Hey Ryan, there are common best practices in guitar, for example, down strokes being on the 1 2 3 4, but there is a tonal difference between a down stroke and up stroke: one being that down strokes sound more punchy than an upstroke. So while there are common best practices on Guitar, there are no definitive rules stating that things "always" have to be done a certain way..in one sense, playing things different ways allows more flexibility to the player. So..long story short, those down strokes can be played on the "ands" in this song to give it a punchier sound but if you are happier to play upstrokes because thats what you've always done, then thats cool too. Hope this helps.
Can you do a tutorial on neon? I’m stuck on the final two chord shapes because I don’t have those thumbs, and when I try a different way it screws up the rhythm of the song for me while I play it
Hey Josh, A Neon tutorial would certainly be cool! I know with where my playing is currently at it'd take a while to get Neon up to speed and then a while longer to create tutorial graphics/content..if you'd like a quicker reply feel free to send me a video of yourself playing it via messenger on my FB page m.me/davedguitar - I can point out exactly the bar or two you need to work on then and offer tab & finger workaround solutions for those parts :)
What was your biggest takeaway from this lesson or is there any problem area in it you need help with? Pop a comment below!:)
Both, electric and acoustic
both! love this, you're good
Yea I go through phases, looking forward to hearing the sound his next album takes! Thanks :)
More Acoustic songs please 😍
On the way :)
Electric
I prefer both but for playing i prefer the acoustic ones. Great lesson, you just earned a sub :)
In your video you say the strumming pattern is d du udu which I believe is correct. The picture in the video says d du dud.
Well Spotted Peter! Thanks for your comment - I did not notice that on the graphic, it is actually d du udu, I'll update that in the description :)
Acoustic... please
Acoustic
Would love to learn Neon!!
Electric and some times acoustic
What he did to mix them all on "Where the Light is" was pretty cool!
gotta say john mayer electric
I woulda loved to have been there the first time he broke out the electric in the middle of a set!
Mayer acoustic song.
Yea, he has so many cool ones!
Since when is an and or + a down stroke. It isn't. Down strokes are 1 2 3 4 while the up stroke is always in the ands or (+)
