Many props to field welder. A friend of mine works the pipe line out of Wisconsin and I had a chance to work with him at another job and now my stick welding and vertical ups are better than they ever were before. Keep fryin.
I'm itching to get into the field. My patience will be rewarded though. To all the welders out there be safe and lay some sexy beads for us who are still learning.
1:00-2:13......WOW, i am speechless that person can do some serious welding, all you people out there that are welders know that going from flat to vertical to almost overhead is EXTREMELY difficult to do without repositioning yourself.....aweomse, i love pipeline welding. i wish that was my job.
On some lines they do weld from the bottom up. They start with a root down, low high vertical up. The video shown here, more than likely the electrode is a 7010 or 6010 5p+. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
In your opinion how likely is it that all this type of welding will become fully/semi automated in years to come? I'm looking into doing this type of work and i'm not quite sure about my future prospects in the industry. Nice videos you have there as well, cheers.
The Miller elite is a great lid. I've owned two my new est is the digital. If your going to lay down the coin for one go digital. I wouldnt recommend it for a lot of out doors heavy use where it is subject to the elements. Though i"ve had mine out in some nice Alberta winters. but like i say a great lid for shop use.
do you guys grind between one pass to the other? why dont i ever see you all clean or girnd when stopping and starting agian?...is it not necessary? isnt there a chance of busting x-rays doing that?... just wondering?
i should have gone to school and become a welder, i'm sure its not fun all the time, but what job is right?, i believe it's pretty good money in the oil patch....nice vid!
Thanks for reply, i had a go today, root gap 2mm root face 2mm and increased the amps, it felt better had more control... But litterally 1inch right on the bottom...finished of flush inside of the pipe :@ Ill keep trying... will try a further increase in amps tomorow, and change the angle of electrode slightly. 90degrees to the pipe right at the bottom?
wats the best way to keep a steady hand when ur welding i have a problem with that i go to fast and my welds dont come out rite.......and how much does the pipeline pay
What happen if its raining ? do you have to stop or you put cover while you re working. BTW that is my dream job sir. Next quarter I'll be learning how to weld pipe :)
I meant to put after that you guys have to have your own welding trucks right I'm only asking because I'm going to college to go into this field of welding
I swear you gotta love all the idiots that get on YT & waste our time & space with these worthless, irrelevant comments!!! Thanks for posting good quality trade-related material. The TRUE CRAFTSMEN on here appreciate it i'm sure!!! Good lookin' work bro, keep it up!!! "WELDERS ARE THE REAL BACKBONE OF THE INDUSTRIAL TRADES"
alright i seen guys with that kind of welding hood (the white one) and i seen guys with the welding hood that is kinda like a squared off with circle cardboard, what are those used for are those guys like QC??
I have a question, since I'm a learning welder, when I weld pipe should I use a 7010 or 7018 for my root pass? I never get good penetration and I plan on getting a pipe cert. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Hey thanks for uploading the video its great to watch :) i am 26 and have been learning to pipe weld for about 18months now. Can i ask if you have any tips for the root run with 6010hyp you see i struggle right at the bottom, the root is flush inside of the pipe.... everywhere else it has penetrated 1-2mm ? Do i need a slight increase in amps or you think maybe i just need to 'push it' in more? Any advice would be really helpfull
6010 for bead and hot pass and 7010 for fillers????....is this right? what is the most common "hand motion" when welding 7010 downhill?... side to side, circles...or do u guys just drag the rod?
Very nice. Where did you (or I guess whoever is being filmed) get started in welding? Small trade school, community college, a bigger, welding specific school or just learned through apprenticeship? There's a big welding school a few states away and I'm wondering if I should go there. Quite an investment to see if I even like doing this haha.
Krookiemonster -Each weld is x-ray, after ditching, lowering in, hdd, tie-ins, backfill and alot of other stuff is done they hydro-test the line in the ground, usually miles at a time.
ive been hearing alot about shipyards adopting fcaw for almost everything including pipe, i used to work in a fab plant where we migged and core wire welded low pressure pipe, since it wasnt code a full pen. root was not required but i would often practice at it with little success. do you guys know much about wire welding pipe to code?
Just kidding. I did some research, I just started welding, obviously a complete novice. The 7010 is a cellulose rod like the 6010 (you were running a hot pass?). The 8 in 7018 identifies the flux, that one must be ran uphill. Correct?
for this pipeline, were you guys running stringers in the fill and weaving the cap? or full through weave? i know its different as per the WPS. i couldnt really tell haha. thanks for keeping america held together!
hi i am thinking about going into pipeline welding can you tell me some of the goods and the bad parts of the job and the basic information on this job? any response would be greatly appreciated
- on this pipe i would use 7016 for the root and 7018 for hotpass fill and cap and is stronger then the pipe itself - but it all depends on metal composition and rod and technique so there is no easy answer to how it should be done:))) great vid anyway - thumbs up@__))
I have a miller elite and yes there good helmets but the lens is flat, so when i'm welding over head all the slag fslls on the lens cover and Burns it up really fast.
hey wat company is that and do they require experience workers, i have about at least 1 year of schooling, i just started pipe this semester im on 2 g position , i been using 6010 4 root pass , 7018 4 hot pass , filler, and cap pass
Its like a high pitched bullet whizing by your head. Its in alot of your videos on the firing line. I doubt its a grinder any other ideas? I keep thinking stress cracks for some reason
hey bro i love your vids, do you have any tips for me to get into the pipelines? im in school rightnow and i graduate on october 9th this year. and i would want to join the pipelines? how can i join?
@MrStryperfan Oh oops could you answer my questons bout pg&e? I was wondering if you can weld for them but not be away from home for a month maybe be away for a couple days or whats a job with pg&e that would do that and il still work with my hands not some office job
Certainly one of the best professional video on UA-cam
800,000 views as of today! Thank you everyone!!!
Many props to field welder. A friend of mine works the pipe line out of Wisconsin and I had a chance to work with him at another job and now my stick welding and vertical ups are better than they ever were before. Keep fryin.
600,000 views today! Thanks everyone for making that possible!

