I know it’s probably a huge dose of confirmation bias coupled with Laura’s delivery of the card descriptions but the fact that these tarot cards have been weirdly spot on or at least relevant every time she’s used them is an amazing aspect of the story and I’m living for it
You can see Marisha's desire to scream at Sam steadily increasing for the entire duration of Veth's "date" with Yasha. That was some beautiful trolling.
@@lucasmaloneywordsmith8661 It's a full sensory experience, I can practically taste the pencil she was biting toward the end. Marisha's wishing she could violate social distancing to punch Sam is palpable.
Watch Lucien's face when Jester says "Tyrant." It goes from confidence and coolheaded to pure hidden anger. It's beautifully subtle, the TINIEST, change in demeanor speaks volumes to the inner machinations of Lucien's mind.
I love that you can tell the difference between Beau-chipping-away-at-his-patience anger and the disturbed/upset anger when he gets Jester's Tarot reading. With Beau it's because she's being a dick and it's not funny anymore and always antagonizing. he wants to kill her because usually he would by this point, but he can't. But with Jester it's the way it's delivered. Lucian believes heavily in fate and luck, and has believed, at least partly, that he was destined to come do this. And so Jester, in a completely fate-controlled way, tells him he will be changing course in the Death card offends him and disturbs him greatly. His whole destiny is being changed and she has the audacity to comfort him about it? She couldn't have planned this, it's not a fake reading. Through this Teifling, he saw the death of his dream, not only himself. And that hurt him. I wouldn't be surprised if he acts differently from here on out, or at least try to cover it up
The way Jester prefaced that she learned tarot reading from Molly and gave Lucien an out added to the gravitas of what's to come. For all intend and purposes, Jester was being genuine. And I am sure Lucien can see that. Which would make the reading more impactful. And Matt aka Lucien was the one who draw (roll) the card too!
Some people were complaining on Reddit about Sam "breaking immersion" by messing with Marisha/Ashley. Yet the cast were burping while Jester did her tarot reading, and some of the best/funniest moments have been utter 4th wall breaks. Go figure. I love how much of a troll Sam is.
And it’s not like they wouldn’t talk amongst themselves if there was an issue? Sam likes to troll but he likes to make his friends laugh the most, it’s not like there would be a big sticking point if Marisha or Ashley wanted him to knock it off at any point.
Yeah, like people forget that this is just friends playing a game like they would at home. This isn't a written show or anything, it's improv and friends just goofing around and making a nice story.
It’s a pretty silly thing for them to complain about. Even if Sam is trolling, is it so hard to believe that Veth would want to show Yasha she cares for her? Nott/Veth has been the most openly distrusting of Yasha since early on in the campaign, so I actually think it’s nice that Veth wants to show her some love and appreciation, regardless of Sam’s motivations. Besides, Sam is taking full advantage of the comedy in character ignorance; Veth has no idea about what’s going on with Beau and Yasha at the moment, and neither of them have taken it upon themselves to enlighten her. So, Sam’s just riding the wave, and it’s hilarious!
I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't see Lucien's hand twitching twice as a sign of Molly still being in there, I saw it as Matt trying to convey Lucien's level of discomfort of how accurate the reading was, especially since he has been stoic and arrogant up until this point.
I agree. When it happened I didn't think of Molly at all. It just seems like he was uncomfortable with the death card. Especially when the previous two card was accurate.

