Is this guy a veteran or a civilian cart owner leaching off of protected veterans license? 🤔 How could he have owned so many carts, 499 in 1990? He has a sticker on his cart that reads Sgt David Gonzales USMC Killed In Action 3/21/1970. So he’s not David Gonzales. Who is this vendor? If he’s a veteran, I’m Glad to see he survived Donald Trump’s early 90’s mischief. In early 90’s Trump lobbied local politicians to ban street vendors - including those with special disabled veteran’s licenses - from operating on Fifth Avenue, where Trump Tower is located. Look it up. You’ll find this. They are as much a part of the New York City landscape as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Times Square. But the presence of street vendors along New York City’s posh Fifth Avenue corridor gave Donald Trump heartburn in the early 1990s. Back then, he, along with other local business leaders, urged city and state officials to restrict vendor access to Fifth Avenue, including the space in front of Trump Tower. One target of his lobbying efforts included a special class of business operators: disabled veteran street vendors. “While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?” Trump wrote in a 1991 letter obtained by the New York Daily News. “Do we allow Fifth Ave., one of the world’s finest and most luxurious shopping districts, to be turned into an outdoor flea market, clogging and seriously downgrading the area?” The fight went back to an 19th-century law that gave every veteran in New York the right to “hawk, peddle and vend any goods, wares or merchandise” throughout the state. Designed to create economic opportunities for Civil War veterans, the law has been amended a number of times at various state and city levels. Advocacy groups say what remains today is an overly complicated legal system that has, in fact, discouraged veterans from obtaining this protected license. Of New York City’s 2,555 general vendor licenses, only 105-and only those held by disabled veterans-permit work in the so-called "midtown core," a restricted zone created in the 1990s in part to respond to lobbying efforts of the Fifth Avenue Association. It’s a flawed process, veteran street vendors say. Not only is the number too low, but it has led to abuse of some disabled veterans through corruptive “rent-a-vet” schemes where civilian operators pay veterans to use their licenses in this prized area. Not surprising how a POS like Chump brings out other POS in his circle.
@@bdog0720 ok we get. You hate trump and blame him for everything. Get a life. And yea nobody wants pushy street vendors clogging up the streets. @@jasonlacroix6083 I didn’t leave the comment, but yes. Definitely. The salad will go great with the mush that resides where your brain once sat
That's a healthy, realistic and honest entrepreneur.
“Enough to live on 5th Ave. humble and hardworking ❤️
World needs more of this man, i hope his family deserves him.
Honestly what a soulful man. Cares entirely for family
That is a true family man right there! Humble, respectful, selfless, and always looking out for his people
This is the most selfless humble great man I’ve ever seen! So glad he’s making that much money.!!
God bless this precious man and his family.
That's a real family man, protect this dude at all costs
One of the only honest people you’ve interviewed 😂
how is this guy so wholesome jesus
thats a hero, selfless, honest, looks like an amazing dad
That’s a good man and good father
Thats a real New Yorker right there. Grinding to provide for his family. My hat goes off to him
By the 90s, he had 499 of these carts and he STILL hasnt been able to buy a home for himself or his family?
Dude. He must be the worst businessman in the history of New York.
@@captain_context9991 are you really this dense? Did you miss the part where he said he lives in a van so his FAMILY can have what they need?
@@eggrolll
No, I realise this is almost impossible to explain to Americans...
I just find it weird how this entire comment field is glorifying the grift, the grind, the "journey" and the hustle. While in actual fact. The dude is homeless.
If he was smart, at ANY POINT in the last 40 years. While it was actually possible to buy a home on a normal job, and have it paid down by now, and have bought another one... Then he would have done precisely that.
What is it with this love of "the struggle" The dude is sleeping on the same 10 squarefeet he is working on alongside with his grown-ass daughter, you muppet.
What is it you are seeing here that Im not?
This is a true man among men. Respect 💪💪💪
Props to this man! Always keeping his family first, making sure their needs are met before his own 👏🏼👏🏼 true man!!
Now that’s a real man guys, pay attention. He’s living on the bare minimum to leave this world better for his children then when he got here and that’s real generational wealth.

