Soul Kiss is on my mp3-player... and this song is one of my favorites... it's hard to face the many sides and facettes of Olivia. But since I love them all...she's so much more than great!
Yeah, a very young Eric on drums, how cool. He's on of my all time fav. drummers, together with Ian Paice of Deep Purple, and Neil Peart ofron Rush ;) . I like his style and also his work on the new album of Kiss, and the Alice Cooper albums he played on.
she was preg in most of the soul kiss vid and if you look closely you could tell specially in the soul kiss vid itself and thats also the reason why she wore those large jackets...love it
Not the most conventional of sounds, but I think this song is the perfect product of the 80's with some drum machine sound and some wonderfully done electric guitars at the same time! "But honey, you gotta know I didn't plan it" .......love it!!
Interview with Eric Singer KF: You mentioned 1985 so I have to stay in that time period for this question. A person who looks like you appears in Olivia Newton-John's "Culture Shock" video. Was that you, and if so, what can you tell us about that gig? ES: Yeah, that's me. Actually that was filmed in 1984. It was recorded at the old Starwood Club in Hollywood. And that was done because I was playing with Lita Ford at the time. I'll give you a couple of fun tidbits. Olivia Newton-John was pregnant at the time so that's why you never see a lot of good body shots and her clothes are kind of looser. She was like five or six months pregnant during the taping of that. And her nephew played bass in the video, I remember he was Australian and he told me he was her nephew. And I was just hired to be in the video and the way it happened was, David Mallet -- I think he did some stuff with KISS actually... KF: Yes, he did "Tears Are Falling" and some stuff with Def Leppard. ES: Yeah, he did a lot of big video stuff back then. He had done a couple of Lita Ford videos and when he went to do the video they wanted to use a more rock-looking band for Olivia Newton-John's video. So he called up one of the guys in Lita's band and said, "Hey, I want to use the band guys for this video." Well, I had done Lita's videos. Randy Castillo was the drummer before me in Lita Ford. The other two guys, Gordon Copley and Bobby Donati, were also in Lita's band. And I think David Mallet called Gordon, the bass player, and said he wanted to use us for Olivia's video. So Gordon called me up and that's how I got hired. I was always spinning the sticks a lot. So I remember David Mallet saying, "Let's get some shots of the drummer because he's doing that cool stick thin
Taking the UA-cam ONJ deep-dive. Enjoying hearing a few songs I've never heard before. This is nice ONJ. Edgy lyrics for the time. I'd take half of her. (haha)
This is when ONJ started to buy into the 80's big hair, over-done excessive look. It's a shame because she blew the doors off any woman of her time without a drop of makeup. She seriously could wear a burlap sack and still win a beauty AND talent contest. Damn.
is this song what i think its about?? when i was a young girl i thought it was about a little boy and her man. now as an adult it i believe its about 2 men she loves and cant decide i need to read the lyrics..still love this song though.
Soul Kiss was Olivia's best and most experimental album. I wished Olivia would have pushed more edgier albums afterwards. She only went backwards. Culture Shock has that 80's horror Halloween, Friday 13th sound to it.
It was her attempt to compete with the new generation of singers like Madonna. Trouble is Madonna was a whole generation younger and Sheena Easton beat her to it and was able to pull it off, while ONJ could not.
@@waiter1971 Promotion was mainly the problem. She was pregnant at the time and was unavailable to push it with appearances. I think she should have drafted Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis as originally planned( producers of Janet Jackson) after Soul Kiss album. David Foster gave her an edgier sound too. Oh well all the possibilities were out there for a comeback and Olivia went soft on us after The Rumour album
