I am so glad you were here and sharing your amazing experience in anime golden age. You have such a needful knowledge and I hope that you continue to do things like this about anime and video games for many years to come. I grew up in the 90s anime silver age but I can appreciate you knowledge because the budget and art quality in the 80s are amazing and the story telling was not as censored as it is today. You are an awesome person and I'm glad you are here Happy console gamer!
Dunbine is indeed amazing, mecha designs and all. As for anime with the best mecha designs.... -Armored Trooper VOTOMS -Blue Comet SPT Layzner -Macross -Gundam -Five Star Stories -Patlabor -Gunbuster
This is just 2 hours of joy to me. HCG gushing on anime of his time and having people to listen to him and understand that passion, stories of the past, and dwelling into interesting topics throughout especially the last 30 minutes there. Now I have another episode of this to catch fosho.
It's great that Johnny got on to talk about these different topics. I especially liked him talking about what being a fan was like back then and his personal experiences. Great last 10 minutes too. I'd raise a glass if I had one on me right now.
That he does, I remember hearing about some anime for the first time from him back when he did some of his anime videos. I'm more of a fan after talking to him than ever before, he's seriously an awesome guy.
William Chow sounds like the kinda guy to lure unsuspecting people to an unmarked van with the promise of anime and then actually just show them anime.
I've been following HCG for years, what a get on the pod. The genuineness is really the selling point of his channel. It's just easy to listen to him excitedly talk about whatever and reminisce. His one story about being the only non-Asian into anime in the community (barring Pokémon in my experience) really struck home too.
So interesting listening to HCG’s experience with anime back in the 80s and 90s. I’ve grown up with anime being so mainstream and popular everywhere. Everyone at my school knows what anime is, even those who don’t watch it.
At least you didn't grow up in the era where every anime was Pokemon or Pikachu. "You watching that Pikachu crap again?" "It's .hack//Sign!" "Same difference."
Thx for inviting HCG! I myself watch some of your podcasts and didnt expect John's here. Also big thanks for recommends edgerunners, since John seems very dissappointed with cyberpunk 2077. Many people recommends edgerunners to him to persuade that finally people with right mind of original TRPG are creating something great, but perhaps only you guys are heard because of your works. Again, thank you!
Cracking video guys! I'm a big retro anime fan, so listening to this was pure heaven. Sometimes I feel alone in the modern anime scene, so it's nice to know there are people out there like me that still prefer the past! 🙂
Can't say we necessarily prefer the past, but we're definitely passionate about old anime just as much as we are what's airing today and wished more people shared that enthusiasm.
@@Mumismusings To be honest, this is the first time I have watched one of your videos and I had no idea who was who. Perhaps it was your guest that felt the past was better. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole conversation. It was nice hearing some real fans talking about anime old and new. It made me really feel at home. I have just subscribed and will definitely be checking out more videos in the future! 🙂
Hey Jonhny i really liked your old anime videos. Love the stories and recommendations. Hope one day you feel like doing some more. Watched royal space force thanks to your recommendation and it was awesome
I listed most of them in the time codes, so they should be in the description in parentheses for you. Might have missed one here and there we didn't go into much detail on like Gundam Witch From Mercury or something, but a good chunk are listed there, at least.
Thanks for having me on guys!
Our pleasure, thank you for coming on! We'll definitely have to do it again sometime.
Thank you for showing me all sorts of older anime I haven't heard of before, I watched megazone 23 a year ago because of you
Still would be great if could still do anime reviews (for old times sake).

Johnny, it saddens me you don’t talk about anime more 😢

Fun fact, Urotsukidoji premiered to English speaking audiences for the first time at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) 1989.
Urotsukidoji is very fun.
Always been a casual fan of happyconsolegamer, it's very nice to hear his genuine thoughts and experience on anime. what a wonderful episode this was
Loyal fan of @HappyConsoleGamer... Been seeing Johnny's channel since 2010... He loves his retro anime for sure!!!
That he does, I remember hearing about some anime for the first time from him back when he did some of his anime videos. I'm more of a fan after talking to him than ever before, he's seriously an awesome guy.
I wish there was a video! Always love seeing/hearing HCG

When he gives you a kilo of anime, he tips the scales in your favor and gives you more than you asked for.
I think Johnny would like mahoujin guru guru 2017 since he is a huge fan of dragon quest and FF series.
Bold of him to say he remembers love but doesn't appreciate macross 7.
LISTEN TO MY SONG

So this is what someone with well-adjusted social skills sounds like...
Joe please 😂😂😭

Pretty sure 19 out of 20 typical shonen jump anime fans surveyed NEVER have watched Macross: Do You Remember Love. What a shame.
They don't remember love. 😢
For good old mecha, adventure anime search for Mado King Granzort. A masterpiece for me - Granzort soundtrack is beyond masterpiece...
I might have to give that one a peep. 👀
Could someone make a list of all the anime they listed lol I can’t spell all of them lollol
