It's like a comical Alford Hitchcock movie! I had the same problem to be in the crows today after it snowed in the seagulls came in it was It's fun watching the crows chase the seagulls away. Snow day! Backyard birds of Australia day! Birds can't help but love them.

I just love the Australian/Canadian buzz you have with your local wild birds. I’m U.K. and am so envious as we aren’t always able to have that kind of connection with our wild birds here but Robert Fuller (YT) in North Yorkshire really does. Your Kookaburras are a bigger, cheekier version of our U.K. kingfishers and your magpies are again cheekier and more reactive to human contact than ours.

That's so cool. All we have is sparrows, the occasional finch and chickadee, but they would never come near us. The closest they come is if we're sitting on the deck, then maybe a couple of female sparrows will hop the stairs and come to within 3 feet of my wife to remind us the bird feeder is empty. I have two adult magpies which just had 3 young (who finally have left mum and dad to fend for themselves) visit me daily. They have done this since I bought the house two years ago. One of the young magpies “knocks” at the back door to let me know he/she is there and would love a little treat! I can’t help but give them something, even though people tell me “ no, don’t feed them, they are wild birds”🙀

Meanwhile, the maggies told the dog there was a fox in the cypress. but I think they were telling porkies and just enjoying watching him try to find it. The guineas and the maggies have a strange relationship..... they fight an awful lot among themselves, but team up to deal with predators very effectively. With dusk, comes peace.
