When I first started getting in to Bonsai a couple years ago, this collection was one of the first I saw photos of and I absolutely fell in love with it. Shohin size is easily my favorite. The big trees are amazing but there something special about holding that tree with one hand.... Thanks for sharing!
"Use common sense and buy what grows in your area". That's the best advice ever. Most of the bonsai shops are actually selling all these kinds of exotic bonsai species which are so hard to grow and take care here in this area (I live in the Prealps area, north of Italy). Best suggestion for people who are starting this hobby is to go outside and see what it naturally grows... here for example maples, apple trees, oaks are the best and they can easily live outdoor for the while year...
Really enjoyed this vid Jason, yours always make me excited to carry on working on my various pre-bonsai. Glad you had a closer look at the blue atlas cedars in this one, my personal favourites

Rocky Mountain juniper is considered shimpaku or no? I’ve read that shimpaku varieties have been expanded to the entire globe. That the term shimpaku refers to compact foliage and not just Japanese varieties.
@@petermacasieb8653 thanks Peter for the reply. Looking for some that will be ok the Raise in Ohio area. And some pre Bonsai trees could work. I just starting into Bonsai trees and was thinking start small. Since your in California raise them would I need to setup a Small Green house? Do you have a Website or my I give my Email or Instagram to see more Shohin at you Garden?
i love shohin, easier to handle, easier to take care of. For me, Shohin embodies the true essence of bonsai.

Hi, what was the name of the tree that he showed how to do the looping of the stem?
It was Itoigawa juniper cuttings and applied lots of twisting while they are growing...
Hello Sir. Does Peter Macasieb sell his Shohin Bonsai? Or can we go though you to buy some?
Yes, I sell them and what kind of shohin bonsai are you looking for?

I'm watching the karate kid and I always wondered about the bonsai trees in that movie. Do they not need dormancy? Being our in California?
What would a 1-2 year Shohin Shimpaku cost, approximately?
Would be great to see more of his collection. You seemed rushed during this video.
OMG that s the master.
Is he Filipino?
Is Peter a Filipino?
Yes … from Malasiqui, Pangasinan Philippines

Hard to put a value but its my retirement you're looking at .... Cheers!!!
