    7 Years after the events, (and 4 years after his Twitch Ban) DrDisrespect is back in the news over his conduct in 2017... leading to one of the fastest collapses of gaming stardom ive ever seen.
    From humble beginnings, to internet super-status... DrDisrespect is an example of how the court of public opinion can make or break someone in the blink of an eye. What he actually did, and the extent his conduct may always be somewhat of a mystery, but today we discuss the rise (and rapid fall) of DrDisrespect.

      Did you really just say that the internet is a proper court, and the people in it are a jury? surely you are not that dumb.
      This person went to a real court and "no wrongdoing" was established. But you didnt seem to mention that at all. How could someone who took twitch to court come out with a verdict like that? Well using some basic logic there are 3(at least) plausible scenarios.
      1. The age of the user was never established in the conversations(most likely was the case)
      2. The messages by the defendant (Guy) were benign in nature. As in the messages sent by them are non sexual or neutral.
      3. not enough evidence to substantiate the claims of criminal activity or wrongdoing had occurred.
      The reason twitch could still ban him is that the messages could still break their TOS regardless of wrong doing or intent.
      But of course mentioning any of this ^ wouldnt be sensational enough for the likes and subscribes to keep this channel afloat, right?
      Lets also point out a few other facts, this cody guy also was promoting information about this in order to get people to show up at his live event. So he was dangling this information for self promotion. Definitely something a credible person would do right? source: reddit . com/r/Asmongold/comments/1dmqcmm/cody_conners_who_leaked_docs_ban_reason_is/
      Another interesting bit is you showed some messages with a content creator(a s*x worker) leena love. you can find her youtube handle at the end of the clip you shared. This person is not claiming THEY were a minor. No what they are claiming is that he was dangling a promotional deal for sexual content. But in the messages she shared there is no such "deal" being proposed. But it doesnt seem like you did any kind of research around this or maybe you omitted on purpose for those likes I mentioned above...
      I think you could've done ground . com proud by making the video neutral instead of sensationalizing the content. but that doesn't get people viewing the video does it?

      It still sucks that Twitch still didn't do anything despite all this. Texting a minors had always been common ever since they allow Bathtub streams. Even if they DIDN'T let it happen in their Whisper? They can still do in third-party platform.
      Dr Disrespect is the bad apple but just one out of millions of rotten apple still laying out... However what sucks is DrDisrespect popularity makes people blind to the one fact...
      "This happens in Twitch Whisper"

      @HellDuke- 3 місяці тому +20

      That's a much more complicated matter than most people would like to consider or admit. On the one hand, Twitch requires your date of birth. Some people will argue that it's not enough because you can just lie, but I bet the same people would not like their privacy being impacted, which would be mandatory in order to satisfy what they ask for. I believe more robust age verification was mandated in certain states in the US and maybe some countries, and it got loads of flak for being a breach of privacy. In this scenario, it all really comes down to one simple fact: did Doctor Disrespect know or had a reason to suspect that the other party was a minor prior to any of the infringing messages. If no, then he should be entirely off the hook and Twitch is to blame. If yes, then the fallout, while extreme, is not unwarranted.

    Even though he admitted to texting a minor and occasionally being inappropriate, I still find it really weird that twitch didn't get the police involved. • @toomanyaccounts
      @toomanyaccounts 3 місяці тому

      Another issue is if he all he did was flirt with the minor in a way like "hey, I think you look cute in a skirt" Etc, well....yeah that is creepy. But technically, not against the law. I assume that is why doc was so adamant on saying no pics or videos were asked to be taken, as well as no physical contact happened.
      So unless the messages were him manipulating her to be very sexual towards him, then technically, the cops can't do anything. He needs to cross certain lines for legal action to occur, and even though he likely is a sleeze ball, the law is the law. It's like if an older guy says a little girl is cute with a creepy face. OK, gigantic red flag, stay away from him, but cops can't arrest him for that either. Sucks, but it is what it is. Just my suspicion.

He got arrested 3 weeks later and has to register for the rest of his life along with the bartender and two bouncers that she went down on to let her slide on the ID. Turns out she was 17 and her parents just couldn’t admit their princess was a 3 oh 4.

      This is the part people aren't considering.
      Twitch swept under the rug the fact that someone who was under TOS age was on their app, and then paid hush money to doc with a legal gag order to prevent it being talked about.
      Another often forgotten part of this is how Doctor Disrespect pursued a lawsuit against twitch, which resulted in the settlement. That means that he had something on Twitch to begin with. At no point did he state he was aware that this individual was a minor while he was texting them on an app for adults. It's possible he discovered it after the fact. It's the classic case of hitting on a minor who snuck into the bar with a fake id and being labeled the bad guy. Did he know? If he knew when the inappropriate messages occurred, that means he willfully and intentionally did the wrong thing. If it was discovered between the lawsuit and the settlement in discovery, then it's a bad look on everyone, but he at least has benefit of the doubt.
      The reality is that we still don't have sufficient evidence to come to a final conclusion, but that's irrelevant in the court of public opinion - where cases and livelihoods are based on opinions, not a legal process.

