      Oh hii Simon XD Dirk Gentlys really Needs a third Season! I love the show and its characters! The plot is awesome in both seasons... I really dont get why the quotes were that low… :/ They really should consider the Netflix quotes as well… I really hope they will continue the series… It deserves it!

      Okay, I have said this in a comment above but I'll be lazy and copy/paste it here too.
      Dirk Gently is shite. I do not get why people like it. The UK version was miles ahead of the Max Landis' overacting one. If only the BBC didn't dump it on BBC Four at daft o' clock.
      The UK one was actually funny, the story was in line with Douglas Adams' style of humour and it was bit silly but still smart in its writing.
      I only watched 4 episodes of the US version and I couldn't suffer any more than that. It was TERRIBLE. The guy playing Dirk is like that child who is screaming constantly for his Mammy to notice him.
      F*%K THAT!

    • @PunksterOS
      @PunksterOS 6 років тому +3

      avolea
      Yes, I have a different opinion, why do you feel the need to engage with me if this is oh so tiring for you? Is it because you like the show, perhaps? :'( Diddums.
      If there are multiple versions of the same source material, then you are going to get comparisons, so toughen up. The world isn't your echo chamber.

    • @Spamhard
      @Spamhard 6 років тому +1

      Punkster Just gonna fix this for you: "In my opinion Dirk Gently is shite." There we go :D

    • @PunksterOS
      @PunksterOS 6 років тому

      avolea
      I'm not the one who finds it "Tiring," Though, am I? So no, the same logic cannot be used against me. I am not the one complaining about hearing different opinions, YOU ARE! I was voicing my opinion, you are welcome to disagree and share yours but you are the one who says you find it tiring. Are you new to UA-cam comments or something? This is usually what happens, people with differing opinions engage. I prefer respectful discourse, you clearly do not.
      This is like talking to a child.
      You say you agree, yet this was your response? You couldn't just have said that, you had to claim how tiring it was hearing someone who disagrees' opinion? The problem lies solely with you, mate. I am not telling others what to think or what to like, I am voicing my opinion, same as everyone else and I copy pasted because I noticed what I said in my own post could apply here, which I already explained. Why is that so ridiculous? Seems like you are looking for anything to justify your original, childish outburst.
      Comparing things that are based on ONE source material is strange to you, is it? So, do you think that those who compared Ghostbusters 2016 with the original were just being strange do you or is there a good reason to compare them?
      Look how much you are trying to justify what you said, that is what is really ridiculous. It is a shame as well, if you weren't such a reactionary, we could have had a civil conversation. If it wasn't too tiring for you, of course.
      You can tell it is the defenders of the show who are siding with you as well because your whole argument is total shite, so it cannot be that.
      @Spam
      My opinion is my opinion, you can't fix anything when there is nothing to fix. Your comment is shite. :)

    Yeah Dirk Gently is a ton of fun. Its idiosyncrasies both story and character wise are quite endearing. Do you like the second season more than the first? I find the first season to be a bit more focused and as such I think I prefer it over the second season. I'll defintiely give Limmy's show a watch that seems right up my alley. I've been quite enjoying the expanse recently on Netflix. A scfi which is a hybridization of different narrative modes such as, detective mystery, political thriller, character driven space opera thrown in with some engaing action and set pieces. It has great production value and there's a lot of organic world building with an engaging central conflict to boot. You might like it. Bojack Horsemen if you haven't given that a watch definitely do so as well.

    Hey Nit Pix! I think you should totally check out a British tv show called “The End Of The F***ing World” It’s just 8 episodes, 20 (or less) minutes each. It’s about 2 damaged teens running away from home. The cinematography is just beautiful and it’s definitely not a teen show like “13 reasons why”. I think the show did a great job with the characters and the interactions. I totally recommend you to watch this addictive and quite unique show. Hope u see this comment ;)
    Edit: NitPix changed the thumbnail. When i saw it didn’t have any pictures of The End Of The F***ing World and I didnt notice he put the two main characters’s faces in the thumbnail. It would be interesting if he did a review tho.

    • @njdss4
      @njdss4 6 років тому +25

      I watched that show and I mostly liked it. I appreciated how short it was. It never wasted screen time, and the characters felt pretty fully developed despite how short the series is. I definitely recommend it because even if someone doesn't like it, it's so short that it doesn't waste much of your time. My biggest complaint, however, is the ending.
      SPOILERS The "gunshot cut to black" at the end was really cliche. I'm not saying it came out of nowhere, the show definitely built up to it, but it's an overdone cliche nonetheless. Also, I have to admit I'm a bit tired of shows with sad endings. I used to be fine with subverting the stereotypical and unrealistic "everyone lives and is happy" kind of ending, but these days, I feel like there's enough sadness in the world that I could use a bit more happiness in the TV and movies I watch. Just my two cents.