@@markxxx21 Overall, the material on SK was not as strong as "Physical", plus, Olivia was being pushed in a direction that was not really her. So in a way, I'm glad she could not "pull it off" as you say. Olivia went on to make the music that she really wanted to do. Olivia's next album "The Rumour" was much stronger than SK and, it was obvious Olivia was finding herself again, and I love that. Her albums "Gaia" and "Grace and Gratitude" are not for the charts, they are for the soul. I've been listening to Olivia non-stop this past year. Long Live Livvy xoxo.
Does any one know which other bands music video does Eric Singer appear on besides this ONJ, Black Sabbath, Badlands, Alice Cooper & KISS, did he appear in any other artists music video that anyone might know of? Please let me know, Thanks!
That's current KISS Catman Eric Singer on the drums (there are two drummers; he's the one with the long hair and checkerboard shirt.) He's most visible around the 2:16 mark.
Bob Cummings The Rumor was her last 80s album actually. Good album too. The Rumor and Love and Let Live are awesome. Then came I Need Love which is even better.
This video looks more like 1981 where they threw some stuff in front of a camcorder. A sophisticated theatrical look was common by 1985. Duran Duran, Eurythmics.
Interesting. My mum and I were watching this collection the other night, and noticing how strange some of the wardrobe choices were. That explains it! (Could her shoulders look any bigger in this vid?!)
I don't remember it all, as it has been so long ago. In 1984 she lived with her future husband Matt Lattanzi and a close female friend. Which started a lot of rumors.
who was the close female friend because I never heard this - later when Chloe was there she had a nanny named Cindy Jessup that Matt brought in that HE had an affair with and later married
@@Kira7London-Spencer This was before Olivia was married. Her name was Chantal Contouri. I haven't found the actual article that I read years ago, because I didn't save it. I saved the Star Magazine 12/18/1984 article about her wedding and that was the lady's name. Chantal Contouri is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Just that alone creates chatter. By the year 2000, I learned over half of the rumors that I've heard about Olivia are not true. Example: People use to say that Olivia was married to Elton John. That is why her last name is Newton-John. People use to say that MCA started the "Olivia Records" label just for her. That is not true either. Olivia should write a book about all the untrue things that have been said about her.
ah, the 80s, an era when the pop song and the metal "look" were married...and if they are going to put a "metal" looking band in the video, there has to be more guitar than just a tiny solo (and more crunch)...olivia looks great though...
huh? Sorry but the Stevie Nicks comparison doesn't hold water. Stevie has had her signature look since the 1970's and still has it. I LOVE OLIVIA. But Stevie Nicks has her own genre and always has.
This song seems so out of line with Newton John's persona. Maybe with a sense of humour or irony it would have worked. But it is performed in earnest and we don't buy it. Very definitely a low point in ONJ's catalogue.
I remember when this came out.. there was talk that the Physical controversy helped it sales, and they really pushed it with her SoulKiss effort... it seem so forced, it failed..I didn't care for it..Why can the 3 of live together...? Really?
This song has such a unique sound! So great to hear it again after 30 years.
Well, not so unique. It was very common in the high tech AOR records. But nonetheless a masterpiece
Boy does she ever rock that 80s look. Love the shoulder pads
Great song. Should have been a huge hit. So 80s with great vocal
Seriously. I love this song! And Soul Kiss has always been one of my favourite Olivia albums! +1
I love this song. Soul Kiss has always been one of my favourite Olivia albums!
Olivia newton jhonn una bella bionda sexy e esplosiva✨
Soul Kiss is on my mp3-player... and this song is one of my favorites... it's hard to face the many sides and facettes of Olivia. But since I love them all...she's so much more than great!
RIP Olivia ❤️ As an Aussie, we will always remember you. As a super star, we will never forget you.
WOW, Olivia with 80s hair!!!! Awesome!!
Soul Kiss did not get the recognition it deserved. Love ONJ!
The Soul Kiss Album is so Glamorous
I Love this Album
Love this song and the album. Still one of my best memory of 1985

