I didn't really mind the Nelvana dub. I think the voices matched the characters quite well. But the choices in dialogue and editing was awful

Thank you! I get that everyone has nostalgia for the Nelvana dub, but the voices only fit the new characterizations, and not the original Japanese characters. Sekora Avalon and Sakura Kinomoto are two completely different characters
Nelvada dub and the Funiamation Clear Card dub are good.

I’m going to get a lot of hate for this but best to worst… #1 best: madhouse, bc, all of the voices are funny and have a personality to it,I mean, except for tomoyo, her voice changes every three seconds… #2great: pioneer Tomoyo voices is literally so good in this one, that’s why I’m putting it here just cause of that!!! #3meh: Funnimation clear card: Okay so most of the boy voices are so cursed and it’s kind of sad bc syaoran is my favorite character ever and a part I love abt him is his voice in the madhouse dub, but like Yukito and keros voice and others, they sound deeper and fake. The girls do sound more mature and not too different, but meiling is very different but I’m okay with that, it’s not too major. ………😓😥😰 This is what ima get hate for… #4HORRIBLE… Nelvana… I know a lot of you grew up with this one and say "this is the best one" but I strongly disagree on that. This sounds wayyyyy off. The characters sound so American and no offense, but, the fact that this is a Japanese anime with them living in Japan sounds weird. Some people may not agree with me but every other dub sounds slightly like there actually from Asia… In this one, Sakura sounds like a spoiled brat with anger issues. Her voice is sooooo loud and obnoxious! And what’s with the name changes like: Tomoyo, to, Maddison, Touya, to, Tori, and others!? Once again, the names sound AMERICAN!!
This is my favorite anime and I can’t stand to see the voices being butchered up with the Nelvana dub!

I grew up with the American version of cardcaptor South American version is the one I like the best
I remember watching the original Cardcaptors back in 2002 and I did started to like this series from Nelvana I just wished it's finally released onto SDBD Blu-Ray at last just like Beyblade, Shaman King, Sonic X, Dinosaur King, Saber Riders and the Star Sheriff and Ultimate Muscle. Because I prefer the Nelvana characters voices alot better than the version from animax dud.

The nelvana dub is my favorite dub version of the anime, i grew up watching it and i still love the carcaptors dub too. Sakura actually sounded more like a 10 year old girl. The pioneer dub of the movie cardcaptor sakura was also good. The funimation dub of the clear card arc was great too. The animax dub version of cardcaptor sakura is my least favorite dub. Sakura just sounded so whiny most of the time and it was just annoying to be honest.
I'm only here to say Cardcaptors' Carly was, and still is, the best English Sakura. A shame she couldn't come back for Clear Card. The other Sakuras are all so strained and unnatural. I get that they're trying to match the pitch of the Japanese Sakura, but it just doesn't work in English.
I grew up with Animax and this version will always be my favorite! It's hard to beat nostalgia.
This is backwards.
The animax dub is the best, but that's only because the others were butchered in various areas.
The Pioneer dub changes characters' names and catchphrases from the source material.
Funimation decided to reuse the VA's from Tsubasa even if the Cardcaptor character's voices did not match, leading to various vocal inconsistencies (such as Syaoran having a high pitches soft voice that differs feom his gruff one)
And let's not forget how butchered the Cardcaptors version is. Missing content, stilted acting, cheesy rewritten dialogue, edited scenes, it's just not how the show is meant to be experienced.
Animax has its own issues, such as the awkward line reads, but it does it's best to be closer to the source material than any of the other dubs.
Not to mention they dubbed the entire series, unlike Nelvana, Pioneer, or even Funimation.
Pioneer didn't make any changes when dubbing the second movie. They're also the only ones to directly translate Sakura's spells, and are the only ones who could manage to pronounce Clow correctly. Animax changed several bits of dialogue, and also removed all homosexuality from the series. They strait up cut the parts of Syaoran talking about his feelings for Yukito, as well as the part where Yue confronts him about it. CrunchyRoll had to add those parts back in with subtitles when they released it online.
@@MatsuyoRific This is actually not true. I have no idea what NIS did with the series, but speaking from first hand experience, the original TV broadcast of the Animax dub did have all the Syaoran-Yukito bits intact, dubbed. You might be able to find the TV rips around if you look hard enough. This show was what first exposed me to the prospect of same-sex love, and back in 2004 at that.

Here Are My Thoughts On Sakura Kinomoto's Voice In 3 Different Dubs:
Japanese Dub: Perfect!
NELVANA English Dub: Awful!
Animax English Dub: Good.

Okay when you look past the Nostalgia, Cardcaptors' VA is just awful. It's super flat and lacks Sakura's proper personality or any personality really.
Unless you consider "bratty" to be a personality.
I’ll be honest I like the nelvana one more, admittedly I grew up on it but compared to the other dubs the voice sounds better at emoting where the others just sounded flat or A tone. As for the funimation dub……..I think it’s the second worst. I’ll be real Monica rials performance sound exactly similar to a lot of her other roles and it’s not that distinguishable from them either.
The animal dub was the best the other English dub makes everyone sound too old for their age doesn’t go their personalities

The reason I rank mandhouse so low is because of the acting itself. Often times the afflictions don't match the tone of the scene, and they pronounce so many names wrong. Sakura especially sounds really whiny in just about every scene. A big part of it is that the actress spends so much effort trying to match the Japanese voice, that there's no focus on the actual acting.

Nelvana Dub was the best one. I grew up on that one, and it will always be superior to all the others. The other ones just make all the characters sound like little babies and it's annoying.
She sounds like a brat on that one though...
Original isn't faithful and sounds way to american (to satisfy american audiences) the new one is more faithful

Those dubs were so bad! Why did they have to pronounce her name as SaKURa? It's nice to see the improvements over time.
It was hard to choose between Pioneer and Funmation, but Monica just inched ahead with all the emotion she brings to the roll

@@Sakurakinomotoz633 In the nine months since I posted the comment, my opinion on who played Sakura the best has changed. After checking out the Nelvana dub of Cardcaptors as well as the Bang Zoom dub of the second movie, I can safely say that Carly McKillip and Kari Wahlgren did a better job on the role.
The nelvana dub's problem wasn't sakura. IT WAS KERO, i mean listen to how annoying his voice is.
Nelvana Kero's voice was bad, but it's also not the worst. No, that dishonor goes to Tsubasa Kero. It's the one episode I refuse to ever watch in English.
I instantly prefer the OG Cardcaptors dub alone because they got a kid that sounds like one to voice Sakura and Li. I'm mixed on Maddie/Tomoyos voice but its way better than just giving her a very soft monotone. Also love Kero's voice far more here too.
