Consider painting your crane truck cockpit a different color so you don't have to keep running around the truck looking for it. :P
But that's sensible! And we all know that's not a word in splitsie's vocabulary :P
Thank you! You got me to the point where I finally understand the game. I really got tired of uninstalling in defeat
I feel you!
I am moving in the same direktion thanks to his videos.
I need to watch more, working on the "Assertive Acquisitions" series, but i am starting to feel better about the game.
@@TENGILLwhen you are done you must watch survival unlikely that was such a blast a true classic,it was the series I watched when I was new to space engineers.
I would be up to play with y'all and help you learn the game! I'm NA West Coast Time.
Ohhh Waldo 😮
I am still learning space engineer and still very new to the game compared to others. If it wasn't for all of Splitsies videos then I would be so lost. He has helped me out a lot and I definitely love all of his series and every video. Both his tutorial videos and all the rest are just fantastic and well put together.
Splitsie: "I should be out there looting!"
Spoken like a true loot goblin!
We have a Loot Goblin inside of us.
Another happy customer! That's the quality of Splitsie's Roadside Assistance Service.
Nice to see other people coming into play in the series. The Scrapyard is great solo, but it really shines when you get to cooperate like that. :D
With all those dust storms flying around, it'd make sense to me to have a "sand lock" for your living quarters, so your engineer doesn't bring too much sand into the comforts of his home. We tend(ed) to do the same with snow, mud and the related wetness here in Norway (when outside of modern/urban areas ofc).
It's funny how little I think about those sorts of things given where I live, it was so different when I travelled in Canada and every home has those airlocks to prevent too much of the heat from escaping. It's an interesting idea that I might try to incorporate if I expand the living area a bit :)
@@Splitsie your lucky you dont have to live in hell and sand like i do in texas, i get nosebleeds from how hot it gets sometimes :(
Thinking maybe hiding a rotor under the crate/battery pile and setting it to a jaunty angle might help sell the "pile of loose containers" look.
It probably would, though I'll try as much as possible to get the look without extra subgrids where I can, worried that it might be too much of a performance hog if I go to my usual lengths of subgrids :D
I'd say a compromise on the landing gear for the crane is acceptable - use them for more challenging loads, but first design a set of folding booms for them rather than a simple downward piston. It'll widen the base and give a proper visual indication that the vehicle's locked down and stabilized.
I may well come around to that if I really get stuck, but it might be worth the outriggers anyway, would be interesting to build some :)
Great to see as always. Cooperative play with the local scrappers proves we don't always need competition
Agreed, I love being able to do some smaller cooperative things like this, hopefully we'll be able to do more going forward :)
One thing you could do for the light towers. You said that the voxels get reset, so you could dig a trench to connect them with a sort of underground cable system. Give them enough space and you won't have to worry too much about people driving into them.
i was thinking of small grid power lines on poles above any vehicular activity.
your suggested sounds a lot better on the server though.
Yeah, I like the idea of something visible connecting but it might be nice to hide some parts just to make it easier to move vehicles around those bits :)
@@Splitsie Yeah I get that, aesthetics are a key factor.
Its just a shame that Keen have never thought to implement a sort of "cable" system so we could connect separate grids to share power. I know there's a mod that does similar but its a conveyor system, problem is they're far too bulky to pass off as a power cable.
Tethers mod exist.
Forever love this series and the mod! It forces one to engineer in Space Engineers!
38:27 'Pallet System' Go literal. build a 10x10 small grid platform and then build panels around the edges. Then just dump your items in there. Build a shelf system inside your warehouse and build a forklift to grab the pallets, lift them into their proper spots and push them in for long term storage. Then, when people come around asking for a particular item, just grab your forklift, pull down the pallet and away you go!
39:53 Advanced rotor. Small grid rotor part. Place the rotor in the floor facing upwards. Sink the rotor part down (-11cm?) and build a 5x5 small grid platform on top of it. Align the height of the small grid so that it's even with the floor, and then you can build small grid within large grid and still have everything line up. Plus it's very stable since the 5x5 will be held in place by the large grid blocks.
44:46 Build your entire house decor with small grid. It'll look better. Much more detailed. Just keep building off of the survival kit.
I've done some building all in small grid and while some things are fun, I know I'm capable and prone to spending FAR too much time doing that, so it's probably best I don't spend 4 weeks on such a project :D
@@Splitsie "Know thyself" lol. Good to go.
I'm here for the indecisive Splitse noises.
49:54 Ahh the humble paint gun. One of many mods that should be vanilla, and a necessity in every save of mine.
