Stellar moments! Without memory we cannot have a civilisation. And music, painting - are part of that memory.” E. T. A. Hoffmann was writer - also worked - as a lawyer, composer, bandmaster, music critic, illustrator and caricaturist. With his novelistic works, Hoffmann is considered the most influential German narrator after Goethe. His works served as models for operas. Along with Robert Schumann, he was the most influential music critic of German Romanticism. Eduard Gaertner views of Berlin, created between 1828 and 1870, provide information about the historical appearance of the city in the Biedermeier era; worked with the precision of an architect; used the camera obscura as a technical drawing aid to prepare his pictures.
In the middle you can see the building framed by the two churches is the Berlin’s Royal Opera (horsemen on the staircase) - with some of the best acoustic quality of any building in the world.
What's the most remarkable about Hoffmann ( for me ) is that he analyzed Beethoven's Fifth Symphony - most likely without listening to an actual performance - and put Beethoven forward as the ultimate musical romantic. I need to study this more but I find this analysis is monumental for the musical history.
Yes you are right. According to Carl Dahlhaus, Hoffmann's review of Ludwig van Beethoven's 5th Symphony, published in 1810, was one of the "founding documents of romantic musical aesthetics"; literature about it: Carl Dahlhaus: Europäische Romantik in der Musik. Von E.T.A. Hoffmann zu Richard Wagner (= Oper und symphonischer Stil 1800-1850, Bd. 2), Metzler, Stuttgart 2007, S. 182.@@marikomariko3992
⚘️❤🌸❤🌸❤🌸 Vielen Dank Pau NG für ein Unglaublich HERRLICH SCHÖNES Meisterwerk in bester Aufführund! 🎨Tolles Bild!🎉🎉🎉🖋📃👑🖤🤍❤️👑....FABELHAFT!!!~🎻~ Brillant!!💫🍷🍷🍾🍾🎁🌺🌸🌺🌸🎉
"Comme d'habitude" me has hecho pasar un rato mágico.
Eduard Gaertner's painting is just marvellous, just like the music.
