inexperienced after moving from safety.
    Long story short, Oregon has a great LB unit, especially since one of our red shirt sophomore who runs a 10.5 100m and runs 23mph, is figuring out the complex 4-2-5 base defense in his third year…according to players and coaches.
    Oregon will excel in the Big10, and you’re right, FPI isn’t the greatest, but S&P+ is…and they have Oregon’s offense as the clear number 1 in the conference…and though there defense is under a 15, it has went from 75th to 9th in scoring defense, in the first 2yrs of Dan Lanning’s tenure. And there’s no reason that it won’t make huge strides again, since it is a complex defense, and for the 3rd or 4th year ducks, it will be even better, since it relies on checks and audibles just before the offensive snap. So players really need to know it inside and out. Players need at least 2yrs in the system to really understand it, which will be 75% of the defense, if I had to make an educated guess. Let’s hope the payed assassins from the transfer portal can pick it up fast though. I know I won’t have to worry about Jabar Muhammad, since he was easily the best corner I saw in 2023 who didn’t go to the NFL And the DT positions won’t be much of an issue either, since Oregon doesn’t really ask them to rush the passer very often. The only ones I’m worried about are the CB and Safety transfers, even though the safety position is probably the least important position on the defense, according to the NFL draft. I mean you literally have the most time to see the plays develop, and you just need to keep the play in front of you. Unfortunately, Oregon does play a lot of Nickel, so that changes things, since the safety becomes the 5th corner.
    Anyway, I feel confident that the S&P+ is a little low for Oregons defense, since Oregon is close to, equal to, or better than, every buckeyes position group in 2024…and Oregon clearly has the better offense.

    • @jimmy5634

      Dude you don’t know Jack about Ohio States linebackers. We have a two-year veteran at the “Mike” position who’s a 234 lb.stud. The other two are five stars, one of whom was the top player in the nation at his position coming out of high school in 2022. The other was the number 1 player in Ohio that same year and ranked in the top ten nationally.
      Your secondary is nowhere near the level of Ohio States’. You can yip all you want, but look at the national ratings. Ohio States 2024 defense is rated number one by everyone based on stats and returning players.

      As far as the LB’s that remain, I think they’re good but not elite. But that can change by the end of the season. We’ll see how they do at Autzen. I’m liking that the game before Ohio state got switched to Friday, against Michigan State at Autzen…so no extra travel to wear us down…and that will give Oregon an extra day to prep for Ohio State, and the Oregon players will get to see the entire Buckeye game against Iowa, instead of just cut ups, which is really helpful for the Ducks prep.

    Im not sure who's better between Oregon and osu. They play each other, so we will figure that out. Will be a hell of a game. But im confused why your bringing texas into this. They play in the sec. Not b10. I think it says a lot that your bringing in a team that you won't even compete against unless you meet in the playoffs. So on this alone, I think osu

      he brought them in on the premise that people are saying they are going to come in to the SEC and dominate (win SEC), like Oregon in the B1G. however, they both come from conferences lacking defense and physicality and are in for eye an opening experience like other new comers to those conferences