Could rotate the bookshelf 90° so the coffee cups are where the kitchen is.
Also a vertical (corner) light in the corner may look good.
Good call on the coffee cups :)
@@Splitsie Thanks :)
I love this series!! Is there a server to go with it or is this a private server?
Since you're a member if you join the discord and link your UA-cam account to discord you'll be able to see the supporters area which has all the details 🙂
@@Splitsieok what's the discord
The link should be in the description of all my videos 🙂
I put off setting up PARK on my crane until I saw it on yours. I don’t have it fully implemented and it still helps so much.
Wish I’d seen this before using a connector on my survival kit. I finally got the med components to fix it.
I'd say a connector is a bit more stable - more chunky - but definitely more stable :)
I really like how you just bonk around Hi-Tech and explosive stuff around with your crane :D
With a small grid crane its *usually* ok, I'm terrified of large grid cranes though, have destroyed a lot of stuff with them in the past :P
IF YOUR BOOR REMAINS ERECT MORE THAN 4 HOURS PLEASE CONSULT THE OTHER CRANE DRIVER
Pointing a gun at you is rude 😂 most American thing I've ever heard
Random guy was great.
More random guy 🙂
I need to find a server like this to play with other people. Usually play on the Keen MP servers but it's not very collaborative.
Mainly just trying to avoid my stuff being wrecked by periodic player pirate raids.
Lol 😂
I am living for these episodes right now. Good on ya Splitsie!
Glad you're enjoying it :)
do you still use the same script from your crane tutorial ?
Yup, the park script is my preferred method 🙂
Okay, hear me out on the lighting situation. Collect small batteries, attach an interior light, small connector and a mag plate to them, move them around and treat them as light bulbs, then when the batteries die just detach the mag plate and bring them over to a charger
If I had an easy way to turn them off when I log off I'd totally do that, but knowing that I need to recharge them every time I log back on (because of how many hours will have passed) means I think I'd stick to a concept like that in something not on a 24/7 server :/
If you grind down your survival kit, you can make a large grid version!
It's remove from the build menu in this scenario, like assemblers and refineries. If he grinds it down, it's gone.
Yup, gotta find all that sort of stuff :)
@@SplitsieI've been playing it solo, and it's genuinely the most fun I've had in SE so far
Feels like this video is mainly just splitsie flexing his crane
hacking should be easier if your inventory is full so that you can't remove the power cells, right?
Nope, a full inventory still destroys the cells
@@Splitsie oh it just skips all the other components to get to the cells? That's just mean, that is
I can see one unavailable video on your playlist, is that the next video? I'm really exited for the next video!!
Yeah, if there's ever an unavailable (or members only) video in a playlist, it means it's queued up for release at the usual time for that series 🙂
I think I'd have lined up the skylight with the window but I'm not the one playin :D Sadly I'm never at home with the comp that can play Space Engineers so thanks for letting me enjoy it still vicariously through you :D
I was thinking the same thing but preferred where the light would fall if I put it where I did, I may well change it up later and instead go for 2 of them to break up the room more and avoid the oddness of the skylight not lining up with the window :)
you should name the crane "Scorpion"
that looks awesome the hut made a big difference and it starting to look like a place of business maybe some lcds advertising trade or scrap for sale
Thanks, I very much enjoy when a place starts to feel a little bit special :)
Still watching the video, but if terrain automatically resets, you could theoretically make connection to the main base for the light towers you're talking about by drilling into the ground and placing blocks underneath. Or just engineer a more interesting solution :D
I'm tempted to do some of both. Something underground to be secure and reliable, something above ground for style :)
Porta-cabin are those container offices my dude
Think a tower crane would look legit AF at the base Splitsie 😁
Yeah I'll probably need one with what I'm thinking of doing in the next one ;)
My brother and I have been playing this co-op for about a week, and we are having a great time! Does this gameplay extend to space as well, with derelict stations and ships?
Glad you're both enjoying it, it does continue in space in the version that's on the workshop. You can find all sorts of large grid blocks up there to build yourself a ship :)
In this series I've disabled it for us, because I want to stick to the planetary side of things
Thank you, both for your answer, and for this style of play!@@Splitsie
Always happy to see a new splitsie video, especially at 130am in canada while buzzed.
Bro it’s 4:00am for me I don’t know why I need to watch it as soon as it comes out I get no sleep ever 😢 awesome video as always though
Go to sleep bro. The video will still be there when you wake up.
I ended up with 3 good sleep 😴
Damn it, S. You make me want to play on a server like this SO much.
Found this channel on a survival search game, now i've been benge watching and subbed. Ty for the content very good.
