Ooof that last match was close! Interesting to watch the blastoise / chatot combo in gameplay
@@kalilyn that it was…especially after my luck with misty in these matches 😂… you should try it lol it’s fun…. Even more so when misty actually hits lol
This strategy is pretty clever! I’ve adjusted it for the new expansion by adding tools to use when available instead of wasting fossils. I recommend 2 fossils and 2 tools, though you might get away with 4 tools. I stick with 2 because sometimes there aren’t enough Pokémon to attach them to, forcing the card back into the deck. The fossils help with consistency. This deck plays fast, aiming to set up quickly. Instead of Blastoise (which risks losing to a single Chatot/fossil KO), I’m using Empoleon for its 80 direct damage and 30 to the bench-great for disrupting the opponent’s strategy.
That makes a lot of sense. I have been play testing a prototype which utilizes communication and rocky with 2 fossils. Currently still working out the kinks. Sometimes I have to also equip the chatot because I have dupe tools. When it works, it works, but when it bricks….. rip lol😅 since Blastoise has 180 HP I have been debating between Rocky and cape. However, for anything that doesn’t have as much HP I would say that Cape may be the answer. Maybe one of each would be the answer? Cape for the bird; helmet for the turtle.
Umpoleon: once online, it is essentially a better Articuno. With a little bit of HP from cape and access to Cyrus it could be devastating. I’ll definitely have to try it out.
What do you think about Umpoleon/ manaphy/ double cape and cirus in its own build?
@@ProfessorPocketTCG I spent all day testing different versions of the Chatot deck and found Empoleon and Blastoise to be about equal. Empoleon enables a strong double Stage 2 setup with bench pressure, while Blastoise is powerful if you can set up the 160 Hydro Bazooka, especially with Rocky Helmet ensuring key knockouts. However, the deck needs to be played differently depending on which you prioritize.
Key takeaways:
- Only 1 Fossil is needed for deck thinning or tanking a hit.
- Only 1 X Speed since Blastoise must secure a KO every turn he is up or you lose to damage after your 3rd attack. It's ok to waste Xspeed from hand to thin deck, use judgement.
- Chatot can be played twice but you don’t want 4 Pokémon on the field-either focus on 1 Blastoise with Chatot bait or go all-in on 2 Blastoise if Misty setup is strong.
- A single Potion helps Chatot or Blastoise survive crucial turns.
- Rocky Helmet is the best tool, as it helps set up knockouts efficiently.
- There is an argument to be made for Cape in the Empoleon version of the deck, I would possibly give up potion for it.
As for Manaphy, I don’t think it’s better than Chatot for Stage 2 decks but I’d consider testing one. Not sure if I'd replace a Chatot or the Fossil, but maintaining three Pokémon and a Fossil is ideal. If Manaphy helps set up Chatot and Squirtle in one turn, I’d be open to it, but deck thinning is the priority.
I’ve tested Garchomp, Gallade, Venusaur, and Rhyperior, but nothing feels as consistent as Water decks due to Misty accelerating the win condition.
This is one of the most fun and well-paced decks for the Pocket format-I’ll never delete it, just keep refining it!
