At first, opening the sail felt just like another mundane task, but once we saw Yabá with the sail flapping we got so excited! Who else can't wait to see Yabá with 4 open sails navigating to the horizon??
Here is a ouple of suggestions you might like to consider... make a slightly wider board walk on the bowstring so you can get access more easily and even sit on the bowsprit without having to crawl and cling precairously on a pole to get to the forestry. You could also carve a mermaid and fit the bust under the sprit. Just love your project it turning out to be spectacular...
Varnish in layers 90⁰ crossed. The last two layers in the woodgrain direction. Your varnish won't degrade as rapidly as all in one direction. It's stronger against UV as it won't penetrate that easy to the fiberglass on the roof. You will expand your varnish cycle for at least two years. Be safe and joyful. 🤗👋👋
The maintenance on this boat will be a full time job for at least two people. The varnish looks good now but after 6 months with salt water and sun it will require constant repair. Bad enough it's all wood but the size and amount of varnish is going to be one expensive money pit that never ends.
I have been following your journey since Roberta & Duca convinced you to put your story on UA-cam I got a shock to see how much damage & rot the sea worms had done to Yaba & thought you would never get to this stage!! Great work guys & I cant wait to see the day Yaba finally hits the water!! Look forward to your new journeys on the seas!
Yeah, a crows nest would be super cool. i think the foremast would be the most aesthetically satisfying spot. I don't know how that would work with the sails though. Also, adding weight aloft reduces overall efficiency since it makes the boat pitch and heel more. Something on the bowsprit would be more practical.
Hi favorite UA-cam folks! Sorry we’re late getting to you. We were on a disconnected weekend away. Your progress is outstanding. Don’t let the rain get you down. You will catch up in no time. A little thing like that can’t keep good people down and you’re the best! Closer and closer!
Hey MP and Ben. Am truly impressed at the amount of varnish being applied. Incredible that 6 more coats and then another 4 onc e Yabá is on water. Definitely put a fo'castle👍. Looked so cool how it was being made. It certainly adds a touch of individuality to a boat. Till the next episode!!! Tchau.
Yabá is getting closer and closer to be fully on water!! you guys must be feeling sooo happy that your home is almost ready to travel the world :D !!! yay
What you're calling the superstructure is a trunk cabin top and what you're going to fiberglass is called the overhead little nautical terms guys are doing a great job keep it up
seeing Yaba with one sail open had been like magic... I'm not sure how it will look on yaba but I'm preatty sure the bucket on the mast will be great :-)
The visuals and the stunning music 🎶 in your edits is so enjoyable. Love the way you both interact with each other. Yaba being built with so much love.
Hello. I keep my fingers crossed for you and your project. The sailing ship is getting more and more beautiful. Regarding your question, do you want to sail or have balance problems. The less weight at the top, the better. Such a socket weighs a lot and the socket shown by you - it rather floats on the engine, I think.
Just let me say these guys in the boat yard are just EPIC I mean I work hard or so I thought but this Team is truly Epic hats off to you Gentlemen. Pace is really starting to pick up now and the detail work can begin in earnist and all the tanks and electrical can go in and the engine can start to feel at home. Both roofs are looking great and and will look excellent. Yeah you getting the same weather we have been getting in NZ Rain but then it is winter. Keep aty it and Carry On. :0)
Build a completely new vessel around two masts with the sails still up. When vessel built take sails down LOL Great video and enjoy seeing the rest of a busy traditional working yard.
Congratulations on the progress thus far , it's nothing short of Amazing.. The men who have rebuilt Yaba are beyond superior to anything I've seen. Watching the shipwrights moving the vessels around manually was no small feat...I was just gobstopped by the old world way things are done. As my Dad says"It works because ,That's how it's been done since before machines. Men an muscle an Workin smart not hard! " ... He is a old school man thru an thru... A gentleman!! Grateful for being able to watch your progress weekly!! ✌🏼💗😊❣️
@@4ustube absolutely. Within a few years, Ben will get hand cramps at the mention of the word varnish. Salt water and sun are unrelenting enemies of boats and boat owners free time.
If it was me, I'd cover those house tops with some kind of fabric to protect them from the UV in the sunlight when I was not actually sailing, especially while you're working on her. Even with 9 coats of good marine varnish, the sun, especially in the tropics, eats it up pretty quickly and if it damages the epoxy underneath, it makes a real mess.
I would love to see you bring Yaba up to the Mystic Wooden Boat Show someday to see her for myself. A number of wonderful wooden boats show up each year and it would be great if you two could make it up one year.
@@SailingYaba Instead of a crows nest with Yab'as long bow sprit it would look awesome with a catch net under it .unless of course that the mast is tall enough that the crows nest was above the sail then i say yes to the nest or why not both .
Hey, shipwright here, great job so far, I'm subscribing. You may find you have some cracking in the epoxy on the pilothouse roof, along the caulking lines, from the thicker more traditional deck planks expansion and contraction. With thinner wood, the epoxy can stabilize a greater % of the wood thickness, if that makes sense, so there's less unstabilized wood to expand and contract. My favorite advice to cruisers is: have enough anchor, you'll sleep better on and off the boat, and sailboat cruising is supposed to be fun, hah. How do you know if you have enough anchor? Easy, one of your anchors should be just big enough, that your sailing friends start to tease you about it, good luck!
You two and the folks there working so hard. She is looking like the one of a kind vessel she is. So much attention to detail. Something about the sails being there seams rather symbolic of her rebirth. She is getting ready to start a whole new life on the sea. I seriously believe few other than you two could have had the strength and heart to bring her back to life. She was so close to being lost forever. Incredible!
Hi guys just popped in to say what great videos you do, really do appreciate that you are always on time each week, I really enjoy getting up every Monday morning to tune in to watch the next episode, always on time, that is appreciated, MARTIN

I really, really like the attitude there to health and safety, it reminds me of when I was a boy in the early sixties running around Grimsby docks, so much nicer than all the crap we have here in the UK now.
more paint. Paint is so much easier and less time consuming. I know, varnish looks beautiful, but it's very labor intensive. You're doing a great job though!

With the all ballast with MP's smiley faces all sails will be extra happy. Well, it can't hurt, Attitude matters!
Crows nest...YES definitely 😀
Looks really good Canada
I like a few bright colour accents, yellow, red in a few areas. I think that really has a positive effect on mood.
crisp sails are good!
Goodmorning guys ☕☕👋🌞👍

The decks and cabin tops should have some areas of anti-slip compound added for safe footing.
I am looking forward to the faring of Yaba's hull. Also the choice of antifouling paint and color.
Thanks for all good videos 😊.
Good work and progress 👍.
Looking forward to more 😁
Given any thought to securing the ballast, I should think that would be a priority
