    Eugenics makes two invalid assumptions: 1) Humans are able to determine what is best for all humans, 2) Every trait can be clearly defined as 'good' or 'bad'. When humans use selective breeding on other animals, aka animal eugenics, we are not trying to improve a breed. We are trying in strengthen a trait which we find beneficial. The benefit or detriment to the animal is irrelevant to us.

    Could we get a video on Glenn T Seaborg? Ive asked several times over the years. Seaborg helped discover 10 elements, including plutonium and developed the process to extract it for the Manhatten project. Hes one of only two men to have an element named after him while alive. Was the head of the AEC, rearranged the periodic table, and advised 11 presidents on nuclear policy. I think he'd be a good topic for a video.

    • @pariah30
      @pariah30 Рік тому +3

      As much as I agree... Seaborg is no longer the only person to have an element named after them while alive. He'll always be the first but Yuri Oganessian, the namesake for element 118 (Oganesson), is currently alive and the second person to receive that honor and is the only person currently living to have an element named after them.

      No problem. I find it fascinating and I'm happy to share the info with someone who might appreciate it. I'm a chemistry major and wrote a paper that discusses Oganessian and Seaborg as well as the scandal over 118 (look up the Victor Ninov scandal, its very interesting and would make a good video in its own right), the theoretical island of stability and superheavy elements.
      Seaborg absolutely deserves to be covered, his contributions are invaluable to science.

    My moms family used to take in foster kids during the depression, tw?two of them were biracial. One was my uncle Myron the other found a family and was adopted. Both had white mothers and both of the mothers were sterilized for giving birth to black babies. It made them one of the undesirables considered of low morals. Plus of course they didn't want them to do that again

    As a long time viewer I have to say I do prefer Simons style of presenting. It feels like Karl is tele-prompt reading much more. I agree with some of the comments in that I have difficulties hearing what Karls says. I'll stop by a few more time probably - not sure if I'll stick around (sorry Karl)
    That being said - all the best in your future endeavors

    The interesting thing about the UK avoiding Eugenics is that while they avoided at home... they sure didn't mind allowing it to be used in Colonial and Semi-Sovereign Imperial States like Canada and Australia. Canada has a very dark history of abusing Eugenics to "regulate genetic hygiene."

    Not surprised Stalin's opinionated on eugenics was what it was. The Soviet Union operated on the principle of quantity over quality and maximizing the production of meat for the meat grinder was much more critical than maximizing the quality of top shelf stock.

    It be nice to double check the sound level on a final edit - on a few videos the transition music is considerably higher than the dialogue…I find myself turning the music down then back up its quite annoying :)

      These ideas were generally popular on the left at the time (the actual opposition from the right was the Christians) but obviously had to be abandoned due to association after WW2 (though the main period of drop off was the depression as many of the 'right sort' lost everything and their fellows weren't exactly going to apply the logic to their chums).
