Coding Time-Lapse: Flow Field Experiments

A time-lapse capturing the coding process for a new generative art piece. I started with the concept of tracing the trajectory of particles through a velocity field. As the velocity field changes over time, the particle traces morph in interesting ways.

As a total beginner, how would I go about learning how to make things like this? What programs do I need & what do I need to know? I just want to create trippy visuals. Thanks in advance

However, in an other registre, you could also try to play with some vj software... look on google, there are tons of them... As I'm a Window's user, I use Resolume, but you should try several and keep the one you enjoy the most...
