    The 2000s were such a toxic time. I think about how insecure I was back then and how much internalized misogyny I had, and it makes me feel better to hear you talk about it too. Now I'm a proud introvert and that doesn't make me a bad person!

      So this is going to sound odd.... but, I wanted to thank you. I've never seen anybody say they are a PROUD introvert. So often people categorize introverts as weird and strange. So it was really nice to see somebody say they are a PROUD introvert. 💜💙💛

    Just because someone buys you something doesn't mean they can't be abusive. Thanks for showing this to girls who are watching. Just because a man is nice to you sometimes doesn't mean the other times aren't toxic.

    The 3 of you ladies gave new life to Playboy for a few years. I'm female and I actually subscribed to Playboy for 2 years because I loved you all. • @hankypanda
      @hankypanda 3 роки тому +13

      I agree... i feel like society hates women because of this. If you really love women you’d want to get to know them, hear their stories in great detail, and see them in different situations, but people who hate women think that a worthy “hot” woman is just in the background “being hot” and nothing else. I heard a problematic rock star describe his fans as such, the ones who actually were hardcore fans of the band and music, moshing in the front and knowing every lyric weren’t as sexy as the “hot girls in the back who just hang out looking hot” and that’s the type of woman they’d rather hook up with ugh
      So look hot, have no interests, fade into the background except for your hotness. I don’t even think non human hominids were as shallow selecting mates and shit.

    • @Ellisif333
      @Ellisif333 3 роки тому +4

      @@hankypanda Honestly it's not just men. Women get very angry and snobby when they think another woman is beautiful. If you happen to be born in a time and location when/where what you look like just happens to be considered beautiful, you are villainized, demeaned, and condescended to by other women.

    • @Ellisif333
      @Ellisif333 3 роки тому +5

      That's why you see so many models apologizing for their "privilege". It's sick. They shouldn't have to apologize for what they look like.

    • @hankypanda
      @hankypanda 3 роки тому

      @@Ellisif333 for sure, “the feminine gaze” is just as toxic and rooted in problematic ideals as well. there’s that preference for women to still not tell their story as if they just dropped down from the heavens as this “pure humble nurturing angel” instead of a whole human who grew into a full being including someone who has a sexual identity and a “loud” side, too. either way women shouldn’t have to worry about how they look to society and be free to be themselves and be involved. society’s preference for them to be in the background as either hot or “pure” without any curiosity about them other than how hot or pure they are is disgusting.

    This series is fascinating! I remember watching this show when I was probably in my late 20s. I definitely watched it because I thought the dynamic of Heff's "girlfriends" was so weird. While probably a good portion of the audience watched it as if it was a cartoon and that everybody was happy, many of us were paying attention and we could see how uncomfortable and how forced some of the situations were. I definitely remember you & the other women in a positive light however, so do not feel bad that you thought you were representing something that nobody was picking up on. It was there and we could see it. The people who are giving you backlash for your book want to believe in a fantasy. It's definitely OK to own your reality and promote the idea of taking a critical look at whatever situation you have to be in. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to watch the rest of these videos and the upcoming series based on your book.

    I wondered about Hef’s reaction at the restaurant. That was my first clue how self centered and uncaring he was about other people. There were a lot of people there ahead of him And he just wanted all his needs met no matter that anyone else had to wait. It’s an uncomfortable scene to watch, I can’t imagine how bad it was to be there

    I’m glad you’re doing this. I think most people didn’t realize how bad it was back then because it was a very young audience. I used to watch and love this show and I was in my early teens. I used to argue with my mom who used to tell me how miserable you girls probably really were and I’m like no way mom, they are living a dream life. I was so naive and gullible. When your book came out, my mom bought it for me and after I read it, I felt so bad for you girls. I rewatched the episodes here on UA-cam and was able to see so much of the obvious, as an adult.

    Holly I gotta tell you that I’m really enjoying your commentary on the GND episodes. It’s honestly priceless because it’s from your point of view and there’s no way they would’ve included this raw honesty on the show. Like you said yourself, everyone will form their own opinion about what they saw on the show and each of y’all’s individual interviews, but you yourself lived this life and the rest of us are just an audience to what they wanted us to see. I know there was thousands of hours filmed but only minutes of it was shown after it was most likely heavily edited to make it look cute and like a perfect world. Keep telling us your truth because it looks like we’re all enjoying rewatching this show with you and knowing your honest opinion about everything you are seeing again. Thanks Holly!

    I felt sad when they showed Brigette in episode 2. I could feel her sadness of the reality of her situation. She had always dreamed of becoming a playmate but her photos were turned down. Brigitte has the most beautiful personality and is a sweetheart. So I felt sad. I think she always felt she was going to miss her opportunity because she was getting older(I think she was in her early 30's toward the end of the show). And seeing younger women testing and becoming a playmate did not help. But in the end her dream did come true!

