Excellent video! I grew up in Arizona seeing this and knowing about flash floods and yet I'm still amazed at people who continue to camp or recreate in low wash areas especially during monsoon season.
Great job of capturing all the little elements involved. I’ve been in two minor ones. They happen quickly in a desert environment near hills and mountains. We rode motorcycles when I was young. My Dad taught me things to observe.
Beautiful photos with the green colors of the desert plants that have just been "refreshed" by the rain. Excellent video. Thanks for making it and posting.
It looked like a beautiful garden, with the water as paths. You can see where the plants grow on the higher parts, even though there isn't a lot of rain, it still defines the places which are and aren't good for plants.
At the start of "The Secret Knowledge of Water" Craig Childs says "There are two ways to die in the desert: Thirst and Drowning." The desert is incredible and it's such a dynamic place that has floods written into it's very bones. Thank you for such an incredible video!

Spectacular documentation of the birth and lifespan of a desert flash flood! Lucky catches of an event that affected many in SoCal and AZ over the 18th and 19th. I was near Wickenburg for the floods on the 18th.
AZTrainGranny I was, lucky to be their at the right time. I knew the area well. I knew how long it had rained, more importantly I had a way out and a view down flood. Living in the desert we see these dry waterfalls all over the place. It's cool to see one with water over it, and even better to see it as it happen. I don't recommend people try this as I did because people do die from this silent killer ever year. Many times it happens miles away from any rain. Thank you for your post!
I can tell that's a clean area. some times these washes will set for years before they run in this ones case not a cigarette but not a beer can that some asshole decided they did not need .... nothing its looks almost pristine. nice vid by the way.

The desert is one of a few places where water disappears back into the earth and does not join a bigger stream. this video is about one hour or two of time. total dry earth next day.

Where were you? You had to be north of Ocotillo somewhere, Jojoba Wash or Moretero? Great video though, wish I had been out there. I have a place in Canebrake but no rain there.
+John Edwards I know what you mean I remember my dad having a computer that was 64 bits now they have sd chips the size of your pinky nail that can hold 128 gigs that will work in smart phones.....someone also told me that the reason we now have quad core and 8 core computers is because data is sent per electron and they need the extra cores channel lines to send more data. because we have maxed out what can be sent through a core channel to be prosssed.
Pity there's no contour swales or dams to hold and store the rain water, a series of dams might reduce flash flooding and restore moisture into the ground.
I was traped in a small valley when it hit. I didn't know the rain was coming. The water in Carrizo Creak moves towards the hwy, the way out. I stayed on the mountain sides of the creek and I know the area well, where the water falls are and the high ground also how much rain hand fallen. I had my truck to stay ahead of it, left it on high ground and always had an excape plan in mind. flash floors are dangerous and should be treated as such. I always asume the worst seanario and plan accordingly and if less then I'm covered. Plan for the unexpected.
@@RandomEndeavors Always good advice. Happy to hear you are cautious. Coming from New England I had trouble grasping just what a Flash Flood was like. After seeing some doozies on UA-cam however .. I finally understood... WOW .. They are killers for sure. Yup.... Always respect flash flood warnings.
