    Thank you so much for this! Very instructive. Just shredded my sail this afternoon.

    In a tear within a panel its easy, but impossible when crossing seam. What you did wrong with aligning tear is that you have to unrigg, pull out battens and THEN aligne, this is the easist way to make shure there is no distertion, because a tear within a panel is always flat, but you must give it the chance to come flat. Often batten has shape (horizontal cut) beneath it, that´s why you pull it out.
    One option too is using dacron or spinnaker tape used in sailing or kiting. These then also can be sewn to prevend unsticking on edges, of course you put in on both sides too. Giving you a lasting repairment as good as done by sailmaker.

    Just got some for 2 of my Black Tips. The tears are worse (quotes of £144 & £185 to fix) & I didn't do a great job first time round. Hopefully after watching this i can.

    Je vous suggère de ne plus toucher l'endroit où vous voulez mettre de l'adhésif. On a toujours de la graisse sur les doigts, ce qui affaibli l'adhésion, sinon, merci Manu!

    How did you decide on Gorilla tape? Most blogs say not to use any form of duct tape.

    • @manuwindsurfing
      @manuwindsurfing  3 роки тому

      Online research. It's not a duct tape per se more of a thicker stretchy tape very tacky yet forgiving tape. Pretty awesome and clear!
      Apparently the black duct tape can also be used and sticks better over fabric.

    How long did the tape stay on?

    • @manuwindsurfing
      @manuwindsurfing  2 роки тому

      It's still on. Sail will die first. Been using this to repair all of my sails. Awesome!

      @@manuwindsurfing I've had trouble with bubbles and the tape staying on.
      I only used warm water with washing liquid for prep, maybe I must use alcohol.
      Have you had any trouble like this while getting the method right?

      @@MarshallRoad What part are you taping? The tape is really good with bubbles and even if you have some, they'll go away with time.

      @@manuwindsurfing Xply area at the top on the trailing edge where it degrades from flapping, and a patch in the middle where the mono was dented.
      It's great tape but it bubbled up a while after being rubbed down fully.

      The tape should work perfectly for these areas. Is it coming off at the sides? May need to round the edges?

      You mean to replace a whole panel?

      @@manuwindsurfing for replacing more than a panel. I guess they are sold as rolls/bobbins, aren't they?
