There is a big flaw in your argument here. The Equinox EV is not selling at MSRP. Dealers are pricing these in the mid 30s with rebates such as a costco rebate, a Bolt owner OR conquest rebate of $1500-3000 plus the tax credit. There is no way you can talk down the price on a tesla. So apples to apples the Equinox is easily $5k or more less than the model Y. Also, the $35k version is readily available now.
The equinox has more interior space because they don’t have a frunk. It’s a design trade off. They also put some of the HVAC stuff in front of the of the passenger compartment firewall which helps keep noise down, but again takes up space where a frunk might go.
Not having a fob would be a deal breaker for me. Being locked out of your car because your phone is broken/stolen/lost/dead would be so stupid. The fob goes in my pocket and stays there. I bought an almost bare-bones LT the week of Thanksgiving for under MSRP and plenty of discounts/credits on top of the federal credit. It's been a while since I rode in a Tesla Y or 3, but just took a long trip in an S - the Equinox is more comfortable for me and a smoother ride. I do wish the Equinox had the camera view that comes on in the S when signaling a lane change and a frunk would have been nice. The glare in the Equinox - I don't think it's necessarily an issue, until you notice it and then *always* notice it. Polarized sunglasses eliminate the problem and I got a fitted dash mat thing I will be trying this week. IMO, don't upgrade to 21" wheels - they cost more to replace and actually make the ride rougher.
You "can" go to a dealership and purchase the base model Equinox ev that is stickered $34,995 . There are plenty of them on the lots , I purchased the base model and added awd and its price was $37,000 and a few pennies .
Went to Chevy dealer to trade in my MY24 Model Y Performance with 4k miles. It was an eye opener. They offered $34k on $44500 ( 52000-7500) Model Y. So I guess I am sticking with my Model Y for now.
Of course I do, however the Tesla software is amazing so it's not an issue. Often NOT the case with traditional OEMs...although happy to report Chevy's was pretty good
Nice review. I think someone already pointed out that you can adjust the volume on the back of the steering wheel (right side). On the left side, back of the steering wheel you can fast forward or rewind media and there’s also a regen paddle on the left side. I noticed the EQEV you drove had SuperCruise but you did not comment on that. FWIW, we have a Model Y and the same trim Equinox EV you drove, but a different color. Preference wise it’s sort of a coin flip. Depends on what you’re doing with the vehicle. I prefer the styling of EQEV and I also notice that even though it’s heavier than the Model Y, it’s more energy efficient. We’re getting 3.5 mi/kWh compared to 3.2 mi/kWh with the Model Y. GM has clearly calibrated it for maximum efficiency as opposed to super launch capability. I prefer the cargo capacity of the Model Y and some of the quirkier capabilities like the lock tones and the ability to watch Netflix or UA-cam while at a SuperCharger. On the other hand, it’s only been to a SuperCharger five times in the 13 months we’ve owned it. Two excellent EVs. We’re lucky that we can afford to have both.
Tesla’s quick acceleration is probably what’s contributing to the news that they are being ranked the deadliest vehicles on the road, in terms of fatalities.
How is the build quality on Tesla EVs? I've seen so many UA-cam videos about Tesla build quality issues like misaligned panels, suspension collapse, detached seatback, detached interior panel, cheap interior material, chips on exterior paint, etc. Are these issues still there with Tesla EVs?
Just rode in a new S and could see that the driver side door seal had some folds and kinks in it. Nothing you couldn't fix in a couple minutes, but you shouldn't have to.
@ I know this but for a 35k model y it does not have has a msrp of 49k. More like cheapest model y for 45k and with tax credit around 37k. There are one offs discounted in inventory with the lowest I’ve seen at 35k with tax credit but the msrp is like 43. With the tax credit these equinoxes can be had for 27k maybe even less depending on discounts and deals.
Hello, I'm a Korean subscriber. Equinoxev is launching in Korea. I've only been riding the Chevrolet. I have a question while waiting for this Equinoxev. The tram is currently using Bolt euv in Malibu. The fatal drawback of the Bolt euv is that the backseat angle is too close to right angle and the seats are narrow. Traveling from the backseat for an hour or two is too demanding. I'd like to know some of the backseat depth of the Equinoxev and the height of the floor and the backrest angle.
GM and Tesla measure their cargo volumes differently. Tesla basically measures as if you could fill the whole car with water, wha the volume of the water would. GM uses SAE measurements methods that’s based on standard box that you can fit in the vehicle.
It's working great! Haven't needed it yet haha (kinda want a power outage just to use it!). I know they are still rolling it out to some areas, but our area has been covered for months.
Appreciate your review Basically it could come.down to price for me. If the Equinox could be less expensive as a.similarly equipped Tesla, I could see getting one. The base model Chevy likes to advertise may not have enough features for me
Excellent review. Nobody ever seems to mention getting a Tesla because they’re the ones that put their ass on the line to make electric vehicles even happen. Chevy seems to be playing catch-up mode, probably forever.
thank you! a lot of the original manufacturers are in catch up mode for sure, but good to see better ones like this come out. I think it's good to have healthy competition.
The Chevy looks better than the Tesla Model Y. Never never buy a legacy OEM maker EV. Once you buy it, that's it. Tesla and Rivian are the only two that constantly increase car features and OTA fixes. Plus phone as a key is a MUST.
What does Union have to do with it? Chevy’s are shite because of GM. Actually I test drove the Equinox EV and thought it was great especially for the money. They offered a killer lease deal but I walked 0:01 0:01 because of no CarPlay and slow DC charging. Typical GM. Got an Ioniq 5 instead with 2 years free charging.

Equinox has volume buttons behind the steering wheel
The tesla supposed 308 miles is not accurate though based on many real world tests. vs chevy actually meeting or beating their EPA numbers.

Also on range, the NoxEV you said had 21in wheels. When you spec the Y with 20in wheels its rated range drops to 280.
Also, as a model 3 owner, the single center screen is horrible. My next EV will definitely have more than just a single screen like that.

The equinox battery is actually 10Kwh bigger than the model Y.
I have both. Y is better but the lease deals on the Chevy are hard to beat
Yep bigger but not as efficient as the range is not as good at the MY. Something I think Chevy needs to look at...
For me the Tesla phone as key is too unreliable. So I have the Tesla keyfob which works a lot more reliably. Keyfob is a win!

I'd take the car with the buttons. You get used to touchscreens but it's not a better experience at all.
Depends on the person, I prefer my touchscreen, but I totally see why you would say this! Some buttons are nice.
Exactly this. You can get used to the single touch screen, but it doesn’t mean it’s a good experience. People get used their abusers too.

Actually 2025 models are rolling out the lt to dealers. I have seen a few at dealerships in the metro Detroit area. Seems to be around 35k
$35, 000 for the new model y awd is pretty generous , when the msrp is $49,380 . Please don't believe me , check it out for yourself .