    • @unoriginal4984
      @unoriginal4984 6 років тому +9

      njdss4 Yeah I agree. There’s a season two coming out and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I actually liked the ending. I prefer the comic book ending than the show ending tho. In a way, they couldn’t exactly do a happy ending. The cops were after them and the story had to end some way, not a happy one tho cause in a situation like that, i dont think thats possible.

    God, Dirk Gently is such a quality show. I've watched it a few times through, and even the small things serve to fit with the hollistic atmosphere. I managed to spot (spoilers, I guess? Not really, though) the squeaky toy's eyes change colour occasionally in season 2, and thought I was going crazy until it was explained later in the plot haha
    Good fun to watch, though- planning on forcing some of my friends to watch it with me at some point :)

  • @Disturbed4Life3
    @Disturbed4Life3 6 років тому +2

    After 2 secs of seeing American vandal, I paused the video and binged the entire series in one siting. This series was honestly excellent. You get attached to soany characters and feel for all of them. It never feels obvious who the culprit is (still isn't at the end). It brings up really good questions about a lot of social issues (social media, how our education system fails to cater for difficult children, personal identity and self-image, how we always try to find a definite answer and jump to conclusions and how that can affect people's lives). The show makes you laugh with its ridiculous settings and overall comical characters but there is always a very reason for each plot point and for the development of a very wide cast. Not to mention the acting was actually quite solid. Overall would 100% recommend to anyone who wants to have a laugh while reflecting on some important questions!

    In the hopes that enough people will miss those show and they continue like Dirk Gently's through your videos i have a couple shows i want to see continued or expanded.
    -"Galavant" from 2015 was an amazing two season fantasy comedy musical which was unlike anything i've seen ever. It was really fun to watch and it must had been a pain to make it not only funny but also have musical elements in it!
    -"Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" is a one season series based on a book about 2 wizards helping England win the Napoleonic wars. It's fantastic how well it handles wizards in a non fantasy world and even though i don't remember much about it now I would had loved to see more of it.
    Now i'll go honorable mentions mode because fuck you look on your own if you like these.Also they might not be on netflix.
    "Wrecked "
    "Vice principles"
    "The Wizards of Aus" --
    "The guestbook"
    "The magicians "US version
    "The Orvile" (with the hopes it gets better and becomes the new Star Trek)
    "Son of Zorn"--
    "People of Earth"
    "Penny dreadful"--
    "Preacher"
    "Legion"(the marvel series)
    "Constantine"(again the series)--
    "F is for family"
    "Ash vs the evil dead'(the series once more)--
    -- Means Dead/Ended from what i know
    All those are series I would gladly say have or had something good going on. I hope you make a second video and it includes some of them. With a name like yours I can easily see you going full "watch mojo" you FRAUD!

There's just a few too many people too quick to jump on the stereotypical "oh the book is much better than the movie!!!!!!!!!" trope in these comments, lol, which is how your initial comment kind of comes across as to me, especially when using phrasing like "instead" which holds a totally different meaning than saying "I urge people to watch the British version *as well*".

      I did see an upload of the last season's episode on UA-cam once but that episode wasn't really that good, the one when Dirk revisits his old university professor. The first two seasons are quality TV comedy.
      It is so typical of the BBC. They had a great show and they never even gave it a chance to succeed.

