That was great! I'm way too young to remember any of this but it very educational and now I think I need to watch all the Twilight's Zone episodes I can. I've only seen two: the one where Timmy sends all the people to the cornfield and the amazing overdramatic William Shatner in the airplane with the gremlin on the wing. Thank you for this. 💜
Monsters Due on Maple Street: very relevant to this day. The Obsolete Man: it is anti communist/fascist story. Rod Serling was a World War 2 Vet. His experience in the war influenced his writings. Midnight Sun: It had nothing to do with climate change. Please remember back in the sixties the term climate change was unheard of. Don't not read too much into Midnight Sun. It's just a very good sci-fi story with a twist ending.
I never heard of Fascist governments saying jobs are obsolete and Bible is banned, but in Israel, they harm Christians and violently remove people and put out videos of their atrocities.
Twilight Zone is one of my all-time favorite anthology programs. Rod Serling was a literary genius and my admiration and respect for him are boundless. But, as you say, he's not a prophet, but it is fun to speculate. He's not a prophet because none of the episodes mentioned predict the future. Like all good science fiction, The Twilight Zone episodes were socio-political commentaries on CURRENT events, NOT predictions of future events, in the same way Nostradamus' prophecies were not predictions of future events, but commentary on current events. Which only goes to prove that people in the 1960s were dealing with the same issues we deal with today. Surprising that you didn't mention the one TZ episode that comes to mind that WAS a prediction of the future: "No 12 Looks Just Like You." Oh, they didn't quite get the clothing or the furnishings right - women aren't walking around in skin-tight unitards (although leggings are close) and Swedish Modern furniture didn't last much beyond the 1970s, the increase in narcissism, materialism, shallow desires based upon popular consumer products (Instant Smile), and the drive to mass consumption and conformity - Rod hit the nail on the head. Go back and watch it again and see if you don't agree.
No. 12 is one of my favorite episodes. It is essentially a retelling of Eye of the Beholder from a different perspective, but I always liked it better. It seems to get overlooked a little too much in my opinion in favor of EotB.
If it got hotter, than means more plants will grow and quicker. Winter will be shorter and animals and nature won't be retreating, so you have more wildlife to hunt. More food and a case of swamp butt.
Thing is, while the method and medium through which Rod delivered those tales was unique, the stories and themes themselves weren’t. In fact, many of the screen plays, like Time Enough at Last, were adaptations of other stories already published. And even those stories weren’t unique to then or now. The human condition throughout history is rife with violence, paranoia, and tribalism and that was reflected in many forms of story telling.
He knew about the Space Ship Crash in Cape Girardeau Missouri in 1941 then Roswell in the 50's. People ate that stuff up. I'm not sure either they made a large leap from Vacuum tubes to integrated circuits in a short period of time.???
From tubes to transistors. Then, the miniaturization of transistors, their integration into printed circuits, and then the miniaturization of printed circuits!
There is nothing prophetic about any of this. He just had insights into human nature. This is poorly conceived and is the sort of thing that helps promote conspiracy theories.
Books are banned all over for different reasons and for different age groups. And the word banned is a bit strong. Restricted is more accurate. There are no books absolutely banned in the US.
Removing adult themed books from childrens libraries is not book banning. You should try investigating some of the books removed from schools. Any normal person can see that it is not child appropriate material.

He may not have known about future technology, but he sure knew about the Human condition.
Obsolete Man: What every Gov't is striving to achieve at this very moment.
Let's just hope "To Serve Man" is NOT a Prophecy...!!
I saw all of these when they were new. Yes, I'm old. Loved the show.
Rod SErling was a master at shocking us with the truth about the human condition.

Well, to be fair: The Sun IS a Star. You know what happens to those over time, yes...?
In a couple million years, the sun will expand and obliterate the inner planets.@@ovormotssetgetsiin6359
Thing is, the Earth's orbit had changed, moving the planet closer to the sun. 21st century climate change has nothing to do with that.

I wondered why that episode wasn’t included myself.

RS was a genius and a great man.
The twist ending to Midnight Sun is that the Earth is actually getting colder not hotter. Predicting....?

Yep he was including his own bias here.
@@nunyabeeswax3936 He seems to have missed the fact that, in the story, Earth had moved out of it's orbit. As you said, his bias is showing.
We are actually in the interglacial period of an Ice Age, since about 10,000 BC.
I watched the Twilight Zone the first time around 😊
Me too!
I watched it, along with Outer Limits, as a child. I loved both TV shows very much!
Perfect😁...i really love your Channel! Greetings from Austria🇦🇹
Television writers today don't hold a candle to Sterling and his peers.
How He Man Changed The Rules For Saturday Morning cartoons
Arguably, the best TV show ever produced. How ironic, Burgess Meredith plays a Librarian without books.
Serlng liked working with Burgess Meredith. He appeared in Four Episodes of Twilight Zone.
7:44 - Greetings from planet Pfizer.
A cure for cancer - but not if you have no health insurance.
The midnight sun was not about climate change she had a high fever and was delusional, waking at the end to realize it is actually winter.....
I'm surpise that Maple Street hasn't been turned into a feature length film
That would be a good idea, though "dark". Maybe you can work on the movie, yourself.
"Henry Bemis a rather bookish man......" Rod Serling

Not at all prophetic. Just insightful. Serling knew how to tap into the human condition.
He was predicting Fox News back then! Haha!

Great upload.
One of his best work's was known as Death's Head Revisited.....
How could you leave out "Number 12 Looks Just Like You" ???
One of, if not the most prophetic episodes of our current condition.
True. I may have to revisit this question. 🤔
He didn't write all the scripts.
Thanks Rich.
Yes.
How are these predictions?
Watch "Number 12 Looks Just Like You" and you'll see a very scary and real prediction.
Banning books, so far only in fascist Florida and Texas....hopefully that madness doesn't spread much further!

While he was an excellent writer, I shudder to think his stories will come true! 🫣
We're definitely heading towards the Future Depicted in the Obsolete Man.