700,000 views as of today! Thank you to everyone who helped make that possible!

Dreaming of one day getting out of the Navy and getting my own rig and becoming a pipeliner! keep the videos coming!
This may be a dumb question and please forgive me if it is.....Do Yall bury those pipes once you're done? or do they just sit there on the pallets?
Tyler Deck were you born yesterday?
On some lines they do weld from the bottom up. They start with a root down, low high vertical up. The video shown here, more than likely the electrode is a 7010 or 6010 5p+. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
what i hate about most welding videos is that most dont have a lens so you can actually see the different ways the puddle is manipulated
In your opinion how likely is it that all this type of welding will become fully/semi automated in years to come?
I'm looking into doing this type of work and i'm not quite sure about my future prospects in the industry.
Nice videos you have there as well, cheers.
What electrodes are you using? and what's the base material reference in AWS?
awesome to watch, the only welding i do is brazing copper pipes on refrigeration and AC units, this looks a whole lot more fun. nice job
My eye's just got burned from the awesome.
Is going to school for welding necessary? Is there a demand for pipeline welders? How much experience is required to work on a pipeline?
im 13 and wanted to do this for a few years and it just stuck..... would you guys recomend this?
The Miller elite is a great lid. I've owned two my new est is the digital. If your going to lay down the coin for one go digital. I wouldnt recommend it for a lot of out doors heavy use where it is subject to the elements. Though i"ve had mine out in some nice Alberta winters. but like i say a great lid for shop use.

do you work like a week on then a week off or do you work untell the whole job is done then you go home or how does that work?
both m8, plus mma, depends on "wps" welding procedure specification, different applications have different tensile strengths with differing pressures
i should have gone to school and become a welder, i'm sure its not fun all the time, but what job is right?, i believe it's pretty good money in the oil patch....nice vid!
hey man got two question.
wut gap yall use for ur roots on pipes?
n wut do u grind ur takes, n restarts with?
lol thanks for the help and even wen i try slowin down its not helpin but itll take sum time but how much do they pay per hour and is it a weekly pay
Thanks for reply, i had a go today, root gap 2mm root face 2mm and increased the amps, it felt better had more control...

This will soon be my job! I can't wait to finish school and actually start welding!!
Arc welding is tiring
What happen if its raining ? do you have to stop or you put cover while you re working.
BTW that is my dream job sir. Next quarter I'll be learning how to weld pipe :)
Is all pipe welded downhand /stoved out in Canada ? we always weld vertical up in the UK .I suppose it is easier to weld downhand .
I meant to put after that you guys have to have your own welding trucks right I'm only asking because I'm going to college to go into this field of welding

Okay because I was using 7010 for my root pass and it was good, but it put down to much keyhole, thanks for the help man
Yeah I used 6010 for the last one and it did pretty good with the root pass, thanks for the help though (:
true true, i like both, i love the gold lens their view is amazingly clear
Hey thanks for uploading the video its great to watch :) i am 26 and have been learning to pipe weld for about 18months now.

