- Birkebeinerrennet is a long-distance cross-country ski marathon held annually in Norway. It debuted in 1932 and has been a part of Worldloppet as long as Worldloppet has been around. In 2016 I completed my third Birkebeinnerrennet. This part of my experience.
Reminds me of winter in Ontario. 54 km -- that's impressive. Well done.
Hey Saul. I see you're enjoying retirement. Good for you. I bumped into you and your cohort at the Czech Jizerska 50. I showed up at the Birkebeiner in 2015, the year it was cancelled half-an hour before the start due to hugh winds. So we skied to the first feed station like a lot of other people, then turned around and went back. Yes, it was a little cold. But we had good sking for the rest of the week between Sjusjoen and Lillehammer.
Hey Tomas. Great to hear from you. Hope we meet again on the trail. All the best.
Praise be all the gods on Mt. Olympus. May we still have cold winters on this side of the Atlantic. The winters have been too warm the last few years. Oh how we pines for Carolinian and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence hardwood forests.
Looking forward to this in one month's time. I have the same poles!
Enjoy!
You had good luck with the weather! So that is what the trail looks like :-) When I skied Birken in 1995, visibilty was about 100 m in fog and snow. ALL WHITE
Still it was much easier than CSM in 1989 (bronze class
Courer de bois- 165 km in 2 days)
Thank you. I did have good weather. I have also skied the CSM Bronze a couple of time. You are very tough to have completed it as well. Happy skiing!