    • @josephrenfro6071
      @josephrenfro6071 4 місяці тому

      @ralphpeck6927 you said a few things here. You implied that the b10 and sec are the only conferences that play physically and defense. You can have that opinion. But I disagree. A lot of what determines if a conference plays physically and good defense is determined by what style of offense the conferences play. For example, 10 years ago, the big12 was a high tempo spread league. Teams avg in the 30s on offense. Big10 and sec played more in the box which made for less plays and a slower game. They avg in the 20s on offense. Now over the last 5 or so years the big10 and sec both play more high tempo offenses and the big12 plays more in the box. The big 12 has been more of a defense conference than offense. That just hasn't been the narrative for some reason. So ill break down how many physical teams that play good defense for each conference. Pac12-Oregon, Utah, Washington. (Arizona did last year and Washington not so much last year) but I was looking for more consistency. Big10- Michigan, Iowa
      Sec- Georgia, bama. Big12- Iowa st, Kansas st, Texas. Truth is not very many teams play good defense anymore. Most of the time is masked by the opposing offenses they go against.
      Secondly. The big10 nor sec have ever added good teams to there conference. This is unprecedented. The sec added mizzu and ta&m. Both middle of the road teams in the big 12. Both had early success. Big 10 added Nebraska who had already fallen off when they joined. Both Oregon and texas are playoff caliber teams. They will both compete for conference championship. But the odds for any 1 team to win their conference is slim. You would always take the field vs any 1 team on any given year. So it's not really a bold statement saying they won't win it. Because odds are they won't. But they have just as good of odds as anyone else.
      If your a playoff team then your a playoff team period. Doesn't matter what conference you come from. If your the 4th best team in the country then that's what you are. It's silly to say, oh your the 4th best team in the country in the pac12 or big12 but not in the sec or big 10. Just wait and see lol. Truth is the big10 and sec are going to adjust to the new conferences just as much as new schools are.

    My take and opinion on Ohio States QB room is that the depth is great.
    The take on Will Howard could be under rated since we are comparing his KSU stats and performance. It's not proven yet what he could become at OSU, but if you look at what he had to work with there to what he gets at OSU the upside feels enormous. If he csnt get it done there aretwo gun singers right behind him in Brown and Sayin.
    With Chip Kelly on board the offense will showcase a better ground game with the QB threat in that. This will open up the insane WR room for bigger plays on that end. It won't be a lot of nickle and dime to go against, it will be exploiting defenses. All the QB has to do I manage, make first downs and wait for the big opportunities that will come with all that talent.

They had a very good defense last year and they ALL came back to accomplish great things. No other reason just because they are pissed off at themselves. No better motivation than that. They added the best safety in the country. Offense is scary good as well. They had great players return that were equally good and equally pissed = motivation. They have a new QB that has already won a conference championship with K State and a receiver corp that’s going to be the best in the country when all is said and done barring injury. They have the best RB pair in the country period and hands down. Not even a debate there. ESPN hates Ohio State so I pay no attention to them. I don’t even want to act like Fishigan fans but I’ll go that route. They had to cheat to win, out of this 3 game losing streak only 1 was a legit loss. You see what happens when they don’t get to cheat, they barely win at home with OSU’s worse qb in a long time and he was the difference in the game in 2023. But I’ll give Fishigan 1 win if they didnt cheat and that’s probably 2021. We know OSU wouldn’ve smoked Fishigan in 2020 and Hairball gets wacked. That would’ve been 9 straight losses, it’s hard to beat a rival 10 straight games and Fishigan would’ve been due for a win so I’ll give them 2021. Oregon beat OSU in 2021 with a young CJ Stroud and OSU had a defensive coordinator that had no business having that job, we know if they had played later that year with Stroud’s more experience they smoke Oregon. 2021 Fishigan gets blasted by Georgia and can’t beat TCU in 2022, OSU would’ve blasted them, but OSU has bad luck with Georgia. OSU bad luck again with an offensive lineman tripping and allowing Fishigan’s d lineman to make a play to cause an int. If OSU wins that game they would’ve became national champions. The cheaters can get credit for winning without Connor but they still cheated for 2 plus seasons and that will never be negated. You know in your heart OSU is beating Fishigan next game and it’s will be by the very least 2 td’s. For all of the talk by Fishigan and their fans Ryan Day may run up the score to an extent lol. Ohio State is winning the natty, going undefeated or maybe just 1 loss at Oregon, and that’s a big maybe but OSU wins the rematch in the Big 18 title game. Fishigan on the the other steps back like James Harden with at the very least 3 losses to Texas, Oregon, and OSU. They might lose to USC and even could drop an unexpected game. Best case I see for them is 3 losses and worse case is 5 losses including the postseason. OSU is going 16-0 or 15-1 as national champs and look at it as that being good for the Big 18 with consecutive national champs and that takes away from the SEC’s dominance. We still have to wait and see what the ncaa does to Fishigan eventually though. OSU is starting another win streak against Fishigan and this is the beginning of a national dynasty. This isnt the same as past years and it’s especiaaly cause all of the players coming back, transfer pick ups, and coaching additions while Fishigan lost all of those upperclassmen to graduation and the draft, new coaching staff, doesnt recruit at a top 10 level and that’s what’s needed to sustain similar success. @@kevinchavis8462 didn’t Michigan win the national championship last year and didn’t osu lose to Missouri. Also genuine question but is ksu qb really going to be osu starter cuz if that the case Dillion Gabriel going to wreck osu like Michigan did last year.