😂😂😂 yeah or no other choice. He could have done anything
@@thevideo7470he could be balling rn he already raised his kids
That’s a real man huh? I think that might be opinion based. No real man wants to live like this
Now that’s a genuine fella ❤
then why cops will arrest him then ?
@@ko-Daegu You can’t just set up a business on the sidewalk. Obviously they gave him a break at some point or he did get his papers in order to street vend.. Remember everything on this planet is all about the dollars. When they notice he was selling a thousand dogs a day they wanted a bit of that pie or hotdog 🤣
You guys are one of the main reasons I used to come to New York
I’ve walked passed this dudes stand so many times, didn’t know he was a legend 💪🏼
This is awesome man. This man is doing everything for others taking very little (next to nothing) for himself. This makes me happy, thanks for sharing!
He has a good heart. If big business wasn’t greedy, who knows what this world would be.
The fact that he would rather live in a van so his family is happy is so wholesome, heartwarming and a great example of what love and being a man👌🏼🙏🏼
He’s pretending he’s struggling because he doesn’t pay tax dudes a scammer.
@@Bando-fx4mf that’s not scam 🤣
@@Bando-fx4mf taxation is theft and you sound like a politician!!!!
SECURITY!, TOO MUCH INFO FOR HIS SAFETY,...the criminal element w/bad intentions thinking he has $$$ in his van/himself, big payday crime, SECURITY!
Best part about this is he is probably as happy as can be living the way he does. Providing is all a father wants to so
that man is an absolute gift to this world
Nobody more humble a true family man.
Definition of a true gentleman. The world needs more of you good sir.
Poor guy, yet one of the most respectable guys I have seen
This man has my utmost respect
New Yorkers pull your weight and support this man. He’s the embodiment of true family values
Thanks Dad

He seems like a genuinely good guy
this man is a legend and inspiration
Everybody’s gotta eat! Real man right there
That’s a real family man, a real New Yorker 🙌🙌
Exactly my success will be my whole families success! I am my brothers keeper. Forever always no matter what!
Been selling hot dogs for 40 years. And out of 499 carts, 2 of them bring in $400k and he lives in his van so he can pay his daughters? They should all have a house
Bro taxs are a high for owners and its a lot of vendor fees to pay yearly
He lives in his van so that he doesn’t have to move those 2 carts which are in prime position in the city.
If there’s not someone there with the carts at all times they can be towed away and someone else could set up shop there.
He should jist hire someone to babysit carts
@@Red-ju4mi if he hired someone at $25 an hour (not including health insurance etc) $25x24= $600x365=$219,000 a year,
My whole point is its kinda scummy to trap the best foodtruck spot in town because of a technicality, but because its new york and he’s been doing it for 35 years its tradition
499 licensed hot dog carts in the city. He owns two. The license costs 400k a year. He probably makes 150k profit a year
This man has the biggest heart in the world. Wish there were more people like him. 👍
I’ve seen y’all so much and the one time I was in NYC I actually got a dog from y’all, but I just have the upmost respect for y’all and just keep on being the best!!! Thank y’all for your service!!!
This is a respectable man.
What an amazing dad! I want to go to NY just to support. He’s supporting everyone and living in a van. I know they work along side him but his was his goal and dream that is carrying his and two daughters families. Man of the year!!!❤
The daughters husband's should sleep in the Van. Give this old man a break....
This man is the definition of a provider and a father. I love it
the most humble dude God bless you Sir!
He's working so hard for his older children says alot about this amazing man!! Most parents think there job is done once they barley get you through high school. Bravo to him. Hope his kids appreciate his dedication.
Wow this is what a father is.. Salute that man sacrificing for his family he chose to create.. Bless

That’s a real man right there he puts his family first
A true hard working committed family man. Respect
Ultimate props to this gentleman. Working hard and living a humble life. Certainly he earned and deserves a retirement. Next time I’m in NY, I’m having a hot dog in his honor! Then, I’m going to visit other street vendors who are also trying to make a similar living. Thank you for working so hard and setting an example for others.
Wish him a long and happy life! That's what a real man is.
He seems genuinely happy, much respect to this guy
That’s a real man, and clearly a great father. May all the great fathers get the respect and love they deserve. Like my father, a great hard working man. Bless up to all the good dads who do whatever they can for their families
