As always, my wife and I enjoyed the review. Katie, you were a welcome addition! I will say that for lots of folks a trip to Disney World is a special occasion. After this review of the Millionaire Cake we are considering a trip to “the bubble” for a weekend (no parks) just food and plan to make a visit to the cake shop…we intend to share…
So The Cake Bake Shop has ridiculously high prices and Disney yells at them and they lower their prices…. In the mean time guests are complaining about Disney’s ridiculously high prices and Disney just goes and raises their prices higher?! Go figure! 🙄
While I'm happy to see the shop is opening, I will not be a future customer upon my next visit. The food looks interesting and tasty but prices are beyond my reasonable spending. I have access to some wonderful bakeries in the SF Bay Area and I've never paid that much for a dessert. Thanks for the review!
The millionaires cake reaction is absolutely hilarious! You can see how reluctant you are to say it's good but you can't help yourselves and it's like something out of a comedy film. Really made me laugh
A nonedible fake flower on a 25$ cake slice is the biggest crime. No one there capable of making icing roses? A real rose would actually be preferable to that cheap plastic flower from a craft store.
Hope you didn't price like most are these days... ouch. I can't even get cake any more except when it comes via the food pantry. But LET THEM EAT CAKE eh?
Used to live in Carmel where the Cake Bake Shop is. Really love the atmosphere and cute for a special occasion. They do a pixie dust wish for kids which is super cute. The cake is amazing and in Indiana at least more affordable cake is around $15 to $20 which is what it should be there, but you know Disney prices I guess. Wouldn't go out of your way for it but really good cake to try and share if you have a chance. Honestly never had dry cake there so think it's just the opening. Never had a bad cake there. Would say though if spending that type of money eat there as much about the ambiance as the cake.
Love the IT Crowd !! I did watch Hogan's Heroes too, but probably as re-runs. The cakes look good, but are very, very expensive, but gluten free too! YAY!
The desserts do look decent, but I’m perfectly happy with getting some Gideons cookies. That said, haven’t been to Disney Springs since Summer House on the Lake opened, so I will have to try their bakery offerings when I go back.
Tom has a new sign-off: "I'm the youngest mentally". I like it, Tom. Some funny moments in this episode, including many with Tom expressing self-loathing. Grumpy Tom is real, anyway. Ok, the prices are outlandish at this place, but this review has convinced me to go there next visit and split a piece of the Millionaire's Cake with company.
I'm here for Tom mentioning at least one very old sitcom or commercial. I appreciate the review and will definitely choose somewhere else for a special occasion dessert.
I’m with you-rather have a plated, fresh dessert at the end of a nice meal experience than an extra expensive dessert stuck to paper, boxed, bagged, and transported in the heat to eat later.
Hold the phone... The one cake had a fabric flower on it?!? For that price, it should have been a frosting or sugar flower...all edible. What the h*ll? This is supposed to be high end.
26:20 oddly enough I know the video you're referring to. It was Jeb Brooks from Greener Grass and they were at LAX taking a Spirit flight. Fantastic creators who do a solid job. Much like yourself, thanks for the review as always. Definitely going to save the money for use elsewhere.
Cake overall has just gotten too expensive. I mean going to the local supermarket to pick up a cake was always the more expensive option than just making it yourself if you aren't paying yourself for making it... BUT I mean a slab cake with basic HAPPY BURFDAY misspelled on it accidentally shouldn't cost more than 10 bucks, even in this economy. FOR THE WHOLE SLAB CAKE, but to see them hitting 20 or more dollars!?!?! and it's mostly printed graphics now so someone just makes a few clicks or button presses and poof? 20 BUCKS? (or even much higher than that)... and then to hear IT'S OVER 20 BUCKS FOR A SLICE (admittedly big slice) !?!? What the actual FUDGE is going on here? Greed in it's worst form! I also wonder if they should be reported to the BBB for gouging! But then some people will pay it, so is it? hmmm It is on Disney Property as well sooooo, there's the Diz tax on that...
The Glass knife in Winter Park is way better and a fraction of the cost. Plus the experience eating there is amazing. Whenever we are in town we go there and The Briar Patch. Both are fantastic!
Disregarding prices…do you think these cakes beat the 7 layer cake served at the top of the world (atVillains Lair) ? I am excited to try these in the next few years. Let’s say…..
