- I have been working in the COVID-19 ICU in NYC, and have been washing my hair after each shift, losing sleep staying up to dry it (so I don't get sick since it's cold in NY!), and my hair has been reaping the consequences by slowly getting more and more dead. It was already dead from bleaching, and my hair lady is miles away from me right now in Florida.
I wanted to take away the burden of having a two-colored head (half brown and half blonde) and of having to consistently dye it, and clippers cost the same price as hair dye supplies (hard to find because of the pandemic)....So, I shaved my head!
I don't hate it at all. I thought that I would. I was so fed up with dealing with it after every shift that I didn't care to think about how I would feel after. But I actually love it. I probably won't keep it shaved, but it was definitely a fun experience to have with myself, and a great experience in general- I recommend every woman shave their head at least one time! It's the rawest version of yourself and a great feeling.
It's been a few days since I shaved my head, and I have worked a couple shifts- it was definitely the greatest decision for myself. My life and daily cleaning/sanitizing routine is so much easier now.

In 2009 I had brain surgery. They had to shave me bald. I learned quickly it's just hair. It will grow back. Rock that girl 👑 you are still beautiful.

I have an undercut from brain surgery. They shaved from the ear downwards on one side, so I evened it out around to the other side. Not quite the same as having the whole head shaved, but I love it! So much cooler this summer. Hope your surgery was successful. Mine was. I'm pain-free!

*I dont have to wash my hair often (saving on hair products, Rubberbands, and hair accessories)
* I've been suffering acne, breakouts since forever, but after shaving my head I have had clean Face. I dont even breakout once a month now. I'm guessing its because the hair falls on face and The Sweat from scalp/hair Falls through face and causes acne. I dont have body acne too now
* My mom is supportive of this, she even helped me Shave the back of my head as i couldn't do it. Every parent may not be supportive of this😪 Not only parents U have to deal with relatives and frnds and people u know.. if you think u can handle them and shut them off (talking about outsiders.) Then sure go for it.
* Be mindful that it takes lot of time to grow back the hair.
* You may or may not look good in Bald head.
Just be prepared for everything and do it for urself if u want.

I wear a hoodie when i step out so people doesn't really know i shaved my head. And i get to be freeee without having to worry about my hair.
Now i dont cover my head Bcoz its grown like 2-3 inches and i sort of look good. So have no reason to cover my head. I looked bad with shaved head🤣🤣

Same for me, Judy. Ten years remission from double breast cancer and bilateral mastectomies. I didn’t lose all my hair, it just got really thin in spots and has never fully recovered. I’d love to just shave my head, just to know what it feels like! But, I have ugly moles and other bumps on my scalp that would look awful! So, I have gone COVID gray (love it: it’s naturally silver blue!) and love the ease of short hair. Congrats on your 20 years! 💞

I shaved my head a year ago and I shave the sides like once a month. The little hair spikes...hurt...they go everywhere and it is so annoying. If you are gonna do this cover your shoulders.

Your reasons for shaving off all of your hair is absolutely justified and valid. With your highly dangerous job and the amount of time and energy it takes from you, it's understandable that you need to do what's convenient and comfortable. Thank you for doing the job you're doing to save the lives of patients with covid and being there for those who may not make it out too. You are a very brave and big-hearted young woman and with a great guy who loves and supports you. You look beautiful with hair and just as beautiful with it all shaven too. Short hair is the best.. no knots no nonsense no need to put it back in certain situations and scramble for a way to tie it.. i rarely ever wear makeup but when i do i go for the most out there makeup i can (blue or purple lipstick and dark eyeliner )

yeah the blonde hair was an impulsive thing that I did and just kept it going but so happy to be rid of it and back to my normal shade

You look BEAUTIFUL! As a girl who has shaved her head previously as well, that “awkward” growing out stage goes by quick. It does look a little weird when it’s that fuzzy length and if you’re prone to cowlicks, that can make it worse. But your hair is sooo healthy from it, it grows so quick. Also, a growing out tip to help stimulate the follicles and help hair growth, massage works better than any product when growing out a shaved head. My hair grows so slow but after shaving it, I had a full on bob after about 8 months. Whether you grow it back out or decide to upkeep it, it looks stunning on you. During the first 5 minutes I was just like “girl, it’s your hair, it’s your choice. You don’t have to justify your decisions to anyone but yourself”🤷🏼♂️. That being said, I completely understand. Your reason was very practical! I had a double lung transplant a little over 2 years ago. My hair was down to my waist, and being terminally ill was exhausting. I couldn’t keep up with keeping my hair “presentable” and focus on warding off death. After the transplant, I spent a few weeks in the ICU, a month and a half(?) altogether inpatient. Basically, I cut it off because it was a lot of work. I got overheated really fast because of how hard my body was working just doing daily tasks. I cut it all off, too. A very long-windex way to tell you: it’s not THAT impulsive and it looks good! Hair grows back! Take care of yourself, whatever that means to you! Thank you for doing what you’re doing in New York!😌
Jet I’m in a similar boat right now! I have nerve issues from yeast overgrowth and it’s made my whole head burn and itch. I have to keep it shaved and basically ice my head at all times lol I just overheat is easily. I’m to a point now where I realize it’s just hair and it doesn’t define my worth ✨

Thea Rose yes! I have serious nerve damage in my chest from the surgery and it itches ALL THE TIME. Whenever I sweat, itch. Whenever I wear a sweater, itch. Whenever I wear clothes in general, itch: it’s awful. If it was on my head I’m positive I’d be shaving it too, Sis! It ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT Define your worth! If you’re comfortable with it, and you radiate confidence, “naysayers” will fall in line. I’m glad you’ve found a way to handle it, my friend!

That is an idea. I haven’t had bangs since I was a little kid, but I have a large forehead and have wondered what bangs would look like now as an adult. Not sure if I’d hate them because my hair is not straight or thick. Afraid they’d look like a poodle puff or something, but it’d give you confidence if you’re just shaving it all off. Unfortunately I don’t want to shave my head, cause my face is ugly and honestly I feel better if I can hide my side profile with hair a bit. 😆

I just use bb cream sometimes🙂 and i am totally fine🥳 everybody respects that and for my age(15) i am very thankful for that because other are going for full make-up you know. Severe acne is a whole different issue. It's painful and your whole face looks like a crater-like bright red burn so that without camouflage make-up passersby startle and most conversation partners look at you as if they were witnessing an accident.
It was an annoying time.
Nowadays I only wear make-up on special occasions.

That being said make-up needn't be harmful to your skin. Skin-friendly make-up does not contain ingredients that clog up your pores, worsen acne or dry out your skin. For skin diseases or sensitive skin I recommend getting cosmetics solely at a pharmacy.
Also foundation is not supposed to be visible or feel heavy on your skin (less is more).

I shaved my head in nursing school because a teacher kept giving me a hard time about the little curls on my neckline. I had hair down to my waist at the time. I liked it when I did it too. By the time I graduated, it had grown out to a pixie length, about 3 inches or so. I kept it short for another 5 years or so...but I eventually let it grow again, it's down to my waist again now.

I shaved my hair for cancer research when I was 15 and it taught me from an early age that hair doesn’t make you who you are. And I feel like I became a better person and way less vain. Good job with this! I’m a nurse too and I totally understand this whole ordeal! Lol