    • @kevinchavis8462
      @kevinchavis8462 4 місяці тому

      @@Jajsnsjsn I clearly said Michigan won without Connor. That has nothing to do with this upcoming season, pay attention to what has transpired this offseason. I have explained this to many casuals, OsU did did lose to Missouri, only casuals and trolls take stock in that game. OSU was without Marv and their another top 3 wr. Without 2 of their top 3 rb’s. True freshman 3rd string qb takes over early in the game due to the 2nd string qb getting hurt after Kyle Mccord transfers before the game. Starting Center out and the rest of the oline was reshuffled. Out their top 2 linebackers. When Missouri sees a reshuffled oline with a true freshman 3rd string qb with no significant snaps all season Missouri stacks the box to help limit OSU’s run game and brings constant pressure on run and pass plays. Missouri had all of their stars except just 2 defensive starters. It’s a non playoff game so really it doesn’t matter, it’s just bragging rights and I still would’ve said that if OSU won, especially when teams aren’t even close to full strength. That’s why I don’t put stock in that Gerogia/Florida St bowl game. If any other top team had the exact same circumstances as OSU against Missouri, that team loses to Missouri too. The same Missouri team that played the true best or 2nd best team in Georgia at Georgia’s stadium real tough. While both teams were near full strength. That game came down to the final 5 minutes. If OSU has some of their players available, especially one of their top 2 qb’s, OSU beats Missouri. Will Howard proved he can lead a team a Big 12 championship and beat the national runner up TCU in the conference championship game. That was with him playing with a far less talented team than OSU. At OSU Howard is an experienced qb, playing with way more talent, being coached by one of the best qb developers in the game, playing in a mobile qb friendly system under Chip Kelly while blending in the passing concepts from one of the best play callers in Ryan Day. OSU has the best rb duo and a top 3 wr unit if not the best to mesh with Howard. Plus OSU will have the best defense which be an historic unit which takes pressure off of what will be one of the best offenses which will be a balanced attack. If not Howard, OSU has a deep qb room. None have to be what OSU has had in the past with being a top qb, just good enough and Howard or any other will be that. I don’t think Howard will be the no 1 qb in all of college football but it’s not like that’s impossible, but I do see him being improved and being one of the best qb’s in the game, doesn’t need to be a top heisman candidate but I think he will be one of the best qb’s, if not he’ll still be good enough and that’s definitely enough for a national title in which OSU accomplishes that goal. Then the recruiting floodgates get even bigger and that’s scary hours for everyone else. Even if OSU loses to Oregon in which I don’t think so but it is a possibility, it will be a close tough game if Oregon wins. OSU’s defense is too good to be wrecked by Dillion and Oregon’s offense. OSU has a better chance at wrecking them than the other way around but I think it will be a tough game for both. If Oregon wins or not OSU beats them in a rematch in the Big 18 title game on a neutral field.

      How so? The center position was rated extremely low by PFF last season, and despite the tackles receiving high ratings that was the worst Ohio State pass-blocking OL (and run-blocking OL) in the entire Day era. Simmons is highly penalized, Fryar might be a better fit at guard, and Donovan Jackson is the most talented player on that OL by NFL projections, and is only behind Fryar in PFF player rankings. Given that Montgomery could play at guard and either Hinzman or McLaughlin will play at RG along with Jackson at LG, the interior of the OL could be very good, particularly at run blocking. Also, this unit is extremely thin across the board as they are about as young or slightly younger compared to Michigan, despite losing 5 less players to the draft.