We will be there in February for my birthday. I'll have between now and then to decide if I really want to take out a home equity loan to eat there! lol
Thank you, Tom, for doing God’s good work and correcting her on the pronunciation of Reese’s. People who say “Reesie’s” drive me crazy. There’s a reason they named them Reese’s Pieces. It rhymes.
I’ll take a huge $12 slice of Gideon’s any day. These are tiny in comparison and look meh. I’m a home baker and I have a feeling I could recreate these for a small fraction of the price with high quality ingredients. I was so excited for a new cake shop and this is a letdown. I won’t be wasting my money here. Love you, Gideon’s! ❤
I guarantee you all their cakes taste better than what you get at the Boathouse. I’ve had at least 4 different kinds at Cake Bake shop and they are all excellent
@@jeffbostock5820 I don't make fun of anyone for the money they make but ... I will make some comedy here: ehehem...: S'ils n'ont pas de pain, qu'ils mangent donc de la brioche! ((did I get that right? (any french speakers out there)))
Good lord...I LOVE cake and desserts but NO THANK YOU EVER! I have had pastries that are more beautiful and taste gorgeous (and in bougie areas) that cost MUCH less. When I go back, I'll be happy sticking to Gideon's cake slices, 7/7 or not...
I think the major issue with how these look is they all need refrigeration or they melt. I love peanut butter pie and get it from a local mom and pop restaurant. If I take it to go, it's super melted when I get home; but if I eat it at the restaurant it's really good.
Brave move to take a bakery from flyover Indiana (sorry!) and insert it into Disney World. Wonder if the Disney biz dev team that courted Gideons got overly ballsy with this project? This place would get eaten alive by any decent Italian Bakery and die a miserable death in a strip mall here on Long Island. Thanks for the review!
Will say that each slice was massive. If shared the price per person seems more reasonable. Just silly you can't get half that slice for 12 bucks. And still doesn't justify the friggin egg sandwhich
I was amused by this. I don’t normally watch food reviews. Tom’s look when Katie said Reese’s incorrectly😂 and then a minute later - Katie “the chocolate on the top is really good”…Tom “it better be she talked about it 8 times” (in the description) 😂😂😂
I have to say that I would never have paid those prices for a slice of cake. That being said, after watching this review I would and most likely will buy a slice of that Millionaires Cake!
Why would you not want to like them? Disney now offers the basic to the swanky and everywhere in between-and I'm loving that. Mk is the park of my youth, but unfortunately the one with the least culinary pleasures. We find ourselves always looking for the place that's offering something unique. I went in IN-it was worth every penny-and I'll be here for sure! No one is forcing anyone to eat ANYWHERE so we can really just relax...
It seems that they could up their game on the To Go packaging. The boxes they use are no better than my local mom and pop bakery box. The forks and spoons should be a nicer bamboo or (if they must) heavier plastic. Also the napkins, nicer. The cake slices should be on a foiled cardboard disc or tray to slide it out of the box easier as a serving platter. The box itself should be a thicker cardboard with stickers or a ribbon to have it just easily lay open for eating while standing around. These things all exist for other posh bakeries, so they just need to do it.
I heard that “List of Jericho” reference Tom. That’s 3 wrestling comments in one video about $20+ cake. And you actually became a little cooler in my book Tom. As someone also watching a $20+ Disney cake video. Also born in New York and a wrestling fan from the age of 6 and who made the annual east coast expedition to Florida and Disney of course.
I honestly think that this very highbrow offering will fit in fine here--surrounded by SIX Deluxe resorts, including the Swan/Dolphin cluster. What's the average cost for those rooms? $550? $600? If you pay that much for a hotel room per night for a week, $25 for a cake is not that bad. The descriptions sound like Remy on the cruise ships, don't they?
Another reason I love Tom...throws in a Goldust reference and a sly follow up line. Good to know he didn't stutter. The deadpan "You mean Reese's" had me literally LOL
Even with the price reductions it’s still nuts, especially given its out of the way location and competition from less pricey venues at WDW like Gideon’s. I quit Ghiradelli when their sundaes shrunk and went up to $14 (now more) and found sundaes at other locations cost less and still offered peanut butter. At least Ghiradelli is accessible to all vs Cake’s boardwalk location that requires Epcot exit or transfer from a resort if you don’t have a car. I wanted to try a Cake Bake slice, but not sure I can swallow their price on principal.
