Very well done! Not only is this a great primer on 4th walls, but a great introduction on how to enjoy Shakespeare.

+sarijjo Thank you, that's very kind :) If you're just starting out in the world of Shakespeare, I hope this helps you get into the plays! And if you're an old pro, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm an old pro, but still love learning new things, or hearing new takes on how to enjoy Shakespeare.

Considering the introduction, greetings from Croatia!
Accidentally stumbled upon this video, and really liked it. I've written a few papers on Early Modern English as well as Shakespeare, and I've now found something new that's pretty interesting.
Really nice video, keep up the good work!

Regarding Shakespeare, I wrote about the original pronunciation.
edit: also, regarding EME, I wrote generally about changes in the context of time, mostly focusing on the Great Vowel Shift

I'm a Shakespearian director and I enjoyed this video and thought it was both accurate and entertaining. The only thing I would add or sort of correct you on, is that it would be very unlikely that an "inexperienced actor," would be making the decision to treat an aside as a soliloquy, as that is a production decision and would, therefore, always be made by the director. Some directors don't like asides as they feel you should never break the 4th wall so that want the asides done as if talking to yourself like inDie Hard for example. I like asides and actually, think they are now very modern as since shows like the office many comedies break the 4th wall as it allows the character to comment directly to the audience what they think of other or what is taking place. Whereas a soliloquy instead allows them to think something through and for the audience to be a party to their private thought processes. Asides are an important part of Kevin Spacey's performance in House of Cards that was originally loosely based on Richard III.

Metasearching the ``Shakespearean aside,'' I'm a 59-y-o female about to leave this channel. I wanted help explaining the term. Screw stats!
