  • 40 per cent of European GAA membership is non-Irish and areas like Brittany and Galicia are growing all the time. Many of them travelled to Maastricht at the weekend to take part in the Croke Park European Finals, which had 50 teams from 16 countries.
'This is one of the great stories about European GAA, the fact that it’s becoming more and more international', says Tony Bass, Chairperson of Gaelic Games Europe. 'We have so many more players who have never set foot in Ireland but love Gaelic games'.
Other interviewees in this GAA.ie report are from the Slovak Shamrocks, Lille, Rennes and Irmandinhos (Galicia).

I can see Galicia competing like New York in the All-Ireland around 15 years from now. In 2012, they only had 2 official gaelic football clubs, now they are up to 16 official clubs and have another league of unofficial clubs (mixed male/female) which has 10 clubs. There is also a Galician exiles team based in Barcelona. They are really serious about expanding the game over there.