    Well, I've been watching "The Limmy Show" thanks to you. What I find most mindblowing is it's been recommended to me by Netflix and none of the picture captions or even what they had written led me to think the show as such a subversion. I've always liked comedians with a message and he's clearly got one. And he's clever. I don't know what led you to think the guy on the couch is a stoner. Well, if he is a "Stoner" it can't be from weed alone. But on the other hand it also appears to be a lot of apathy. You don't particularly need drugs to end up in that behavior. You just need to exist in a system that helps pay for your house, cable and some food in an area with no means of really financially growing to become an apethic someone just getting through each day to get through the next feeling like you're acheiving nothing but later realizing you've been thinking and observing a lot more than others get to. Which made me laugh because I've been there more times than I'd like to admit. However, every time I've been there I couldn't afford drugs. Food's more important for the most part. But at the same time I was on prescriptions that really messed with me. Now I also have a similar past with addiction and especially love the bit with "Jacki?" and how she says she lost 3 years to heroin and 7 to the methadone clinic. That methadone's pretty much even worse than whatever you might be doing before you get on that, and having a constant dose daily for so long makes your body depend on it and if you thought you knew what withdrawal was like. Get ready, the longer you've been on methadone the harder and longer the withdrawal will be. It's way worse than what I replaced it with, which was given to me by doctors until my chronic pain no longer was a viable reason to get them and at the time I thought I was sick. But honestly, I was fine. Especially to the comparison to when I flipped out at the methadone clinic for wanting me to come more than once a week and so I told them I quit, spent some time in hell and came out feeling clearer and better than I had in a long time. It feels like I lost years to it, but it wasn't too horrible. Only about 4 in all.
    All and all I've been able to kick almost everything but cigarettes. But the pain pills got in deep to a level I convinced myself I wasn't hooked. But my body thought otherwise and it stops helping the pain after like a month, from there it's just about not being sick on top of the pain. Oddly what really motivated me to quit the methadone clinic was learning that opoids inhibit the body's ability to absorb calcium. And one of the first things my counselor talked to me about was his wondering why everybody complains about their teeth going bad. I had a toothache at the time and a healthy fear of dentists to boot. So maybe that was why. But in 2 years I was going there my teeth went from kind of bad to, Holy shit this hurts!!!! And I started wondering about the same thing after a while. He thought it was from the dry mouth and that probably doesn't help. I believe it has more to do with the calcium absorbtion. Either way my teeth were certainly decaying at a rate I've never had to feel before. I'm actually finally getting them fixed, turns out my insurance isn't as accepted as a year ago and with the lack of sleep and eating I've been up to, I found it harder than it should be to find a dentist that not only accepted my insurance, but one that wasn't too far away to make sure I could get there in time. (I lost 3 weeks to waiting for an appointment hours away and I ended up passing out just as I was about to leave and woke up late at night wishing I didn't crash out when I did. But I had been up for 2 days from the pain. I'm still in the pain but I've changed how I think of it. It's more a feeling I'm just feeling now and not this built up pain I've had for years. But thinking that way is also how I managed to get myself through the withdrawal and here I am with every reason to take pain killers and nobody's even offered me any. I'm even going to the very dentist who made me scared of dentists as a kid. Novocain works on me, but only if they inject it in an area that hurts like hell when they poke me or it will just numb my face and I can still feel everything in my teeth. He didn't like that when I was a kid and just stopped using the Novocain all together. It felt about the same, but the guy was pissed. And if there's one thing I've learned about dentists. Never get them angry before they are about to drill your teeth and also never go to a dentist while in jail. I thought I could save some money since I was thrown in there for an unpaid fine. (And I found this funny because I've gone to jail for 2nd degree burglary for going to a party that I left because they started to vandalize stuff, but I didn't name any of them when one of them got in trouble and said I was responsible, I basically have a felony for not turning in more people. But also a (tampering with a motorvehicle charge) for putting super glue into a guy's car ignition who used lies to get at my girlfriend at the time. I spent 90 days in jail for that. Anyway, I was in jail. I thought, they would have to pay for my dental then! So I showed them my bad tooth I wanted fixed and ended up going the very next day. And was treated like complete shit the entire time. I was surprised they made me wear the orange and then they shackled my hands to my waist as well as my feet. I entered the waiting room with the gaurd and there was a mom and her daughter and the Mom called to her daughter which made me think... Gosh, this probably looks like I did more than not pay 300 dollars I didn't have. Anyway, the dentist didn't treat me much better. He even screwed up and as he said "woops" I saw a stream of blood shoot out my mouth across his face. He didn't seem to care about "me" at all, so I was kind of glad to at least be able to squirt him with blood.
    So, all and all. The guy on the couch. I've been through that before and after my dance with opiates. It had more to do with frustration at a system that doesn't seem to want me to be a part of it. Frustration that I can't afford to take my ex-wife to court to hopefully get them to stop garnishing my wages, when I get wages which isn't so much lately because I've realized I can make more by not working plus I'm not supporting my ex-wife and I know how much I'm going to get each month instead of working my ass off to find out I made basically 2 dollars an hour once I get my check. Or 3 at the most, depending on the amount of the check it changes. If I make more they take more, but if I work a certain amount of hours under overtime it's a sweet spot where I get almost 70 percent of my check! But basically minimum wage or 10 dollars more doesn't change my income by much. Sometimes just makes me work harder for less. I managed a gas station as my last job and really had a break down after handing out the paychecks and seeing that I made less than everybody and worked twice as much. Both in all I was doing, and simply the time I was there. That was a 60 plus an hour job and my checks were almost 200. Lets say one a job gets shitty I don't have much reason to stay so I've never had troubles telling bad employers to shove it.
    I hope there's a further episode calling the guy a stoner or him thinking about himself being a stoner because so far he's all about not making assumptions about who someone is by how they look. Because of an awesome movie, I call doing that "Scanning darkly". It's one of the worst things about humanity. It's also in all of us, you can just become more aware of it and just not let your brain do it and everybody starts looking more unique after a while. Keep it up until your concept of beauty crumbles even. But my concept of beauty was forcibly destroyed by someone I thought of as beautiful when I first met her. She did not look beautiful by the time she left with everything I had up until then. Nor was I sad she took everything I had, I was happy she was just gone! But she wasn't really, she's still bothering me. Just not so physically close, which is nice. I don't have to dodge random projectiles she never once admitted to (or ever admitted to any of the things she obviously did. That still gets to me that she could shrug off things she just did so easily and never ever admit to any of it. She's always the victim. She convinced me the guy she was living with was abusive and wanted me to steal all his things, but I didn't even though I thought he deserved it. I'm glad I didn't though, she just uses that story to get guys to help her. It's the same story she told the guy after me who found me to apologize for helping her steal all my things. It was nice hearing him repeat my own story back to me about all that he had been going through and that she never admits to any of it. I'm like.. Yep.. . Death Threats? She didn't start that until 6 months for me. Wow, she's going faster now!
    It's been 15 years, but some day I'll afford to take her to court. It's sad that it costs so much to seek justice. They have all the evidence they need too! They took my DNA when I was in jail. They can use that. I had to put an order for protection against her which was never violated. If her story is true, one of us needs to go to jail for an obvious violation. But the court system doesn't care and won't look unless you pay for the filing fees and charges to get the ball rolling to the point I can finally say "Look at all this shit! How did this even start? What did she say to you guys?!"

