I always thought that Dean and Sam didn't really get how serious this angel war was. Castiel always said ´I can't come I am in the middle of a war´ and they where just like `We are friends we need you so help us.´ . I know that Sam and Dean are the main chara's and their problems are more in focus and so on and so on. For me this clip just showed how hard all this was on Castiel and how much he tried to fight for something better. That is never simple or `clean`. But he is my hero for going on! His family isn't on his side and let's face it Sam and Dean? This guy basicly always fights alone and is still such a well meaning guy. If that always work out or not is another story.
Pfft ~ since when did Sam or Dean (especially Dean, and particularly post-S05) ever care about anyone except each other and 'the family business?' I pity anyone who ever crossed paths with them, because they were all nothing but fodder for the Winchester saga. And since Castiel keeps crossing paths with them repeatedly, he's the most ruthlessly exploited of them all. God, I wish they'd give him someone who cared about *him* for a change - either a sibling/sibling-like figure or a love interest. Poor guy needs at least one freakin' person on his side! Not that that'll ever happen; he'll probably end up dying so that Heaven and Hell can both be permanently sealed off or something. Such is the fate of characters who're more plot devices than people...

When Castiel swallowed all the purgatory souls, Dean started talking about how many times he almost died for Castiel- but he probably didn´t realised that Castiel really died for him for more than one time. Before that in that fire circle, he was like "why didn´t you tell me? we would solve it" but Castiel told him so many times and they were angry because he wasn´t helping them.
Sorry for the late response, but thank you for initiating such an intense discussion, Tiana :) I love that my video made people feel so strongly, because despite being a Dean-Girl I was completely outraged by his behaviour in this episode and my entire feelings were for Cas that day - so much so that I just vid this quickly after the episode without much planning or effects or anything, just to get the frustration out there that no matter what Cas did, it was wrong according to everyone, though no one stepped up to help him. He was treated very wrong and his intentions were completely ignored and derided, and it was very difficult for me to deal with, so this... OMG this is amazing, I have tears in my eyes right now. "Never free, never me" - describes Cas so perfectly. Somehow everyone expected him to do as he was told, to follow orders, and then just once he made a mistake and he was, well... unforgiven. Which is crazy when you see how many mistakes both Sam and Dean and many other characters have made. It's just that Cas always seemed so perfect to everyone, and they failed to see that despite his being an angel, he was still human somehow.
At first I didn't like that what happened with Castiel that season, and though he might not ever again have the same trust level with the Winchesters, I have to say it was a very interesting development for the character. He did have his reasons. The stakes called for drastic measures, so I found it easy to forgive Cas.
+JC Denton Cas always meant to do the right thing, and simply did not know how - and no one he asked, whether God or Dean or anyone else, offered any sort of help, leaving this huge burden on his shoulders. And then when he did something, it went wrong and became ONLY his fault. I think it was a very strong plot point for him, one of his most quietly but heavily damaging emotional storylines, and even though I'm not the biggest Cas fan or anything, I was really moved by his situation and just HAD to do something to vent. Hence this vid... which is just going strong even after so many years! Thanks for watching, and I'm sorry I'm writing back so late!

I'm not the most driven Cas-fan - I like him but not really more than that, I was most impacted by his character in this ep. I made this video with very little planning or song-searching or even time. Everything just came together for me given how troubled and helpless he was at this time and how tough it is for a true warrior to stay his course over personal feelings. So as an unbiased watcher, I would say thing was one of his lowest - yet strongest - points on the series... very intense, very brutally emotional.
