For why we call them world champions
1. Ego
2. I think it's somewhat justified since the money offered by the MLB, NBA and NFL is greater than any other professional league the quality of athletes is greater than other pro leagues. If you were to put the championship of the Nippon Professional Baseball into the MLB at best they might finish in the bottom middle of any division, no chance of winning one IMO.
For the record I call them NBA champs, Superbowl champs and World Series champs(the last one is because that's the name. Also Toranto Canada has won the World Series twice before so not just American teams. )

See i thought European football players (soccer) earned way more. But thank you I do find it interesting because I don’t live there so don’t know

@@DCReacts1984 I sure Soccer players earn more in Europe than MLS players do. I don't think I've ever heard the MLS champion referred to as world champions. . That would be wrong in my opinion. I was referring to the top 3 sports in America. Soccers following in the USA is no where close to to the rest of the world.