Like many viewers of your UA-cam channel, I watched GND when I was younger and absolutely adored it. It never occurred to me to think about any of the personal costs or the complex interpersonal dynamics that you all experienced in the mansion, at least until I read your book. 18:00 KNOW THYSELF!!! Girl! I would love to chat with you about my perspective of this show. I will NEVER forget the "know thyself" part. I still say "know thyself" in that context.

    Love that your telling your story❤ me and my bestie she and I were addicting to your show loved it so much. But as a person who has been in 2 narcissistic relationships it is now easy to spot the love bombing and triangulation used. I still love the show but I am happy you and Bridgette are telling your story (just started ur podcast and binged listened to it) and now found this.
    Can’t wait for new podcast episodes love you and Bridgette together, you ladies are so lovely. Ty for sharing and for making the 2000’s fun despite the drama behind doors you were a gem to watch Holly ❤

    I bought all the seasons of girl next door on DVD and was OBSESSED with this show watching religiously. Being in my 20’s at the time this was popular, I was definitely sucked into thinking how glamorous and amazing the “lifestyle” was and as I grew older and read your book 📖 and By then I was mature enough to realise that world was a facade for the show and I really loved reading down the rabbit hole. I haven’t watched the series since, so watching your reaction to the show is so interesting and it makes me want to watch back each episode to analyse for myself. I shake my head now how I looked up to that kind of life. I admire your strength for coming clean about what it was REALLY like and your experience. Thanks so much Holly. You’re absolutely gorgeous by the way. #AussieFan 🇦🇺

    I LOVED the show i still rewatch my box set dvd of it ALL THE TIME . Love you so much Holly ! anyhow.. I always noticed how being in the magazine was held over your heads, or saying. " Im just a gf..." it very much at the time seemed to me he kept it hanging above your heads as something as a maybe someday...as long as you stick around WAITING for years and feeling bad enough about it... and when you DID all get to be in the magazine i was like WOW WTF- i mean i def think you deserved it and the photos turned out SO BEAUTIFUL and you all looked so stunning...but it definitely seemed like an upper hand control move....

    Yes, you 3 girls saw other women come in and him girl them the cover and centerfolds but he gave you 3 a TELEVISION SHOW, that's how awesome you girls were as individuals all on your own. After you 3 left I quit watching and plenty of women had come through Playboy doors or aspired to be apart of Playboy but you 3 will be forever hard to forget. I'm watching you on youtube because of it in 2021. You women have worked hard for your successes and continue to succeed.

    Holly I am so thankful that you are doing this. I used to watch the show all the time with my mom and wanted to be a playmate so bad. Now looking back and watching the show I can see where it was sometimes abusive and toxic. Thank you for doing these types of videos to show all of us that it wasn’t always so glamorous at the mansion.

    Girl, you literally look the same lmfao haven't aged a day. Thanks for doing this though. I remember being a young teen watching the show and always thinking y'all were so cool and fun and glamorous and that must be what adulthood is really all about 🤭😂🤣💀 sheeeesh! how we've all grown and our minds change...I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must've actually been. How weird and awkward. Dark and lonely. I'm definitely not built for that life. Hugs to you.🖤💚🖤

    So like almost everyone else…I just finished binging GND and I ironically had the same feelings as I did when initially watching early 2000s. I thought the energy was strange between everyone. I thought the entire concept was strange, really. But I will say, I enjoyed you on the show. Especially the 2nd time around, you had a light about you that I felt was dimmed or stifled. Love you’re doing this ✨

    I love love LOVE this little series you’re doing with re-watching the show! It’s so cool seeing you discuss the real and the staged and diving into how living there really was, both the good and bad.
    I was definitely WAY too young to watch the show when I discovered it lol, but I grew up watching you three and rewatching the seasons now as an adult is so nostalgic.
    I have yet to read your books but this is super cool too ❤️ love you holly!

    I’m so happy you’re doing this. I was in the 6th grade when the show was first airing and my mom and I loved it. I even got the DVDs and watched the episodes with the commentaries. I vividly remember Bridget saying she was forced to lay down in bed in a full face of makeup and pretend to go to sleep. 😂
    The show was such a comfort show for me oddly, it’s the only way to explain it. I’d watch every new episode with my mom. I was basically a preteen and my life was nothing like you guys’ but I just really admired you and Bridget and even then I think i could tell something wasn’t quite right behind the scenes. I stopped watching after the three of you left because it just wasn’t the same. I’m really glad you’ve been able to speak out about your truth and I just ordered Down The Rabbit Hole.

    Thank you for doing these reaction videos. The bts details are truly fascinating. One thing I find so interesting is how different you sound now. Your voice on the show always sounded forced into that high pitched baby timbre - which after reading your book, and watching these videos I know it was. Kudos to you for moving on and becoming stronger as a result. You & Bridget were the backbone of that show, and are truly role models. 👍
