A friend of mine was driving on a long two-lane highway at night (pitch dark). A young woman waived him down for help. He stopped, but instead of letting her in, he asked if he could call someone for her. He noticed a guy sneaking toward his driver-side window from the sideview mirror. My friend floored it with both of the people screaming and cursing after him. He knew that happened out there and knew he shouldn’t have stopped.
@@MatthewDRobles unfortunately, there’s terrible assholes out there who will take advantage of nice people stopping to help someone stranded on the side of the road
@@MatthewDRobles thing is, if you haven't seen or heard of this kind of thing in your area by now, its good to "fish" around and stop AND pay attention to your surroundings for anything suspicious they act quickly so it won't take long just a brief pause before flooring it. If you just drive by you never know if they needed help or were bad guys trying to car jack you. Once you know its happening in your area for real, you bring more protection with you. Someone might be stranded from being car jacked, they might need help they would want to call somebody. If you find this too much to handle then just don't travel alone. Wild West is back.
never stop. some variation of this is also sometimes practiced in Europe, mostly in non-EU Balkan countries. but here in Europe they actually will puncture your tire at a gas station (usually in the mountains, or in gas stations with bad lights), then they will follow you from afar. Once the tyre gets deflated and you stop, they jump you and rob either your belongings or take your car completely. 😊
It doesn't always help. Sometimes it's not clear if the person was just walking or jumped on purpose. So you need some on the sides too so it would be obvious to jury the person was standing there ready
Absolutely. In the heat of the moment, you aren't thinking "just fucking leave", you're either thinking "fuck I just hit them." or "FFS get off the fucking road you morons.", either way it increases your odds of getting into deeper trouble.
There was a guy in England who used to target roundabouts. He would drive into a roundabout and then suddenly break resulting in the driver behind him hitting him and then he would make an insurance claim. He picked a roundabout with no camera but his mistake was he did it too many times so the next time he did police checked for CCTV around the area and it turned out an office block near the roundabout had CCTV facing the road. He was found guilty and sent to prison for a couple of years and ordered to pay the money back.
Taking a deep breath before a hard impact like that is one of the stupidest things to do. Want to cause a REAL medical issue, a traumatic pneumothorax, that is a way to do it.
@@pear-zq1uj I assume once he got further down the road he phoned up the police and reported it himself to cover himself. Can't be done for hit and run at that point as he still reports at earliest opportunity and his reasoning his fear of his own safety.

My sister had a situation like this once. She fortunately had a dash cam to cover her tracks. Unfortunately for them, my sister also was looking at a sign at the time and hit the dude at full speed, partially paralyzing him from the neck down.
The scariest type of crime is that which uses the law against the victim... Hopefully this driver wasn't hit with Hit & Run charges for getting out of a dangerous situation
I think she was anticipating the ute going about 5km/h slower. The hit was bigger than she anticipated I'm sure of it. Even braced that would have hurt and could have done serious damage. We will never know.
this video has actually helped me understand to see warning signs for carjacking cause knowing me I would immediately step out to see if the person was okay 😭
Another thing to keep in mind, their has been a new trend from criminals on causing a minor fender bender. When the victim steps out to exchange info and assess the damages done to their vehicle, criminals will proceed to do what they were originally going to do (kidnapping, murder, carjacking, r@pe, etc.). Stay safe out there and remember; always conceal carry, especially as a young, single (by yourself, not relationship) woman. May God be with you and have a nice day.
It may have been a carjacking, a shakedown for cash to not call cops, robbery or even kidnapping, luckily this driver was smart and got out of there. I would immediately call/drive straight to a police station, report it and supply a copy of the video in case those trash people try to report/sue.

When you slow the video down, you can see that she was hiding behind the sign and waiting for the vehicle to come around the corner before stopping in front of it and throwing herself onto the vehicle. Good job to the driver of processing the scam in real time.
You can also see the man on the sidewalk on the right. In the very beginning, you can see her walking from right to left, stopping at the sign, and then running in front of the truck.
How could you not? It's so overacted, there's also a second person literally in the middle of nowhere that reacts immediately like a drama student with a well practiced script, and the 'impact' happened at 0-5 mph, basically a standstill, and she literally tackled the car to try make it seem worse...
