Black Magic is a bunch of software engineers. They may have the thing already in the BRAW and supported in Resolve and just need to turn it on. It may have been turned off because somebody somewhere may have a soon to expire patent and Black Magic ain't paying dem royalties for a software feature.
the crucial thing most people don't grasp with Gyro stabilization is that it requires a high shutter speed or low shutter angle; however, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, because something that hasn't been talked about a whole lot is how this same gyro motion data can also be used to create motion vectors that can add post adjustable camera motion blur. The only remaining factor is object motion, and there are many existing techniques for doing edge based motion vectors that when combined with the camera motion vectors can give one a very convincing post motion blur. In fact it's easier to do this as a computational photography post effect than most of the artificial depth of field effects done by most phones, because in this case we are after soft blurred edges in most situations.
This would change the game for me... Such upgrade could more than make up for not having an IBIS which some people miss quite a bit. Yes I know the reasons for that but this could take the product line to new heights if marketed right.
I think its already being lowkey implemented, you can stabilize moving footage without a gimbal really really well in Davinci using image Stabilization.
I private messaged a contact I got at Blackmagic a team and a project manager in Singapore and asked him to see the video and to send it to relevant people in the company. And also that we as customers and community want this. Sign under thus with like or a comment in case people from Blackmagic view these comments.
You know what would be so sick if companies did? If they replied to these things and explained why it's difficult to do if it is difficult or why they prefer not to do it even if they can. Transparency of vision and goals would be massively appreciated by us, their customers. I left Canon because they never added the 10bit to the C200, probably a simple enough thing to do and I know many others who left them as well. Blackmagic which seems to be pretty forward thinking company should capitalise on this and be super transparent, their customers would love it.
100%! They've talked about it before. So I just wanted to bring it up again to hopefully get more people interested in this potential feature. TBH, I'm surprised the 12k doesn't have this especially being billed as a VFX camera
If I remember correctly from an old NAB interview, when Blackmagic originally released the Ursa 4.6K they talked about having an internal gyro that could be used to help with post stabilization. They actually said that was part of the reason they added the .6K extra resolution. Nothing ever seemed to come on it.
Oh man, I think I remember that. That's super interesting. Honestly would be such and interesting idea to add in. Some of this tech will be the future one day
@@FrameVoyager I hope they implement it. I fly my pocket 4k on an fpv drone, and I would love to have a built in solution for stabilization instead of steadxp.
Wait, are you telling me I don’t need steady x on top of my bmpcc to fly fpv? There’s is a app called gyroflow that use gyro data from any camera to stabilize videos. Does the Blackmagic have thus gyro data build in? It is there anyway to extract that information?
When they say they "can add it as a feature" I think it really means that it goes on a list, not that "it can be done", or even will be done. I have received the same email on other items and they have never come to fruition.
Oh, for sure I probably should have worded that better. But still, I would think it would be an interesting feature for them to add in. Especially if the Gyro data is already there. Like just unlock it for us and we can go somewhere else to use it. But yeah, I've asked them other technical questions in the past with stuff like this and it took them like days to respond. I got this back in about an hour so I thought that was interesting. Could be nothing but who knows haha
I'll admit I was dubious, but it's just been announced along with the new camera - gyro data is going to be usable in the next Resolve beta + the new firmware update
Any experience with the XLR port not working after a BM4K software update???? noting no port abuse, tested on several different microphones and no sound. 3.5 port still works.
is there a complete data on how to stabilize bmpcc4k or 6k gyrodata (how to record and setup properly) and how to post-process and edit in resolve later on to achieve correct results? can we have a link please? thank you
Great video. This feature will require an update to the file format itself to include that data in it, so it will definitely require updates to both cameras and software like Resolve (and 3rd parties). This might not always work but it's not like you have to use it. Just like anything, you'd need to test it in your setup to see if it works for the shot you're trying to get. I do have one question though, was that a Microsoft Surface? If you're going to place a product like that in your video, you should get them to pay. Microsoft lovvvess paying for product placements.
I need this gyro data from my pocket 4k! When my pocket can look like rsgo I'll be amazed. Tried on gyroflow with a different gyro source and had a horrible time trying to sync the gyro and footage. Thank you for bringing attention to this topic!

@@FrameVoyager Yeah, especially with the shots that have movement. Current stabilizer struggles time to time in some situations. This would eliminate many of them for sure!

the email you got back from BM indicates absolutely nothing that would mean they're adding this as a feature. They said added as a feature request which means it's not even being worked on yet- but rather still in consideration which factors community desire, their own team seeing use, and if its possible code. In other words, probably a 10% chance it's ever added. Thats not to be negative, tis just how these companies work. The jargon they've responded with really means nothing.