      Twitch hasn't said anything you dufus, so they can't be sued for slander/libel. It was a former employee that made the first statement and considering DD's company dropped him, it seems there is indeed something there. If you want the DM's released, ask DD to release them, he has all of them and from his own admission shouldn't be bound by the agreement. There are plenty of reasons for twitch to not want this to get out, most of it for realistic business reasons but doesn't need to be nefarious including:
      1) The fact that twitch can read people's whispers anytime which they may believe are private
      2) At the time this was going down was the whole COPA business, and handling minor's communication would have been a big issue legally with a lot of uncertainty
      3) The fact that not only this was a major streamer they had a contract with was sending innapropriate messages to a minor, but organizing a face to face meeting of all places at freaking twitchcon.
      4) Twitch is trying to promote itself to be friendly to all ages, instead its a clear indication that predators are on their platform, including people with influence. Not the best message to get out.
      5) By stopping DD from meeting this person, they actually helped DD avoid legal issues but in turn made Twitch's case harder as DD switched his stance to "I never meant it, was never going to really meet this person". For the most part, talking to an underage person is not illegal, its when you take the further actions that would have exposed him. (btw if DD thought she was an adult, he could have claimed already that but he hasn't which leads me to believe that he knew she was a minor during at least some part of his conversation).
      Those are easy to figure out, and I am sure they have many more reasons why it was better to keep this quiet. I think Twitch was wrong to keep this hidden, but there are plenty of reasons why its a bad business decision to reveal this that don't involve some nefarious intent.

    At this point, it's now in Doc's ballpark to have to now provide more details. He doesn't get to come back and pretend he starts from a clean slate since he confirmed it with vague details. If he doesn't, his care is up faster than EDP.
    There is still a way it turns out in his favor for redemption if he explains, hopefully with receipts, what the vagueness is and why he is being so vague. Did he know this person was a minor? And what exactly was inappropriate? Was it X rated, or was it like 💀 👶 jokes? But the fact he has been vague in his tweet really doesn't look good. And if it isn't as bad as it sounds, he may have just killed his career over a premature publish by not providing details. And it could be too late with a lot of sponsors.
    He thought he could just drop that tweet with no details and was going to come back with sponsors, but he is probably learning the hard way of how PR works.

    • @sultanofswing7198

    • @XFerginatorX
      @XFerginatorX 3 місяці тому +1

      @sultanofswing7198 I know in the beginning when before, during, and after the lawsuit Twitch more than likely gave him an NDA offer that he takes the money and he doesn't say a word about the reason why. I've had those with layoffs, hush money is 100% legal.
      But sin e two Twitch employees broke the agreement and spoke it now means Twitch violated so he can speak openly. So he should've had no issue giving the details. There is always the claim that Twitch says they aren't responsible for what employees do without authorization and try to claim the gag is still in effect, but any good lawyer, even Doc could afford, would laugh at that and say nope employees are a representation and extension of the company so it would be on Twitch.
      So, at this point, he needs to provide all the receipts, or he can come back from his vacation with all his sponsors gone. No fancy tough guy tweet like "you know me", "they are trying to keep me down", "I'll come back better than ever" is going to help him. Either that dude tells the truth or he better start renting rooms with EDP when his wife takes the kids and alimony. His career is now on the line, if not already over.

      That's not how legal stuff works, and we don't even have any evidence to reliably or accurately measure anything by. So far it's just hearsay, but from enough sources for it to seem legitimate. It was ILLEGAL for him to say anything, and it would be extremely taboo or maybe illegal for others to speak about it as well. So give everyone else a break, they didn't ask to be labeled that by anyone. And they aren't defending it either.
      I think there's things we can say about the doc, that he isn't smart enough to say about himself either. The fame and fortune went to his head, completely. 200%. He cheated on his wife with someone younger, and as we now know, chatted with someone else of an illegal age. But we will never know if it is 5 years or just 1; and i really wanna know.
      Maybe it is because i am norwegian, but in our country? The legal age is 15, but you CAN sue if you want to up until 18 i believe. If the other party is of a way higher age, don't quote me on that. The real issue here is to what degree he actually was f'ked up. And this is where i actually think it IS ok to not just catch a predator the way you do out in the wild. But it is like 500% blatant proof that "the person" was gonna be "an actual p3do".
      In the end, I would or WILL be glad if the evidence showcase him to be blatant. Then this all make sense and the outrage is justified. If it's like this meager bullshit, and the person will turn 18 in whatever short time? Then i am from OUR norwegian cultural norms, actually blown away.
      But hey, Americans get to drive before they get to drink so i take this matter VERY seriously but i don't take America seriously anymore.

