All these old cars that they're trashing, the ones i grew up with, are definitely nowhere near there end in terms of service! Quite honestly they're good enough to go atleast another 20 maybe 25 years. No way in hell are they outdated but in terms of technology yea they definitely are. These cars were built to last and not to be complicated unlike the R44's that were complicted as fuck upon there arrival. The beauty of these cars is that they are very tough and not complicated to maintain.
I HATE the R160's they made all the BMT Broadway lines, BMT ENY, and IND Jamaica Yard lines boring. SMEEs are now only found in 8-car sets, and should still be on the IND Jamaica Yard lines ((E), (F), occasionally (G), (R), and former (V)). I so wish I could Railfan the lines, though I really dont dislike the R143: they have an interesting propulsion.
I find the R160 interior nice, the GOH R32/38/40/M/42 interior is ugly imo, the preGOH 1960s-1970s interior is much nicer and is a bit similar to the NTTs today (blue seats, bright blue walls) www.nycsubway.org/perl/show?5440
