How is this accurate? Its just lots of wheelspin with a very short drag strip. In addition its not very convincing that the difference would be as little as 0.085 seconds..

No, you shift when it is no longer beneficial to be at high rpm. If you notice you still accelerate when redlining. It's basically wheelspin. Hold it until you dont get speed, then shift. Something you have to get used to.
yeah, but its a game, if i would have shifted as soon as i hit redline then the rpms would have been at 2k and the drag time would have been 2x-3x longer

i dont think thats how you shift you need to shift when it hits red