Nice to see there are other Ian Paice fans out there, VERY underrated drummer!
she was so ahead of her time... stunning
she was preg in most of the soul kiss vid and if you look closely you could tell specially in the soul kiss vid itself and thats also the reason why she wore those large jackets...love it
One of Olivias best looks here. She looks like a rock star.
she looks like Donna Mills...LOVE the hair!
My favorite pro-polyandry anthem!
Soul Kiss is ONJ's best album at least for me. Culture Shock should have a single with a hot dance remix.
Wow, look at Eric Singer (KISS, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath) back there on drums!!
I never would've guessed!!
YAHOO!!! Olivia and 80s Big Hair!!!! Best combo ever!!!
Eric Singer 💗
Cant believe shes gone..

I love the "Soul Kiss" album.
Rest in peace beautiful Olivia.
magical sound from an amazing era
Love this song. Brilliant.

Love this album

This song is really great, should be an 80´s Icon along with genesis´s mama and Lura branigan´s satisfaction...
I really enjoy playing this album in my car. One of her best.
I think it is great. Nice beats and sexy lyrics.
EXCELLENT TRACK FROM SOUL KISS.
2019?
Nadčasová krásná písnička 👍🖐🇨🇿
Ironic that "Soul KISS" features a drummer named Eric Singer that would become a member of the iconic band KISS
Lets not forget ONJ stole Andy Timmons off Danger Danger
Eric Singer only shot the video, he did not play in the actual record.
SOOOOOO 80's Love it
A great song from what was far and away my favorite of her albums. Sexy and eclectic. Ahead of its time.
"If I could go back and undo it
If I had a time machine
I'd make it unhappen like a bad dream"

This video and song are totally awesome. OLIVIA is totally hot............
I think she looks great too! This was the look she sported on the cover of the Toughen Up single sleeve.

Ha! Eric Singer's hairstyle! :D
It's exactly that; being in love with 2 persons at the same time. I know the feeling a little to well,
Who is the drummer. I hear it is eric singer from kiss
This should've been bigger.
Although she did have even BIGGER hair in the mid-to-late 80s. Check out the videos for "Talk To Me", "I Can't Wait", and "Rooms On Fire"....
Recognize the drummer? That's Eric Signer from Kiss :)
Haha you can REALLY hear her Aussie accent when she speaks during the song. Hilarious! Cute! lol
Actually groundbreaking
2020?
so right she was quiet with it for the time
why was SOUL KISS her last lp of the 80's?? What happened??
Bob Cummings The Rumor was her last 80s album actually. Good album too. The Rumor and Love and Let Live are awesome. Then came I Need Love which is even better.

I had no idea Eric Singer played with Olivia Newton-John.
JasonDavisVoice Eric played with Lita Ford in 1985, then she recommended him to Olivia, who needed a drummer for filming that video...
He just did the video, but STILL isn’t that awesome !!

Wow, Eric Singer looked pretty cute as a blonde 😳
Tori Spelling?
wow, she looks like Morgan Fairchild! lol
11 years later I see th it a comment 😆😆😆😆are you still alive???🤔
Totally sexy and hot ONJ's song!
tHIS SONG HAS THE SAME THEME AS David Crosbys song Triad he wrote for the byrds in 1967
Pru and me love livvy
@patmc82 Seeing as Tori Spelling would've been about 12 when the video was filmed, I think we can safely say no, it's not her.
Yes, I was replying to a previous comment about Stevie Nicks....
maybe is right, but this song is great

I don't think that is Tori Spelling. I'm almost 99% sure that is Carol Burnett's daughter. It's most likely Carrie Hamilton.
Could be Olivia's late sister Rona?
OMG Tori Spelling at 1.07
NO! Tori was 12 in 1985 I bet its a stunt double LOL
LOL yeah
Can it be Tori? Let me watch it again. Just did, can't tell, kinda looks like her that's for sure
Eric singer on drums
@aceraison Bahaha agreed. Is it about threesomes or a love triangle or something? That's all I can get from it. Really not an Olivia song.
tori would have to be in her late 40's if that were her

she was pregnant in this video
She looks a bit like Morgan Fairchild here!
She was NEVER a Culture Shock to me! LOL!
that's why it's darker...
she was pregnant with Chloe here...****!!!!!!
So who knew this song? More importantly, who knew this song was about her wanting a poly relationship with two men??
hmm...I like the video and the clothes better than the song lol.
Debbie Gibson copied this same hairdo with the release of her 'Out of the Blue' debut album.