It blows my mind knowing that people are still doing this even though they know that most people have dashcams these days but the high risk of prosecution doesn’t deter them
The dumbest thing is that even if the driver had hit them, given its on a dark road, they’d never be held at fault or be able to be sued directly under Australian law anyway - they’d be trying to sue the Insurance company - good luck with that - they would need to prove the driver was doing something wrong, not the other way around - this ain’t Murica folks, you can’t just sue anyone for anything at any time - very different here.
Well, as someone in the US and has served on FIVE Juries I can only say: "Anybody can file a lawsuit for any reason at any time. BUT WINNING That lawsuit is an entirely different matter"! Two were cases where an elderly woman got into a minor traffic accident and suddenly saw $$$$ signs in their eyes! For some unknown reason ALL of their pre-existing medical conditions were caused by those "incidents". Both lost.
Oh you can sue all you want here if you have the money, chances are the judge will dismiss it as frivolous and make you pay the defendant and the courts for wasting their time so nobody intelligent tries it.
These scams are not about being able to sue. That takes too long, leaves a paper trail, is expensive and makes it more likely you will get caught. Instead the guy would have been videoing from slightly behind so it would look like you did hit them. Then when you stop, they blackmail you into paying them on the spot under the threat that they will send the video to the cops, and media and "you will be arrested".
Crazy! Driving off was probably a good idea given the number of cars stolen around SE Qld. these days. A good move would've been to park up further, call police and ambulance to attend and give police a copy of the dashcam footage. A accomplice was on scene to render "first aid".
After 3 times as an adult, penalty should double with each conviction. So by the time they're on their 9th go, they have the choice of stopping or going to prison for say 32 years. Either way no one will be a victim of them ever again.
I have a new add-on for cars from this incident. Pepper spray! Properly applied in instances like this, you look for bogans crying like crazy trying to get the burn to go away.
Yeah, no one willingly throws themselves into an oncoming vehicle unless there’s some shady shit going on. Glad the driver assessed the situation and noped out of there quickly
Makes you wonder if these people ever get away with this shit if the car doesn’t have a dash cam. Thankfully they’re so prevalent now these people get found out.
Without a dash cam it becomes your word vs theirs and potentially who has the best lawyer. That's why you get a dash cam. If the cops come knocking at DC owners front door asking about "a hit and run" they can show the footage.
@@SeAn-jd9cl If it is a scam then NEVER mention the dashcam. Let them make their fraudulent statements then get busted when you mic drop the footage to the police, and also avoiding being bashed or stabbed so they can get a hold of the camera or SD card that'll bring their scam undone. But if you read the description this was not a simple scam. This was a carjacking attempt or a gang ambush.
They're hoping whoever hits them is gullible and compassionate. Of course the most innocent people become the victims which makes these kinds of scum even worse. If I was in a dual cab, I'd just run em over and tell the cops "I thought I hit two wombats~ Wah wah~"
Like…I understand drivers will generally not want to hit a person…but what if they’re not paying attention…or worse…they intended to go full force, no brakes? Idk if that ever runs through these criminals minds. Like…whoops, that didn’t go according to planned. 😮
I like how you can see the girl's white shoes in the distance crossing the street, waiting by the street sign, and then abruptly & intentionally darting in front of a moving vehicle while keeping eyesight of the front end that she obviously throws her body against. Meanwhile on the right side of the crosswalk, a "bystander" happens to be walking nearby at just the right moment to see this all transpire in the dead of night. Great situational awareness! 👏
@@NoriMori1992 Start at the beginning and zoom in near the area of interest. Look for the whites of her shoes as she moves left (she's already halfway into the crosswalk when the clip starts), gets to the walkway by the sign, then waits for the 1st car to pass by before quickly placing herself in the crossing just as the 2nd car gets near. You'll also see the male "bystander" coming into view from the shadows between the streetlight and tree on the right side just as this vehicle comes off of the roundabout turn. Whether or not he was part of it is up for debate. As I've been warned, nothing good usually happens at night in the streets.