How much do these guys make a year? I'm very curious
do you have any vids of the sidebooms or other pipeline equipment?
Hey man what motion do you use on the when you get on the bottom of the poor and do you turn the heat down when you get there
Does that mean water and thick goopy oil run at the same pressures? One would expect higher viscosity fluid to require higher pressures to flow.
Thanks for your videos man. It`s like entering a new world for me. Keep it up, please.
Big money. Nothing finer than a pipeliner.
do they just mig on pipelines or just stick ???
wow, that was a long bead, how long are your rods and are they 5mm rods
Thay looken for welders i bin welding high pres. For more then ten years tssa. Do thay put a 6010 core and 7018 filler and cap?
this probably seems like a dumb question but do they test for leaks and if so how?
Krookiemonster -Each weld is x-ray, after ditching, lowering in, hdd, tie-ins, backfill and alot of other stuff is done they hydro-test the line in the ground, usually miles at a time.

cool man...s0 what would be difference between 7010 and 7018?
did you guys have to do your 1st pass with 6010???
thank you for putting that here I felt like I was there!!
Just kidding. I did some research, I just started welding, obviously a complete novice. The 7010 is a cellulose rod like the 6010 (you were running a hot pass?). The 8 in 7018 identifies the flux, that one must be ran uphill. Correct?

You will need more than a few welders to keep the U.S. together its fucked
Hell yeah brother your bad ass with your trade. I’ve got a couple buddies that weld where all from Sherwood About 20 minutes from Little Rock
If welding at oil and gas ,the salary ok or not??
you guys use Lincoln electric 7018 1/8th Excalibur rods?
do u do some welding too? and thats in canada right?
i am 17 and am thinking of getting into this sorta thing what would i need to do
is this in Eastern Washington state? past Moses lake?
Good job from France !
cool video! do you happen to know what type/size of fire extinguishers are required on site for pipe welding,i need to buy one for my home shop thanks
hi i am thinking about going into pipeline welding can you tell me some of the goods and the bad parts of the job and the basic information on this job? any response would be greatly appreciated
Be very fit, physically and mentally - conquer boredom.
Be prepared to give up all you love except the next line-up
- on this pipe i would use 7016 for the root and 7018 for hotpass fill and cap and is stronger then the pipe itself - but it all depends on metal composition and rod and technique so there is no easy answer to how it should be done:))) great vid anyway - thumbs up@__))
I have a miller elite and yes there good helmets but the lens is flat, so when i'm welding over head all the slag fslls on the lens cover and Burns it up really fast.
Do you guys use pancake hoods?
hey wat company is that and do they require experience workers, i have about at least 1 year of schooling, i just started pipe this semester im on 2 g position , i been using 6010 4 root pass , 7018 4 hot pass , filler, and cap pass
wow I am now a fan of you guys
Whats the "high pitched noises" that are coming from the pipe itself around 3:22?
Its like a high pitched bullet whizing by your head. Its in alot of your videos on the firing line. I doubt its a grinder any other ideas? I keep thinking stress cracks for some reason
do you know what the pay range is for a rookie/green pipeline welder is?
Very interesting video sir, thanks for putting them up here :)
Is it industry standard to weld everything downhill?
What do you make on average between jobs?
This mainline welding video of mine just rolled 350,000 views! Things are looking up!

Luis Trevino make sure you ain't no fucking scab first. Get in a union, these scabs make more money for the company then themselves.
running downhill with a 7010?? Never burned one before, only touched the 7018 rods. thats why im confused??
what company do yall work for?
Dude you're a good welder! Love you videos! Oh and I don't care how much you make :P
Can you ask you?
Any suggestions to "get my foot in the door"?
Cool video man, I hope to move away from the truck body building industry into pipe welding as soon as someone let's me in.
@MrStryperfan Oh oops could you answer my questons bout pg&e? I was wondering if you can weld for them but not be away from home for a month maybe be away for a couple days or whats a job with pg&e that would do that and il still work with my hands not some office job
are u guys using 7018???
Good vid xAZAZELx13, lookin' forward to getting my rig on the mainline.

Vocês são muito bons no que diz respeito a soldagem de dutos! valeu
Красавцы!!! Увы у нас в Хакасии токого оборудование нет.
This video just rolled 300,000 views. I feel pretty good about that.
xAZAZELx13 what rod is used for downhill pipe for your root fill and cap
xAZAZELx13 what size is the elctrode and is the 8010 used for the root or for the fill and cap
+xAZAZELx13 very good brother big up
is the miller elite a good welding helmet? message me or reply to some good helmets
This in Colorado?
god damn wind. that shit never stops
i would love to do that for living how can i get a job there?

What make and amp stingers do you guys use.
Thinks I have a 400 amp tweko and is a bit heavy. Thanks for I info I've always wanted to be a pipeline want a be.

@gilberto83 what does "busting xrays" mean?
ive actually done a heck of alot of research on it
how do you ground the pipes?
is Cytoflex?
