She came in the house planning on “killing him” by breaking his heart. She walks around the house with the gun in her hand, which he perceives, but he is blinded by love so he ignores it. Meanwhile, she struggles when she first gets the gun and views pictures of their relationship, perhaps having second thoughts, but in the end she decides to go ahead with “killing him” and her smile before the act signifies that she is okay with it. In the end, even though all the signs were right in front of him, even until the moment before the bullet is fired, he failed to see what she planned to do. He may have sensed it, because he tilted his head slowly, but still love had him too blind to do anything to save himself. It was only at the end, when he viewed his “lifeless/loveless” body outside, did he realize what happened. That’s just my take though….
