About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spairit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx prograam, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
This should have more views. He explained it very well that there is more than one sign language in the world. The only problem was that when he used the American Sign Language sign for cheat that just means to have an affair. It's a different sign if you mean cheat at a game on or cheat on a test
I think his intent was only for the meaning of "cheating on someone", not actually cheating someone (like in a game or running a scam).
Mehki actually he did reference "to cheat someone" (as in steal or run a scam) when he referenced the fox
Robert Nicholson This was referenced in the video, it comes down to cultural differences. A foreigner to ASL may not necessarily know the meaning of a word, just the word. (Just like many foreigners use the wrong spoken word when visiting the US and making their best attempt at English). This is where context comes into play. If the signed sentence is "that man just stole a car" ... It's obvious, even if the wrong sign is used, what the meaning of the sentence is. The man obviously did not have an affair with the car.
Fabulous video. Thank you
TedTalks, you should put the URL to the site referenced at the end video in the video description. After all, that was the main purpose of the talk!
It's so educational Thank you for your input. !!!
There has been an American Sign Language To English dictionary since 1998, "The American Sign Language Handshape Dictionary" by R. A. Tennant & M. G. Brown.
You look up the English word based on the ASL handshapes & movements used in the sign.
The asl sign is "adultery"