And we still get the chaos of Laura Bailey in that she designed the rest of the deck that Taliesin didn't get to earlier on. I do believe they worked together on polishing the system, but still, super cool collaborative project between two GREAT roleplayers..
Swear to Goddesses sometimes it feels like Campaign 2 is a group project between the Knowing Mistress (Ioun, goddess of knowledge and stories) and the Changebringer (Avandra, goddess of luck and freedom).
Okay, so for a little more context on the tarot reading: Lucien's Past card (with a roll of 9) was History and a Dream. Literally a depiction of the Calamity, with the collapse and destruction of Aeor, and a mention of the dream of the Somnovum (translated from Latin: Sleeping Nine). His Present card, with a roll of 1, was the Tyrant card, with the Red dragon facing him which according to the Forgotten Realms Fandom wiki "were covetous, evil creatures, interested only in their own well-being, vanity and the extension of their treasure hoards. They were supremely confident of their own abilities and were prone to making snap decisions without any forethought." And his Future card, with rolls of 18 and 1, was Death. In traditional tarot sets it can be a portent of coming good fortune and is considered one of the most powerful major arcana cards in the deck, usually representing the end of one thing and the beginning of another. However, considering the way Molly's cards are drawn, with each card having a clear definition for both the normal and reverse orientation, having Death face you can only be a bad omen for Lucien. As for the hand twitching, I have no concrete idea. It being a reaction by one or 2 of the eyes on that hand makes the most sense as each eye seems to represent one of the Somnovum. I doubt it was Lucien trying to detect any deceit or magic as he could do so with only a tilt of his head to dispel 2 polymorph spells. And Sadly I doubt it was Molly, though I do love the idea of the hand twitching being Molly trying to give Lucien a one-finger salute or laughing his ass off at Lucien's sudden crisis of faith/confidence.
SPOILER I mean.... now after the end.. this damn Tarot reading is so fated... also your explaining is really good for ore if the things also apply to exandria still. But hot damn.. after the last battle there is sure a way to see Molly as the twitching hand... besides that.. having Death as the future card is only fitting for this body. Somthing old dies, something new araise.
With the amount of times (in both campaigns) where the dice have rolled exactly what was needed to maximize story impact, I'm convinced their dice are sentient.
So... One thing I recently saw mentioned about the Three Cards was that during the final battle. When Jester called out the reading to Lucien, Lucien replied that it was BS, that the cards were forced. But while Jester later says she was making things up, she wasn't doing it in the way Molly would with his Forced Pulls. But in the way of someone trying to find the mystic out of the cards. Those Pulls of Lucien's were true fate...
i am not one to jump into the 'bring Molly back' bandwagon, but _he twitched, twice_ i think the cards were freakishly on point, to the degree that Mercer had to lay in that little tidbit Molly's in there, i believe it now, and there may be a way to bring them back, those twitches are not a pointless detail, that's groundwork that's the last card, Death, _which may signify a rebirth_
Not to mention , Lucien isn't really being clear on why hes keeping them around, (obviously because of the threshold crest) but i think its that part of molly coming out, keeping them around because that part of him knows them
About the twitch. Molly was a fragment of Lucien that recounted being "empty" after he woke up, but that went away. My idea is Molly grew from a fragment of a soul to a whole soul and when he was reconstituted into Lucien he could now be much more difficult for Lucien to control. So there may be a struggle for dominance going on in addition to bleedthrough. Like, Lucien may be keeping the M9 around as a threat to Molly which has now backfired. Or he feels some familiarity. Either or. But yeah, theres definitely something in there and Id think discounting Talison retaking Molly as his character isnt too far out there.
That tarot card reading is oddly comforting. Like maybe there is a chance to bring molly back and the Mighty nein do have a fighting chance against Lucien.
The best I'm expecting tbh is a moment where Lucien is about to fuck up the party and Molly forces himself out to waste the turn, telling them to "stop him" or something

Spoilers That future card during the reading seems more relevent post 138. The Nein thought rebirth would mean killing lucien and resurrecting Molly and Luciens reaction was his fear of that. I think its more revealing Luciens motives as shown at the end of 138 and what he did to the Cognouza! Killing the Somnovem to rebirth Cognouza in his image, under his rule!
When perfect "coincidences" like this happen, it just makes it harder for me to try and believe this is all "live and unplanned" Some of it has to be, there is no way it can't be planned. Its more fun viewing the show as true unplanned random dnd, but sometimes the suspension of disbelief is just slapped out of your hands. Just my thoughts...
DnD has dices for something. It can change the whole plan you had for the session, even for the DM. Some things are planned of course, but do you really think they would be enjoying themselves that much if they knew what would happen all the time? Besides, its Tarot. Almost every card can be related to the person, you just have to know how to do that (and its easier when you know what the person in question is like and what they have been doing)
I mean this respectfully, but it's just so weird to me that anyone can be convinced the show is planned because of scenes like this. Is it really _that_ outlandish for coincidences to happen? Is it any more outlandish than believing that everyone involved with the show is being dishonest, even though they have no reason to be?
The cards are designed in such a way to make it seem like it is magical or impossible. But almost anything she pulled would have worked similarly. I mean the Tyrant with the dragons has no specific meaning to him
So you’re saying they memorise all the lines and acting for a 3+ hour episode, just one week prior? Listen, not even blockbuster movie actors can do that. They’re voice actors, not superhuman.

I think its more revealing Luciens motives as shown at the end of 138 and what he did to the Cognouza! Killing the Somnovem to rebirth Cognouza in his image, under his rule!
When perfect "coincidences" like this happen, it just makes it harder for me to try and believe this is all "live and unplanned"
Some of it has to be, there is no way it can't be planned.
Its more fun viewing the show as true unplanned random dnd, but sometimes the suspension of disbelief is just slapped out of your hands. Just my thoughts...
The dice tell stories, my friend.
I look forward to these just as much as the whole episode