    There's no other performer like him, and I feel like I'm the only person who values art for the sake of itself. So I think it's tragic that allegations of inappropriateness can destroy that.
    Unfortunately speaking from this pov gets a lot of "cope" responses, but I'm trying to cope with losing original art more than anything to do with his character.
    I don't have to cope with him being scummy because nothing he did was worse than anything promoted by Nickelodeon or Disney, or every single AAA game studio for that matter. I had to cope when Apex put their agenda flags in a game I loved while the cities burned in the name of those flags. I had to cope with developers I liked being cruel to customers for not being on board with their twisted agendas. I don't need him to be a virtuous person to see his artistic value. Doesnt matter that it's something silly like game streaming; it's original, and his work obviously holds a lot of meaning to his audience.
    There are worse people, SIGNIFICANTLY worse people, being let off every day by a dysfunctional legal system. This isn't just a what aboutism. It's just… how much can I really care about one artist being skeezy when there is so much injustice signed off on by the same people condemning him? I cant walk and chew gum, sorry. I'm disturbed every day by lies through omission by powerful people and useful idiots who think they're winning by covering for another crimer. I think your average journalist is guilty of so much more than DrDisRespect is, and that includes the DMs leaked today. That goes for the schools and AAA game companies that will probably retaliate and ban him if he streams their games. Hell, I'm more disturbed by the passive acceptance that it's okay for devs to read our messages freely, despite proving that they'll only use them against us if we make them mad, not if they find us doing anything wrong. If he fooled around with that wo/man, I find that person's actions more disgusting too, for deciding to clamor for the spotlight by "exposing" him for having a weird fetish and showing really embarrassing private messages. But these failures of character and petty revenge get no pile-on by social media, so it must be okay, right
    I just don't know how people muster up this much care about his alleged carnal proclivities in a world this twisted. It just seems like everyone's putting on a performance to disavow, like our values have all been decided by the amoral blue hairs we laughed at ten years ago. We have to signal because signaling is what shows you're on the right side. I don't matter so I won't signal. I have nothing to lose by saying that the bar should be exceptionally high for original art to fall to twitch jannies.
    His audience should decide his success, but the market isn't free, so it looks like we're having another unique talent squashed by twitch goblins and a moral code decided by TOS and social capital.

I should have said that the response to these kinds of interpersonal issues is to appease social media, advertisers, and investors, meaning that partnerships will be severed, products will be cancelled over those factors rather than what the audience wants. I am in favor of responding to the audience rather than the third parties who only show up when things go wrong.
      However, if a public figure continues in spite of the controversy, that is usually when you see a heavier hand, in the form of bans, partnerships against them, and tortious interference

    • @jordang8730
      @jordang8730 3 місяці тому +5

      I'm not sure of the timelines but I'm pretty sure the only reason they HAD to sign him was because they were under the threat of mixer. Once mixer was no longer a threat and they had something in their back pocket to use against doc, they pulled it. Obviously it became a game of chicken(you don't want your audience to find out, no, you don't want YOUR audience to find out), I think doc called the bluff, knowing what he'd done was wrong but not grounds to terminate the contract.
      I'm honestly not a fan of doc but I was back when PUBG was relevant. I think he still feels a lot of guilt for that 2017 era and he didn't want to deflect blame, but at the same time he doesn't feel that he should be crucified for this so his "apology" came off as very standoffish.
      It's an interesting dilemma if we assume all the worst, what is an appropriate response here? I don't think any sacrifices have to be made. As long as he does his mea culpas and clears up the ambiguity, I'd rather not see him be deplatformed.

    • @NeightrixPrime
      @NeightrixPrime 17 днів тому

      Here's an explanation that actually makes sense: Twitch banned him because they hate him. Ask anyone who watched at the time, or find the drama from when Twitch would shut off his stream or suspend him for bogus reasons. The banning was a snap judgement.
      Later, in court, they CLAIM the ban was from some DM's 3 years earlier. Why do they claim this? Because they're trying NOT to pay him millions of dollars. You know what that means? It means those DM's to that one person are the worst thing they could find on his whole account. And as the Doc said, the state found no wrongdoing and those DM's were not a valid excuse to terminate contract. People just don't understand how civil court works, and for some reason think Twitch lawyers making a claim in court makes it true.