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it 🙂
I can already tell in the first 15 minutes of this video. This is at LEAST a 20 episode series...Also I have no idea how I'm late by two days each damn episode, I need to look at my notifications better.
Thanks for the Boom Box, Splitsie. I crapped my pants when the music started playing!
lol Glad you enjoyed it :D
Very cool looking mod pack. I was just wondering though, since all of you seem to be just hanging out, are there every any pvp type dudes in the server, playing the pirate, or bad guy, or whatever? Or do you guys just generally stigmatize those people out of the server? As in, dude comes rolling up with some guns and says “I need x from you, you have a day to give it, if not, I blow your base” type thing. The survival thing is always cooler with some conflict going on.
on the work shack where the corrugated texture doesn't line up properly. make them a completely different colour or texture (maybe battered or rusted) to make it look like they were a patch job, it may not look as out of place then
Those pallets are an interesting idea. question, back on your "wrong way up" series, I remember you having access to large "sticky" floor panels. You all used them as parking brakes more or less for your airplane fighters. Can those panels lock in place more then one small block item at a time when activated? like...putting 6 gyros on the panel and then activating it. Would that hold all six or does space engineers only allow one point of stickiness per panel? and would that be allowable by your current ruleset?
Keen never did fix the door on the bathroom block, did they? Good thing we always have our air-tight vizors ready! That reminds me, I think the sci-fi control panel still has a broken lcd as well.
Watching this makes me wonder why you wouldn’t scrap the entire structure to build large grid rovers . Then you could add a grinder pit to it and just pick up everything and eat it :)
One part that makes pallets great is making them stack while also being as simple as possible.
So, what I propose as a design is simple, 5x7 platform - longer edges are full blocks rest made of half blocks. Corners are merge block on the base, followed by 3 block high column with merge block at its top, allowing for stacking.
You should do a set of pistons facing downward with landing gear so you can use it like the support legs on cranes, that way you don’t have to worry about tipping when using the crane. Just a suggestion, definitely love the rover you got tho!!
Always good to see some player interaction.
This time it highlights how much more proficient Splitsie is with this. 😀
Jackson is brave to share the screen with a professional SE player.
lol I'm not sure I'd put myself that high up on a pedestal, I definitely have some latency advantage with Jexsam being in the US :D
(The server is in Australia)
I have never played space engineers, or watched anything else about it. And although i dont think id enjoy playing it, im extremely invested in this series lol
I think I wouldve made the housing one tile higher and added those girder-like half blocks horizontally with corner lights on them
The trick to grinding the towers is to not stop the grinder. Just grind the blocks as the fall. Oh and dont have your rover near just incase....
In Australia those construction building offices is called a “Donga”
I don't understand why you didn't just pop the wind turbine using the ctrl+ grinder instead of drilling the voxels
I was promised a man that turns into a house at the full moon. This will be a good one to watch.
lol :D
2:35 Stealy Wheely Automobiley. Make a quick Sprunk stop!
would the simplest fork lift just be a pistion and a block with a mag mount and have that on a 4 wheel buggy with rear wheel steer
X*X sized small grid blocks with mag plates and a small control panel. My simple idea for a small pallet.
The word you were looking for when talking about the building on construction sites is conex.
Can this scenario be done on console? I'd loved to play this
Sadly not, a few of the things I do require 'client side' scripting which can only be done on the Steam version :(
@@Splitsie unfortunate, but I'll get my fix by watching your content. Can't wait for the next installment of the series!
fill you invortory to not grind battery. if i reamember korrekt.
nope, it'll just drop stuff on the ground
Not necessarily on the ground, the scrap stays in the block like when something gets damaged. If you return and weld it up with a partially empty inventory, the scrap will then go into your inventory
so i have the mods and the map but mine doesnt look anything like yours like the planet is way different any reason why?
hey, loving these videos. having an issue finding servers like this, is there a way I can join this server? or find one similar
still having problem getting this to load right is they a set order the mods need to load in to work if i try some of the mods on another custem world they seem to work but now when i try and load this scenario
pallet system that mergeblock locks into set places like a rack system *nods* use the forklift to move about pallets.
Add spacer legs from jacks to make the crane more stable when loading large objects 👍
Not using landing gear for anchoring makes sense, for the engineering challenge. Have you considered deployable outriggers? No landing gear on the end, instead maybe like a 1x1 wheel, placed side-down (max friction? Or zero? Not sure which would work better)? Basically, thinking exactly like the deployable "feet" that cranes and backhoes and such have (for the same purpose), just an "arm" at each corner that pivots down to the ground. Those don't lock down IRL either (usually), they just provide a wider "foot" to avoid lateral tilting.
