What a favourite hymn of mine. Something to sing / listen to every now and then to remember Christ’s greatest suffering for us and also to remind ourselves to carry our cross daily till our Lord Jesus Christ Comes again!
The older hymns were sermons put to music. In a small town, a small church nearby...nearly shut in I cannot stay in full services at times...(rock'n roll and entertainment) little reverence, lots of foot stomping...sad. Thank you for this. I miss church but one cannot go if there is none.
Jesus is worshiped in all genres. Satan rejoices when one leaves God's church thus missing the Word by which we live. Reverence is a state of the heart and mind
Just beautiful ... It makes me travel through the time. In Rosario, Argentina, 40 years ago my father used to love singing this hymn: "En el monte calvario estaba una cruz, emblema de afrenta y dolor". My father passed away 2 years ago, I live in England and became atheist but I still love listening to the old hymns. Congratulations.
A beautiful song that seems to be the same hymn and tune no matter what Christian affiliation. This song brought me figuratively back to church when I was utterly lost spiritually.
On a hill far away, stood an old rugged Cross The emblem of suff'ring and shame And I love that old Cross where the dearest and best For a world of lost sinners was slain So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross Till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged Cross And exchange it some day for a crown Oh, that old rugged Cross so despised by the world Has a wondrous attraction for me For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above To bear it to dark Calvary So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross Till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged Cross And exchange it some day for a crown In the old rugged Cross, stain'd with blood so divine A wondrous beauty I see For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above To pardon and sanctify me So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross Till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged Cross And exchange it some day for a crown To the old rugged Cross, I will ever be true Its shame and reproach gladly bear Then He'll call me some day to my home far away Where his glory forever I'll share So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross Till my trophies at last I lay down I will cling to the old rugged Cross And exchange it some day for a crown
Why do people think that there is a need, or that they have a right, to mess around with other people's music? There is nothing wrong with the harmonies and style of the original hymn. This is grotesque in comparison and the unnecessary alterations to the harmonies are appalling.
@@laurencox1981 That's silly. I'm not denying God at all. I accept that beauty is in the eye (or ears) of the beholder (or listener) and that there may be those who find this arrangement somehow appealing, but my main point stands: if someone can write music then let them write their own rather than mucking about with someone else's.
This is the first song I listened to after I was saved and tears rolled down my cheek😭
Me too, still do.
Amen ! Cảm tạ ơn Chúa . Xin phước hạnh tuôn tràn trên bạn và gia đình bạn

for my grandmother I miss you everyday.
On a hill far away, stood an old rugged Cross
The emblem of suff'ring and shame
And I love that old Cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain
So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
Oh, that old rugged Cross so despised by the world
Has a wondrous attraction for me
For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary
So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
In the old rugged Cross, stain'd with blood so divine
A wondrous beauty I see
For the dear Lamb of God, left his Glory above
To pardon and sanctify me
So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown
To the old rugged Cross, I will ever be true
Its shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away
Where his glory forever I'll share
So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged Cross
And exchange it some day for a crown

How sad that you deny God, who has given the ability to another to write such a beautiful arrangement.