I live by the original store in Indiana, and all of those are about $7 more a slice than we pay here, so that sounds like a proper Disney tax. Look up Cake Bake Broad Ripple Indiana if you want to compare. They actually are really good and worth it at $16. I also did get a whole cake for my birthday in 2020 because we weren't doing anything else b/c of the plague. Worth it.
We live in the next town over from Carmel, IN where one of the cake shops is. No, I've never been, nor do I want to. Not in the mood for a second mortgage😂😂😂
Used to live in Broad Ripple... Very nice atmosphere, service was fine... But it's not cheap. I can see where the restaurant fits into the Disney ambiance, though. And the prices should be no surprise for anyone visiting Disney these days. Seems like it's only getting worse.
I have been to one but the prices were nearly half this. We never would have gone if they were this high. It was expensive enough as it is. You can also order online for around half the price of Disney🤷
But you're gotta remember that Tom is the same guy who said if you can't afford a few more bucks for a dinner at Cinderellas Castle or a couple hundred more bucks for an annual pass then maybe you shouldn't be going to Disney....
I live in Southern Indiana. We went to the shop in Carmel. It was a nice experience. Everything was good. We probably won’t go again. But I’m glad we went. We enjoy the Christkindlmarkt in Carmel. So some tourists might enjoy going to Cake Bake while in the area.
You should go. Its great. And a piece of that cake in Indy is $16. Don’t get food though! Just get the desserts. The cake tastes nothing like this silly host says. He’s was never going to give a good review based solely on the price.
This dessert place is par for the course considering where it’s located. High priced in the heart of a deluxe/dvc area. Add to the fact Disney raised priced across the board and then adds a a $450 Lightning Lane option targeted at deluxe/dvc guests, then this place makes sense. This place would flop in All Stars area.
Even before your reviews, I’m still going to be a hard pass. Refuse to pay that much $$ for cake slices. Also, never been to Gideon’s and never will. Refuse to wait that long for a slice….Thanks anyway! Love your reviews Tom!
Unless they changed the recipe down there, I think the messier cakes must have been in a hot car for too long. I live in St Louis, which is about a 4 hour drive from Indy, where they’re based. I’ve bought that before on my way out of town and the cake looked fine when I got home. But you need to keep it cool. Put it under an A/C vent if you need to. I also put leftover cake in the fridge. They also have some seasonal cakes which are well worth a try, in particular one with pumpkin and chocolate. Delicious!
Gotta love how “lowering prices” means you spend, like, $86 instead of $93 for four slices of cake/pie (assuming the total was calculated at those incorrect OG prices too) Totally reasonable 😂
🤣 "Damn! I wanted to be meaner!" Aww, poor Tom. It's ok, we still love you.
You guys lift my mood so much! I have been so depressed since losing my Mom. We both loved Disney so much. Thank you for making me laugh.
Thank you for spending $93.66 so i dont have to !
Seriously. I know I won't be frequenting that place.
I’m in the demographic who watches WWE and would try the Cake Bake Shop. 😂😂
Just when you thought mouse ears have become expensive, cake slices enter the arena. 😂

10/10, after that review I would love a slice of the millionaire cake - value is relative - because this is an experience
I’m glad I’ve been a pastry chef for twenty years and can make any dessert I want for way cheaper
Hope you didn't price like most are these days... ouch. I can't even get cake any more except when it comes via the food pantry. But LET THEM EAT CAKE eh?
I assume the peanut butter pie was meant to be served cold and the delay in eating it didnt help-it would seem thinner when it gets to room temp.
No Disney UA-cam channel has ever dropped that amount of wrestling references in a $93 cake review! I love it! Lol!
Years ago we went to one that was in Ferry Building, I can’t remember the name but damn it was good!
$3 to look, $5 to smell, $24 to taste, memories of debt…. PRICELESS!!!😂😂
Good to see you Katie!
Didn’t know her but dirty Gertie comment . Instant fan 😂👏🏼👏🏼
I love the Gwendolyn Christie “oooops”. In real life that would be amazing
I definitely would buy a piece of millionaire cake. I can see you guys really love it. I enjoy trying new food, as least once, each time I visit WDW.
