Theres a bit of a conspiracy theory in the US that the reason they keep raising healthcare and tuition costs is to ensure the only way the poor can afford either is to join the military, ensuring an endless stream of desperate people willing to put up with hell without question. I'd say that's crazy but I've seen hospitals that charge $100 for an off brand aspirin and jobs that expect you to spend $20k to get an associates degree for a janitorial job _and I wish that was a joke_
The Military should focus on the trades and allow their training to qualify for civilian certifications, such as construction, diesel mechanics, electricians, etc... I also believe it's all about conformity and should remain so.
@@HanSolo__ Technology has changed, but Armies still fight. Which is better at fighting? Do you prefer individual fighting style of warriors like the Huns or fighting like the Romans; a uniform, cohesive Army that crushed and conquered other Armies?
The " be all you can be" recruiting message of the late 90's and early 2000's was the best recruiting slogan. It tells you that with the army you can reach your full potential.
“Be all you can be” was for when we were off-post, trying to drink all that booze that our 1SG warned us about because, as he said, it would just get replaced so to not bother trying. Couldn’t be all you could be without giving it a good old Army go, though. Fond, frothy memories. Just like when we got warned about dating strippers and buying cars. Good times.
@@spoton6906 I remember late 90's a friend of mine came back to visit his hometown after he got out of basic. They'd warned him that he shouldn't buy a car (or especially a motorcycle), marry a stripper, or get in fights with the locals because his hands were now "deadly weapons". I'd spent the last year driving a Ford V8, dating strippers and throwing it down in my shadiest local dives while he was training to defend democracy. I demanded he follow in my path for that week and I bet he doesn't regret anything.
You see sergeant...... I would clean my barracks room, but I'm an individual, and that individual is messy. So the overflowing trash can of 3am's greatest internet searches, is gonna have to stay that way.

Why not just have a black screen. Wait wait hear me out. With the army logo, and then you play that badass army anthem. But seriously how have they made the commercials worse?
Some say, there will be a day with a huge black screen in all the theaters. A thrilling sound will raise and silver wolf head will start to appear on the black screen. Then the sound will shift into some insane Slavic folk music. They say it will be the day when White Wolf will be back... and people will start to cry...
Why do none of the Army Recruiting commercials show motor pool? "qualify for a Top Secret clearance, work on humvees" or "never have to do your job. Army motor pool Monday's... Through Fridays."
I dont think this "our soldiers are empowered individuals" is the best angle to go with since joining the military is all about being part of a team and operating as part of a unit. Unit cohesion. The advertising is pushing the opposite message of what joining an army is like mentally.
I saw the Call of Duty League (Competitive video game) had this commercial. That made me sad. The Army should not be allowed to sponsor a video game, especially a game like CoD...
The US military has such a hard on for customizable modular equipment They're convinced they want modular recruits who can be whatever they want on the fly, but since this IS the US military they're gonna take a tech specialist a frontline infantry man and make them use their laptop as a combination entrenching tool and ICBM
Without SOPs (aka non-individual) how can that Apache know where to put rounds on target in a close air support format. Or how can a unit productively be able to back up troops in combat. For a army to work you must have SOPs and people that left their individuality at the door and played by the rules to use a saying I’ve heard. The unit, mission, battalion, military branch, country has to be the driving force to join and thrive. Why the uniforms look the same in the beginning, your individuality comes into play at mastering a skill or your love of brother made you ignore danger or death and you went above what is required to protect him, then you get some fruit for your salad or some rank to make you a little different then someone else.
When I hear the new Army recruiting slogan, I am reminded of this: "Listen up, maggots. You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else."
You can still be an individual even as a part of a team but as a part of a team (for example, in the military) you have to know that you must put the team first. You can still use your individual skills but you have to use them in a way that benefits the team. Like, perhaps try not forcing the smallest guy in the squad to carry all the AT4s, just once? Please?
I think the older navy advert was batter. I think this needed to be refined more and plays too much on individuality and not enough on using your skills to work as a team like you said.
Just seeing this video. I hadn't thought of this aspect of the modern 18 year old. I am not going to say, my generation is better or anything like that, but the military has surpassed generations. The military should not conform to, today's 18 year old. It should be the other way around. For the last 250+ years, every generation going into the military has had to adjust their mindset upon entry. We have data showing it has worked. I do think things look bad at the moment for the military branches but I have faith in America if the time comes to defend our country. Even our young men and women, upon realizing their beautiful, free country is at risk will fall in line to defend it. I have become very anti-war over the years after deploying to all the modern battle fields, realizing war hurts civilians more than the military. The military will be well supplied and protected. I'm ranting.
I went in under Army of One and its funny all the old E-6 and above were all talking shit about that campaign. 😂 I think everyone likes the campaign that's not the current one. ?
I get your criticism but I don't they want people to know what to expect because they know the current generation won't like the reality of joining the army. Once you sign, you are in so that's a win for them. They don't care if the commercial misled them in to thinking the army is something else.
Perhaps they have overdone it but i guess with new more flexible fighting doctrines coming they want types who can think quickly and improvise on the battlefield.
i have to agree with your take on the new recruitment drives... but i believe EVERYONE needs to give at least 2 years of national service to this nation BEFORE they can call themselves citizen (that includes persons immigrating here too )... that doesn't mean you got to be in the military though...i believe we need to have every new generation go through a time where they give service to their community, their nation and i believe they would see that yes they are individuals but they are part of this community, this nation and that community and freedom (or at least what we think freedom is) is earned and needs to be defended...
In Poland, a candidate for president had a poster that says "Army will pay for your academy!"

In The Army You Are Only Allowed To Pick Your Nose When Told!
Should have said “Join the Army, make your individual/unique contribution to something bigger .. Team Army !”
Be the best you on is and has been for years a great general recruitment message. This individual stuff ain’t what the army is

Best slogan:
Service guarantees citizenship! Would you like to know more?
Then they wouldn’t have to pay for ads they could just write it on the other side of the wall
I just found those ads to be over propagandaized, like saying "The Replenisher" and showing epic CGI footage when it's literally just being a cook