I should definitely add some of those when I have the time, would be cool to have them deploy if nothing else as I could have them added to the same deployment function as the crane itself :)
I feel you guys need someone to be in a apc/tank might make base conquest easier and also more chaotic
Would be nice if your trading post would attract a few people and ending up being the center of a settlement.
The RBLF, unlike the heathen Splitsie, knows there is no such thing as ‘ Too Many Batteries ‘… All Batteries are Precious gifts from the Glorious Red Battery, Giver of Power!
Long may it Power Us…
Ohm Ohm Ohm…
lol That they may be, but a mobile grid can definitely have too many, because then it becomes a static grid :P
I wonder how you gonna transport Large grid large container when you gonna find it. That thing is well large and would be very bad to destroy it, crane and half the base with it.
Btw. I have to boasts myself I just finish Survival Imposible. Hope you gonna return to that some day.
Now i have "only" escape unlikely, survival maybe and survival unlikely to catch up.
Plenty contentent (bit dated) to watch between AA and ScSu.
They're definitely big but they're not especially heavy since interior plate only weighs 1kg each (compared to steel plate at 7kg). I *should* be able to carry an empty one with the crane - hopefully I'm right :P
You said about making a simple forklift for moving pallets of goods around - so, just to keep it 'simple' - how about a reach-truck with side shift? As you're in a warehouse, you'll need at least a four piston height on it, one piston for the 'reach' and another for side-shift, hinges and (maybe) another piston if you decide to make it tilt as well. This is more or less your definition of 'simple', isn't it? (I'd suggest a side-winder truck, but that might be tempting Klang too much.)
Last thought - can you build a cage for your crane so you can take yourself up high, like SI with the Liftsie, so you can repair/grind/hack blocks that are elevated? I'm not sure if you hacked one of the wind turbines as the spotlight seems to keep focusing on it.
I'll have to look into what you're referring to as I'm not 100% sure what side-shift might entail, but I hope to make something which can move around inside the warehouse so it'll have to be quite small.
Even if I can't make a cage, I'm sure I could redesign the crane to be able to walk along the crane arm to at least reach relatively high places :)
Would the new turbine at 28:23 have spawned in, instead of him missing it?
At 29:11 the hinge part slowly catches up to the rest of the crane… did a double take when I first saw that lol
what planet are you using or on
It's called Satreus :)
15:54 The Aussie word for them is Dongah.
Really? I guess I shouldn't be surprised 😂
No it's not, it's a site office, you're the dongah.
I like your home, but I kind of think you should move your living area upstairs and keep your office/workshop/ breakroom space separate. Give your engineer the illusion of getting away from the work environment for a bit. The workshop space could also be where you store items like the higher tier tools - expensive items that woud be easy to disappear (this is from a roleplay point of view, I dont truly expect anyone to steal from you.)
That might be a good option as the building looks a bit lacking in its current form, so it might improve it to add some height and thus a second floor
Well we found out where the 3 metal grids went. They blew up the hill into that shed.
i’m suing you because this episode is less than 1 hour
If you make the cylinders under the base survival kit black, they'll look like rubber vibration/sound dampeners we used on heavy equipment on the boats I served on.
Hmm... interesting idea :)
Could you possibly put a grinder "finger" on your crane?
If I may make a suggestion?
You really should put some lights on your crane and a Spotlight on the upper part, so you can better see (in Sandstorms or at night), what you are latching on.
Also, if possible, maybe a Solar Module somewhere on your Truck were it isn't in the way, so it could reload your Batterys a little while driving?
And at last: Hadn't this Szenario a Mod with Welding plates in it? I mean, this would work better and faster, with the loss of some components, if you connect stuff to your base, aka Energycells.
But it is a nice Series. Wish you luck for your future in the dessert. ;-)
p.s. For your Buildings: I often use the "Dusty" Theme for the outside Walls, because in the desert, there is ALOT of dust. xD
Welding patches are used on merge, while merge block can be grinded down and, effectively, re-used.
The trouble with the dusty texture on buildings made of the plate blocks is that the pattern is very repetitive, if I had things built such that I had an outer layer and inner then I'd totally do something like that because I'd be more likely to use full blocks rather than plate :)
Speaking of Mailboxes - just a reminder, me and Simplex did finished our mailbox mods for ya a while ago if you're interested. ;)
Yes, I very much am. Just keep forgetting to do the thing with the survival kit to enable them. Keep poking and reminding me if I don't get it done soon :)
OMG, how have I never thought to do a rover hanger ramp like that.
