I have one of these with the slant 4 running on propane and I can honestly say it is exactly as advertised my dad and I took it to the top of bald mountain and completely stock it went everywhere anyone else's rig went and places some rigs couldn't go and it did it smooth slow and easily
I have such a soft spot for these. Growing up my father had a 79', which then was near new, that he used as a daily driver and a 64' used as a hunting and camp vehicle. I loved those things.
Thanks for this bit of Australian manufacturing history and marketing. The Victorian registration plate on the car HNB 802 would have been issued in the early months of 1962 and would have usually stayed with the vehicle for its life on Victorian roads. Victoria registration consistent with the International Harvester factory in Geelong Victoria where it would have been assembled with as much Australian content as possible like that factory produced IHC truck engines. Six cylinder known to me. Later seen overtaking the top selling 1960 Holden Station Wagon.
No wonder it's so smart to be seen in - it's got those "widely-spaced headlights" that Jeeps and Land Rovers don't! Love Scout 80's. Don't know if I want to own one or just hug one.
Absolute spot on advertisement. No bull at all. Straight shooting facts with the proof rightly shown. God, how delightfully simple and earnest. Ashamed as a Yank to admit (lamentably) Jeep has lost their way as they strayed too far from their roots. In automobile vernacular, to quote the great Paul Hogan “…This is a Knife!” God Bless America, and God Bless Australia.
My uncle has like 5 of them in his backyard just rotting aways, makes me sad to see rot and he always says that he is going to make one run and sell it
Can't find much of Anything on the net reference my 1976 - Int'L TERRA scout (II) ??.......... 118 inch wheelbase 345-v8 , 4x4, automatic Hard-copy Convertible w/A/C....... I did see a video for one though and they were asking $49,999.00 : o
@@adp33 not back in the early sixties for this ad. Change to kilometres in about 1974. Think Australia would have standardised on the six cylinder truck engines for local production.
Congrats! Welcome to the wonderful world of International Scouts! There's a number of communities out there with plenty of info and helpful people. Check out the forums on www.BinderPlanet.com or www.BinderBulletin.org. We're also on facebook.com/scout80800s and www.instagram/scout80800s. Scout on!
One reason is people want a lot of creature comforts. This had none, zero, manual everything. I personally think even though the motors run a lot longer these days in terms of miles. The manufacturers have to get the mileage up, weight down and make them easy to recycle. I.E. plastic and designing things 'just enough' to make it to 100k if riden hard, these old ones were over engineered in terms of materials and lets face it, they want you to trade in when you pay your loan off, not keep it another 25 years. Just some thoughts.
nick stradford exactly. I got a 73 which for some reason DMV registers it as a 74. I agree, scouts are basically bulletproof. Especially the 345. Mine came with a 345 but in 1979 the owners took it back to International and got a performance 392 put in it, and a shift kit in the transmission. 6 mpg but it gets up and moves. IH Scouts forever
The gas crunch hit, and the old timers in charge at the time freaked out and off loaded the platform..... My 77 SS2 is a tractor that never let's me down....
I love how in vintage 4x4 advertisements they always haul ass over obstacles!
rattler AR15 specially with those old suspensions

They were one of the best work horses of that time. They were so well known that they were copyed.
Yes and now that copy is coming back.
Copied
Meet the bronco?
wild commercial. insane sidehilling. the key verbiage "smart to be seen in". the birth of the SUV.
I see where Valve got the idea for the "Meet the" cards...
maybe even whole idea of meet the team
I have such a soft spot for these. Growing up my father had a 79', which then was near new, that he used as a daily driver and a 64' used as a hunting and camp vehicle. I loved those things.
Very cool! If you have any pics of that '64, I'd love to see them.
Thanks for this bit of Australian manufacturing history and marketing.

Thanks nice to hear that information!
"Meet the scout" I can't unhear it
Bring this vehicle back please. Simple and robust.
No wonder it's so smart to be seen in - it's got those "widely-spaced headlights" that Jeeps and Land Rovers don't!

Sure miss mine. I know for a fact it'd climb a wall. I think my dad is driving it in Heaven.
🤗
Sorry for your loss. Both of them. 🤗
I am getting a pair of these cheap, and soon! Going to be FUN !!! :)
No frills, just a great dependable work horse of a vehicle.
That intro card looks familiar.... Like I should be seeing a pompous Boston boy walking on screen
I remember when the USPS used these as their main delivery vehicles
I love ‘em ! I’ve got a 67, and 74.
Meet the international rust bucket!
My uncle had an early 70's Scout and the light blue paint and rust are the two things I remember about it.
Great commercial✍🏽
"Smart to be seen in"..love it.
Anything Scout '72 LS Swap
I have the same truck
what id do to get my 79 and 76 scout back
I've got a 67, and 74. What exactly gives them such good traction ?
This Scout likely assembled in the Australian IHC factory at either Geelong or Dandenong in Victoria.

Ford really ripped this commercial off 😂
My uncle has like 5 of them in his backyard just rotting aways, makes me sad to see rot and he always says that he is going to make one run and sell it
Desmond moonbear man, I would be begging to get a chance to buy at least one off him.
Sounds like they hired a cartoon character to narrate this ...
This was recorded in 1962, for the Australian market. What do you expect?
I noticed the steering wheel on the right and wondered.
1:41 You can GO ANYWHERE DO ANYTHING
What happened at 1:19?
Are you referring to the different wheel? The Scout is pulling a trailer. You can see its shadow at 1:14.

seen a yellow one in Mexico
6 speed??
3 spd. Hi and lo range
80 mph ? i barely got mine up to 50 ,going down hill, but that's fast enough for me
probably Kilimeters per hour since its in Austrailia .
My stock 196ci 4speed '69 goes 80mph, so I second the claim. You become much lighter when you throw caution to the wind, my friend.

Think Australia would have standardised on the six cylinder truck engines for local production.
They go 80 mph when dropped out of a plane. It's called terminal velocity!!
Was just given a Scout and know NOTHING about them.

I hope you keep it
Do your research and Keep it, I have a 1962 scout 80 I'm restoring to original condition, I've been working on it for the last 21 years
Sell it!! They are a nightmare to work on and finding parts is even worse!!!
IH Red Power!💪👍
Meet the scout! It’s kind of a big deal
Gear valve timing! Not chain!!
if they are so good why dont they keep making them like this you know how many sales there would be on these
STUP1D G4MERT4G Cause they all rusted away before they got to the dealers!
they really didn't have that bad sales, they even planned on making them int the 80s, but instead focused on commercial vehicles