    • @lucidexistance1
      @lucidexistance1 6 років тому

      And if anyone says I should seek therapy about her. I've been there, they agree it's all messed up and agree that it's sad that we have to pay literal money to seek justice. And none would help me with the money part. But they would all nod to what I'm saying and reflect back my own words and tell me it will be alright and stuff like that. Or put my faith into something I never was raised to believe, that's the fastest way to make me walk out of a therapists office too. And I'm done with the anti-depressants. Those just seemed to accelerate my own state of apathy I was in. I'm better internally, and the fact I've nothing material to point at to say why I'm happy makes me happier. Hell, my teeth are in horrible shape and I can't even say the agonizing pain I'm in is making me unhappy. It's been giving me hyper focus on almost all I do. Because it's focus or feel. And screw speed, good old fasioned pain keeps me up for days! It's almost like I'm taking Adderall or something, only I'm not. I just hurt way way more than normal and 24/7 until next Monday hopefully. I've been in that damn dentists chair twice in the past 3 weeks, each time I had to coax myself into facting it. And I was there, I was ready! I was even listening to the drills and the people in pain and told myself "I'm next!" Just to end up with them poking things and cleaning them and telling me they are all horrible and even telling me a little of what is going to be done in a little bit. Then to find out I have to make another appointment after I was sitting there ready! This last time I was certain they were going to. I thought they had no more excuses, but nope. Next Monday now. If they don't then, I'm... Crap, they are the only place! I guess they can keep putting me off all they want, I can't drive so I can't really go anywhere else. I hope they don't know that. I'll act like other dentists are bidding on me next time, like I'm some amazing pet project or something. I'll be like "They are willing to sedate me for free!" and then maybe I could just be knocked out when they are pulling out the 3 or more teeth. (3 a couple weeks ago, but the longer I wait the worse they get.) Ah, life's fun. :D
      That's my eventual toothless smile. Not for quite a few years, but someday.

    My favourite joke from Dirk Gently is the fact that the 'Rowdy Three' has four members. This, I think, is completely in line with the humour seen throughout Douglas Adams' work (the man who wrote the Dirk Gently book the show is based on). It's what made me trust that the show understood its source material and would develop, rather than diminish, Adams' genius

      Think genius might be a stretch.
