If only there was video recording of this.
My favorite part of this performance has always been how at 5:12 they're playing "Dancing with a Moonlit Knight" and at 5:13 they're playing "The Musical Box." Flawless transition.
Phil is master of melodic music
Phil absolutely nails the vocals. So good!
Interesting transition between both songs. Daryl did a great job imitating Hackett style.
Brilliant David, always loved this, your versions always sound the best!
Thank you. I'm glad you like it 🎶🙂
These cats are pretty good.
😺😸😽😼😻
I hope they make it.
Wow , great performance and magic song mix. I usually don't like medleys very much but I have to admit this is a little masterpiece.
Interesting playing by Daryl! Love this
I hope all of personal Genesis are always fine, ok?.
👍👍
Did they do Selling England with Phil singing most of the song at any other shows?
Fortunately not.
Weird to hear Phil struggling with the high notes in the chorus. He usually hit the higher notes of the old Gabriel material live with more ease than Peter did, even compared to the original studio recordings.
Still I like this version since it has, in my opinion, a more satisfying ending than the album version. I was never crazy about how the original recording meanders at the end into the "Disney" 12 String bit. A monster track like Dancing With The Moonlit Knight should end with a bang, not a whimper.
The reason why Phil struggled with those high aggressive notes was because his singing style had been rather soft/cathedral up to 1980, so he couldn't fit with those parts in some songs made for Gabriel's edgier style. But he finally found his aggressive style trademark around 1980/1 and he would have been able to sing "Dancing..." better from then on.
@@landischorsch I considered that as a factor, but I felt like if he could credibly pull off the "666" part of Apocalypse in 9/8 around that period, he wouldn't have an issue with the Moonlit Knight chorus. Might've just been an off night?
These tracks were written with and for Peter, and you can clear understand why listening this version.
@lukaf2393 True, but again, Phil didn't struggle with other Gabriel era material around this period. Whether or not you like Phil's interpretations of the Peter songs, he consistently sang them without any hiccups.
Absolutely love Phil Collins over Gabriel anytime.
Good lord as always Phil out Gabrieled Gabriel!
Clean your ears.
@@josequiero1118phil has more lung power, peter has the grit
Amazing version, Phil made Genesis!
(In my opinion)
@@marcusbellbass1375 Peter , Tony, Mike and Anthony made Genesis.
Phil does all its best passionately but these legendary tracks were written with and for Peter.... almost unlistenable here. Good on the other hand the medley of the 2 masterpieces.
He's no Steve Hackett.
Of course not, he is Daryl Stuermer. And he doesn't pretend to be Steve Hackett.
Do not like stu guitar Hackett is better voice of Phil is smoother than Pet