Loved the vid.
Could I ask which planet is this in the mod?
11:08 I might be horribly misremembering, but don't blast doors need metal grids to be built? Or is it just heavy armor that does? If they do, that track would be a pretty good find to grind down. Otherwise I guess you'll have to hope to find some big fortress to take the armor from.
The one shorter wind turbine kind of adds to the aesthetic. Lifting and building onto a tower like that takes a lot of effort, realistically, and the tower is the oldest one on the base, so it might well be the kind you just leave until it fails and falls so you can replace it entirely.
Blast doors are just steel plate, which makes them handy for decorative stuff and thankfully not completely destroy the progression with them being used as rails :D
I feel like you forgot to make the office you wanted to make. Perhaps you should make a small office space in the warehouse? A small building on the top or side of the warehouse connected by railing and scaffolding?
Yeah, something like that could work, or maybe I need to make my little home multistorey to make space for the office. I'm sure it'll continue to evolve and hopefully improve :)
Considering how differently I play these games to a lot of people who make videos about em, I'd literally have all four of those wind turbines at different heights and I feel like people would go nutters about it.
Honestly, I probably would have done the same, but perhaps it would have been to show how they all came from different places :P
Good video.
You should try building a speed bike for looking for bigger bases with potential larg cargo for large grids.
Or just make a room full of small grid small batteries floor to the top full mybe thoughts.
If I was playing on a local game I'd totally build a scout like that, unfortunately scouting ahead doesn't work as well with how the cleanup needed to be set up as all the scrap out there gets periodically removed and so would be gone by the time I got back :(
I'm seeing like few episodes ahead on the chat: "Splitsie: Want to trade 5 pallets of small grid gyroscopes and 5 pallets of small grid small H2 thrusters for 1 large grid large cargo container!" :D
Anyway, keep up great content and channel Splitsie, maybe we see more cooperation in the future and other people involved in the series
lol Would be cool if we get that far before the server decides we've had enough :D
@@Splitsie lol, I hope you will find soon at least one large cago.
When I was plays cenario offline, I found out 2 big cranes with cockpit on top. On both of them I found one elite welder and elite grinder inside cockpit. So if you happens to see if crane check the cockpits. (it's also booby trapped with sensor, just don't park the rover below the counterweight of a crane :D ). On second one ladders were broken so I built a ramp toward the cockpit, no sensor triggered :D
If you fill your backpack with whatever until full then grind the battery to hack. All the items should stay on the battery including the power cells.
Sadly that doesn't work for power cells, they'll still grind to scrap, it's just that the scrap won't end up in your inventory (until you come back to weld it up and have room for that scrap)
Is this server public?
Not that I'm not enjoying the SP scenario - I'd just like to interact and co-operate sometimes.
It's a supporter server (to limit reduce the risk of people griefing), any UA-cam member, Twitch subscriber or Patreon supporter can link their account to discord and find the details there. It's worth noting there's a time limit of 4 hours per week to keep progression more or less level between the players and myself, otherwise any interaction we may have would be them in something giant and me just saying 'hi'. This way we can do something more meaningful :)
The only problem is that this is once a week ... i need this once an hour
Fun Idea: Get together with other players and race some restored vehicles (pickup trucks, skudas, starting rovers, etc)
Oooh, I quite like that :)
@Splitsie can you fill your inventory before grinding down the battery so you don't pick up the components?
Sadly that doesn't work, the power cells will still grind to scrap :(
Please do make that odd wind turbine the same height as the others or so help me I'll have to *UNSUBSCRIBE!* 😅
lol Just think of it like it is: the first one. While it wasn't constructed as well as the others, there's a sentimentality to leaving it unique to remind me which one came first :D
dig through your inventory and remove all the Scrap Metal = there's no way to recover it into something usable unless Miki's Scrap is added
I'm going to add a use for it soon :)
8:49 Splitsie, you are deliberately not using landing gear. But can you make outriggers? I mean, subgrids touching ground could be even more dangerous
lol I'm tempted to build some, if nothing else automating their deployment could look cool :)
is this server public?
It's open to supporters (e.g. UA-cam members like yourself) so you just need to join the discord at discord.gg/zebramonkeys and connect your discord profile to youtube then you'll be able to see all the server info :)
If you go with the pallet idea, then maybe you could build a roof crane (like you have in a steel works), so you can have more pallets and not need to leave space to drive a forklift around.
Honestly I may do both eventually :D
Just because building that stuff is fun
When hacking batteries would it help if your inventory is full? Then you cannot take out components right?
You can't take components out but you can still destroy power cells :(
